Changes to Tesco slots?

ExhaustedFlamingo · 03/05/2020 22:13

Family of four, been shielding due to pre-existing health issues (me), and been managing to grab click and collect slots - with a great deal of effort.

I think the supermarkets have done amazingly well increasing capacity, and if I'm not lucky enough to get a slot, I understand. There's so many of us trying, I don't blame the supermarket at all if I'm not successful.

But here's the thing. Talking to my mum yesterday over Skype - she is a pre-existing delivery saver customer, which may be relevant. I could only see slots up to 22nd May - everything taken for click and collect, and delivery (we haven't taken any delivery slots because we can manage click and collect). Anyway, she could see slots up to 29th May!!

She is local to me and we were comparing slots for the same branch. She's basically able to see slots a week ahead of me. I've refreshed/reloaded etc and I'm a week behind her. Does anyone know the reason for this? Are Tesco giving preferential booking to those who were existing delivery saver customers?

With a huge amount of effort, I'd been able to get click and collect slots but for the past fortnight or so, there's been absolutely nothing. I'm wondering if Tesco have changed their philosophy and are now giving delivery saver customers advance booking? It's the only thing I can think of to explain the difference.

I've got absolutely no problem at all not being able to get a slot if we're all trying at the same time. It's hard for everyone and we can't magic up more slots. But if Tesco ARE offering advance booking to their delivery saver customers, then there's basically no chance for the rest of us. Mum said for the week ahead - which I can't even see yet - there was only one slot left for the Friday and that was the last day on what she could see. So, in other words, when it gets released to the rest of us, no bloody wonder there's nothing left because they've already been taken! Aaargh!

I'm making sweeping assumptions here as mum isn't on any kind of list so that's the only reason I can think of.

I have managed to get slots for click and collect with Asda - did our first one today. Tons of stuff substituted or out of stock and not substituted - don't normally have the same problem with Tesco other than the odd thing here or there. I've got two autistic children, one with quite profound difficulties, and while they eat quite a reasonably healthy diet, they've very rigid. Not being able to get certain things is a real headache - substitutions don't work. Deep sigh.

I really don't want to sound like an entitled brat, and with so many people ill and dying, I realise that this is minor. But has anyone else noticed this or does my mum have access to some magical Tesco portal that's blocked to us mere mortals?

First post so please don't slay me for sounding like a whiny cowbag.

17 days for Morrisons?

Everytime I have looked on there they are only showing 3 days at a time and I have yet to see any available slots. It is definitely area dependant.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/05/2020 08:05

I couldn’t see more than 3 days ahead with Morrison’s until I got a delivery saver.

Redglitter · 05/05/2020 09:40

Theres a load of Tesco slots just appeared on my app for tomorrow. Cant believe it. Choice of about 6 slots

In our local Morrisons there are TONS of slots. It's insane! I can book even find slots for this week - and there are several weeks showing. It's totally out of sync with the other supermarkets but I'm bloody delighted. Never shopped there before but going to give it a go, fingers crossed!

I'm in a town but bordering on lots of rural areas and we have a ton of supermarkets here. It's honestly ridiculous how many we have. That might be why we have so many slots at Morrisons free and why up until recently I was able to pick up Tesco slots too.

Some Tesco slots just appeared for me too! Finally got one for my parents, so relieved!

I can only see three days for Morrison's too.

Othersvoices · 07/05/2020 07:41

I think the supermarkets have really tried hard to increase deliveries.
New drivers taken on and the large store near here is full of people picking orders for click and collect.

I'm both on the vulnerable list and a delivery saver customer.

For the first month I got slots at midnight, then that stopped working as, even if I queued from 23:40, I didn't get in until everything was gone.

I actually suspect they show the new day but close the time slots off still, at midnight!

I've now found if you log in a week or two before you want a slot in the coming 3-13 days, you stand a better chance.

More recently I've only been able to get the priority booking which is the one they text you on the day to let you know what hour they'll be there.

Sometimes I've had to book slots 10 days apart, then a week or two later I could change the delivery slot nearer the time, brining the 10 day one up a few days, making it only a week apart again. Had to do that a few times!

I can only say about Tesco as I don't use other supermarkets. But what I have noticed in the last week or so that they seem to be releasing slots at different times during the day. The last one I got at by looking just looking about 10am I got a slot, and my mum got a slot as well. And then randomly I managed to get a slot at 6am again so did my mum. Yes we have to wait until the 20th of May but that's fine.

I did just check and my local one has slots this week, but when I looked yesterday they had none. So I would just keep checking throughout the day.

I work for Tesco. Vulnerable customers with a government letter are given priority but aren't booking slots in the same way. Only booking the day for the delivery, not the time.
You should have received a text message from Tesco when the government data was passed to us. Contact tesco if you haven't received this
If you did not get a government letter then you are not shielding, you are making a choice and are actually in the same boat as everyone else.

Supermarkets need to use the correct wording as it’s causing a lot of people confusion.
If a supermarket says priority slots for the vulnerable, everyone on the long ‘vulnerable’ list thinks they should be included.

Many don’t seem to understand that there are 2 separate lists. The sooner supermarkets use the correct term of ‘extremely vulnerable’ the better as it will hopefully help people to understand why they have not been included for the priority slots.
