Changes to Tesco slots?

ExhaustedFlamingo · 03/05/2020 22:13

Family of four, been shielding due to pre-existing health issues (me), and been managing to grab click and collect slots - with a great deal of effort.

I think the supermarkets have done amazingly well increasing capacity, and if I'm not lucky enough to get a slot, I understand. There's so many of us trying, I don't blame the supermarket at all if I'm not successful.

But here's the thing. Talking to my mum yesterday over Skype - she is a pre-existing delivery saver customer, which may be relevant. I could only see slots up to 22nd May - everything taken for click and collect, and delivery (we haven't taken any delivery slots because we can manage click and collect). Anyway, she could see slots up to 29th May!!

She is local to me and we were comparing slots for the same branch. She's basically able to see slots a week ahead of me. I've refreshed/reloaded etc and I'm a week behind her. Does anyone know the reason for this? Are Tesco giving preferential booking to those who were existing delivery saver customers?

With a huge amount of effort, I'd been able to get click and collect slots but for the past fortnight or so, there's been absolutely nothing. I'm wondering if Tesco have changed their philosophy and are now giving delivery saver customers advance booking? It's the only thing I can think of to explain the difference.

I've got absolutely no problem at all not being able to get a slot if we're all trying at the same time. It's hard for everyone and we can't magic up more slots. But if Tesco ARE offering advance booking to their delivery saver customers, then there's basically no chance for the rest of us. Mum said for the week ahead - which I can't even see yet - there was only one slot left for the Friday and that was the last day on what she could see. So, in other words, when it gets released to the rest of us, no bloody wonder there's nothing left because they've already been taken! Aaargh!

I'm making sweeping assumptions here as mum isn't on any kind of list so that's the only reason I can think of.

I have managed to get slots for click and collect with Asda - did our first one today. Tons of stuff substituted or out of stock and not substituted - don't normally have the same problem with Tesco other than the odd thing here or there. I've got two autistic children, one with quite profound difficulties, and while they eat quite a reasonably healthy diet, they've very rigid. Not being able to get certain things is a real headache - substitutions don't work. Deep sigh.

I really don't want to sound like an entitled brat, and with so many people ill and dying, I realise that this is minor. But has anyone else noticed this or does my mum have access to some magical Tesco portal that's blocked to us mere mortals?

First post so please don't slay me for sounding like a whiny cowbag.

Ours seems really random, I’ve looked a few times today on click and collect and delivery and there has been nothing, just checked again thanks to this thread and managed to get a click and collect for next week (thanks!) I guess it’s just a case of keep on checking.

Naithnira · 03/05/2020 22:50

Yes, delivery saver customers can see an extra week ahead. I can see up to 30th May. Apparently the customers identified as vulnerable can also see four weeks ahead. Everyone else can only see three weeks ahead. The change was implemented about a fortnight ago.

Rose789 · 03/05/2020 22:50

That must be so frustrating. Could you sign in to your mums account. I have a weekly recurring slot with asda but I’m sharing that with my friend. So one week I get a delivery to mine the next week she signs in and gets a delivery to hers.
Every time she has tried to get a delivery slot there has been nothing available so sharing deliveries is a pain but it’s working.

MamaGothel · 03/05/2020 22:52

Not sure about Tesco but my mum (who lives just around the corner from me) has a Morrisons pass and she can get shopping slots that I can't. As in, if we log onto the website at the same time she can see dozens of available slots and I have zero availability for the same dates. I actually only stopped my Tesco delivery pass late last year and I feel gutted about it now!

Sharpkat · 03/05/2020 22:52

I can see up to May 30th and pay for a delivery pass but have been unable to get a delivery at all since March 21st. Have stayed up until midnight several times but they are gone in 30 seconds. Not sure what I am paying for right now as my nearest Tesco is 3.7 miles away and I don't drive.

RedRiverShore · 03/05/2020 22:53

I always book Tuesday now as I daren't leave it to my usual Thursday slot that I used to have in case I don’t get one, every days the same now though so it doesn’t really matter

PinkiOcelot · 03/05/2020 22:53

I’ve had delivery saver for years. I can see 3 weeks ahead but still can’t get a slot.

RedRiverShore · 03/05/2020 22:55

It does vary though as it depends on your local store so everyone will see different ones

Notenoughchocolateomg · 03/05/2020 22:56

I have the saver delivery pass and can see up to the 30th may atm.

Headbangersandmash · 03/05/2020 22:56

I've just realised what date it is.
Delivery pass people can see 4 weeks vs everybody else seeing 3 weeks. I think it used to be 3 weeks and 2 weeks but possibly just at Xmas and Easter?

I have 3 deliveries booked and the third one is coming on the 29th May so I can see 4 weeks ahead too

Orangeteddy · 03/05/2020 22:58

I’m on delivery saver and yes, we can see a week ahead. I’m already booked right up every week till the end of May and will book a start of June slot over the next couple of days. This changed a couple of weeks ago when it moved from 3 weeks out to 4 for delivery pass holders.

However I don’t think they release 100% of the slots 4 weeks out. I think they hold some for those on the government vulnerable list, release some for delivery pass holders then some more the following week for everyone else.

savehalloween · 03/05/2020 23:02

In our area there have been no click and collect at all and as much chance getting delivery as winning the lottery. Totally fine. I know they're prioritising those who need it so we've not hunted one down.

But this week they made click and collect available and I could take my pick of the week's slots. I thought it was a mistake but others commented on having the same thing. So guessing they've increased capacity a lot and are trying to offer click and collect slots (in our area at least) to the wider customer base.

lyralalala · 03/05/2020 23:04

They don't release all of the slots to Delivery Saver customers.

Also SIL and I don't think it's the same at all stores as she still can't see the extra week despite being a Delivery Saver. The store she gets deliveries from has had major issues trying to cope with demand

jakeyboy1 · 03/05/2020 23:06

I'm a delivery saver customer who's managed to get naff all off them.

Noideaatall2020 · 03/05/2020 23:18

I have the delivery saver and can see up to the 29th.
I expect it depends what area you are in, but sometimes slots appear for random times and days - perhaps these are from people getting slots and cancelling.
We have also been able to get a click and collect for the next day by logging on about 5.50pm. They have full availability but you have to be quick.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/05/2020 23:33

What is a delivery saver ?
I am in a vulnerable category, but have no shielding letter.

RainMustFall · 03/05/2020 23:37

Not sure what I am paying for right now as my nearest Tesco is 3.7 miles away and I don't drive

You aren't paying. Tesco have suspended charging for Delivery Savers and it's correct that those with delivery passes can see four weeks for deliveries, I've never tried Click and Collect.

lyralalala · 03/05/2020 23:49

@SirVixofVixHall It's the paid regular delivery pass for Tesco that people had before this all kicked off

GabsAlot · 03/05/2020 23:58

can only see 3 not a delivery saver customer

GabsAlot · 03/05/2020 23:59

also in th q right now do they release them at midnight?

SleepingStandingUp · 04/05/2020 00:03

If you're shielding op you can get priority booking if you have an account with them

SirVixofVixHall · 04/05/2020 00:17

Thanks lyralalala
I never needed a delivery before the pandemic, as our local store is close and we shop there several times a week. I am in a vulnerable group ( Coeliac) so now I can’t risk shopping in the store, and thankfully up until now we have managed to get deliveries every three weeks or slightly less. This week I am due a delivery on Friday, but have been trying all week to book the next one. Just tried again, no slots. Have been up this late all week trying to get a slot. As we are a family of four the eighty item limit doesn’t go very far if you have to wait over three weeks for another slot, and now I am concerned we may not get one at all.

lyralalala · 04/05/2020 00:58

@SirVixofVixHall If you are still awake try just after 2am. Why slot grabbed at midnight and not checked out will come free 2 hours later. It’s a tactic that’s worked for a few people on here

SirVixofVixHall · 04/05/2020 01:02

I don’t know if I can face staying up for another hour on the off chance, I am so tired after a week of stupidly nights, but maybe I should ?
I wonder if there have been any available slots at all though, if others can book a week further ahead. Maybe there were already no slots for the day I could look at ?

Pipandmum · 04/05/2020 01:03

I'm a delivery saver but can only see three weeks. I was just getting the odd click and collect but a few days ago suddenly all the days opened up and you could book a delivery any day any time! I have a delivery and click and collect pending so I can't check to see what the situation is now.
