So the Beeb has to save a bit of cash any suggestions

mine are as follows

Stop sending out news reporters and their crew everywhere to report from ie the coast when there is a gale or outside a hospital when someone important is being treated

Sack Steve Wright who earns £500k a year and his sycophants

Dont broadcast all night stop at 1 am and restart at 530 am

Vanessa Feltz does 1.5 hours on Radio 2 in the early morning followed by 3 hours on Radio London plus bits and pieces of telly work. So for a thousand hours of radio per year her hourly rate is very high but not insane.
Alan Shearer OTOH is a bonkers salary per hour for what he does.

Claudia gets more than Tess because she does other TV work and has her own weekly radio show.

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2020 13:06

Does Steph McGovern still work for the BBC?

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 30/04/2020 13:08

Wipe out the whole of Albert Square with a bizzare helicopter smashes into petrol tanker episode.

Make the One Show nominatively determined: Just one show, then no more.

Bring back the testcard and tell that girl to get a move on.

Consolidate popular shows: Call The Holby Midwife. Strictly Come Antiques Roadshow Top Gear Sewing Bee, etc.

LakieLady · 30/04/2020 13:13

Blimey @tenlittlecygnets, that list looks like 10 mills-worth already.

Cut the rest of the Strictly wankers and retired footballers, add the money from overseas iPlayer subs and I reckon you'd nearly have covered that £125m.

LadyEloise · 30/04/2020 13:13

Let people worldwide have access to the BBC player by paying a sum annually. I'm in Ireland and can't access it - as we pay a licence fee to our own national broadcaster RTE and we don't pay a UK tv license fee.

I'd love to have access to it and would be willing to pay.

LakieLady · 30/04/2020 13:17

PP makes a really good point about the Nick Knowles voice over- why? Why do we need a familiar voice (I'm not actually sure that many people actually like him anyway)

He is utterly loathed here at Lakie Hall. It's a race to the remote control to try and turn over whenever he appears.

Michael McIntyre is met with a similar response.

Gawdsake2020 · 30/04/2020 13:17

Just get with the times and put adverts on their channels? Problem instantly solved?

Raver84 · 30/04/2020 13:17

Stop making programmes for cbebeies. By the time they have repeated all the programmes they have already the kids will mot be watching cbebeies anymore they will be about 5! There is no need to make new content to teach numbers, letters and being kind which don't chnage! I have 4 kids 10 to 3 and I always why they don't show the same programmes and waste millions re creating for example 'come outside'with auntie mable with' do you know wit', maddie. We've also had 'number blocks' 'number jacks' and 2 versions of 'num tums' It's all the same!

Gawdsake2020 · 30/04/2020 13:19

@raver84 that’s a good point. It’s all just repeats from when my eldest was young and he’s ten! Just no need.

HermioneWeasley · 30/04/2020 13:19

Scrap non U.K. services or make them paid for

Allow people overseas to pay for iPlayer

Stop all their trans propaganda

I’m sure there’s armies of middle management and non jobs high are less high profile but richer pickings than celebrity salaries. I wonder how many “diversity and inclusion” people they have?

HermanHermit · 30/04/2020 13:20

The high salaries are entirely justified for programmes that they make a profit in by selling abroad (via BBC worldwide). Zoe ball on radio 2 however ? Less convincing

Gawdsake2020 · 30/04/2020 13:22

They better not get rid of RuPauls drag race U.K. though... now that’s the only programme worth paying the licence for! 😂

VideographybyLouBloom · 30/04/2020 13:25

I haven’t RTFT but my immediate thought is get rid of Gary Lineaker. Really, who is going to miss him?

WickedlyPetite · 30/04/2020 13:25

Get rid of Tess & Claudia, and Gary Lineker can go too.

AllesAusLiebe · 30/04/2020 13:27

Start with Lineker, work backwards through the appallingly inflated salaries. I think the BBC should focus on what it does best - documentaries, dramas, news and kids TV. Sport coverage has been terrible for years.

. . .

I hate Lineker. Just get rid of Lineker. 😂

Brainfogmcfogface · 30/04/2020 13:31

Today 10:51 peoplewhoannoyyou

Drop kids' programmes, BAME programmes, reality stuff, tennis, athletics, shit like Strictly Come Dancing. Any programme they create that becomes successful is sold to another network*

I really hope this is a joke that’s gone over my head. Stop all BAME programmes?! Fuck right off!

EmpressJewel · 30/04/2020 13:31

I worked for the Beeb once, it was an extremely wasteful organisation considering it is publicly funded.

They pay well above market rates for staff salaries in certain back office roles, easily £10,000 more.

My team was split between various offices so a couple of them would travel to down to our office from various locations across the country and stay the night in a hotel. This would have cost hundreds of pounds per week.

My colleagues would arrange meetings across the country and stay in hotels overnight despite being able to return the same day. No one would bat an eyelid.

I appreciate this may not seem excessive to some, but this just isn't how most other publicly funded organisations work.

The one thing I would say is that some of the highest earners are paid from the commercial arm of the Beeb, which is a separate entity and not funded by the tax payer.

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2020 13:32

I think SCD can go on just fine with no presenters at all.
Be a much shorter show without all the scripted unfunny jokes etc

GabsAlot · 30/04/2020 13:36

the only things i watch are wimbledon doctor who and strictly occasionally wouldnt miss anything else

Fuss · 30/04/2020 13:52

Stop giving idiots on Bargain Hunt money to fritter away on overpriced crap with dealers who's eyes must light up when they see them coming.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 30/04/2020 13:55

Get rid of any "comedy" (sic) on Radio 4.

bettybattenburg · 30/04/2020 13:59

@Sparklingbrook Who is Greg James?

Get rid of children's television, it must cost a fortune.

HeadPotato · 30/04/2020 14:01

Is there a list of the highest earners anywhere?

stillathing · 30/04/2020 14:02

Stop grooming people with the anti science aspects of trans ideology.

Start representing the majority of women who are forced to sell sex, not just the "happy hooker" minority the men and men pleasers like.

Stop the victim blaming headlines. Stop conspiring to obscure the fact that male violence is endemic to our society, be it DV, fighting other men or terrorism. Take DV seriously and stop telling us what great guys the perpetrators were.

Represent women in prison (almost always victims themselves) as much as they represent transwomen in prison.

Audit their children's output for sex stereotyping and do something about it. Be more progressive.

I don't currently pay the licence fee.

LaurieMarlow · 30/04/2020 14:04

Why are ppl suggesting getting rid of kids TV? Confused

They produce such quality output here. It’s world leading, an important contribution to children’s lives, lucrative, can be licensed out.

WTH are people thinking?
