To think getting dressed everyday will make me feel better

I have not worn makeup or done hair since lockdown.

Would it make a difference in my mood to get dressed every day and put on a full face?

Does it help anyone feel better?

I feel the constant wearing of dog-walking clothes is a drag for me. It's just so easy to stay in them working from home.

I do put on my face to do the shopping and when conferencing with my students, the latter not least because I can see my face as well as they can and don't want to frighten the horses.:o

Monty27 · 28/04/2020 01:48

Day PJ's night PJ's is me.
OP you're fine Flowers

Courgettequeen · 28/04/2020 01:50

I fully understand there's no point to putting on makeup for my job, as I don't see people.

I want to start to return to normal a bit and maybe putting on some makeup would do the trick?

Finding it pointless but maybe worth a try starting tomorrow. Or maybe a waste of time and makeup.

I can't comment about the full face because I don't wear make up but I definitely feel much better when I shower and put on clean clothes.

I'm self isolating (shielding due to health issues) so technically I do not need to bother and I'm generally a bit of a grot anyway but fresh clothes do give me a boost.

I cut my own hair too, it's really easy and always cheers me up when it feels lighter around my head and neck.

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/04/2020 01:51

Maybe you could plan a really good meal and get all dressed and made up for it and see how that makes you feel.

Courgettequeen · 28/04/2020 01:54

@DioneTheDiabolist

Yes. Just a bit of normal sounds really good during these weird times.

Actually OP I do need to shop so naturally I wear real clothing then, a bit of lippie even. I kind of was a bit glib there.
I have gardening clothing and decorating clothing as well. All of those get washed and reworn and will be binned soon. hopefully
But really don't beat yourself up. Wear what you need to. When I wash my hair I put fancy PJ's on. I strip my bed and put fresh on when I've washed my hair and wearing naice PJ's.
Go with the flow. Keep well. That's what's important right now. Smile Flowers

I typically wear smart work dresses, v. Professional attire.

I am now permanently in leggings and jumpers.

Want to wear a dress again, but no point due to not going anywhere! Not to sound ungrateful for my health. Really, bc I am.

I'm just getting a bit antsy IYKWIM.

PerkyPomPoms · 28/04/2020 02:06

I wear very little makeup anyway, but as I am sitting in a cold part of the house to teach I have cosy pants on and a smart top.

Courgettequeen · 28/04/2020 02:06

I realise with all going on, this post is v. Shallow Confused

Courgettequeen · 28/04/2020 02:11

@PerkyPomPoms

Does getting dressed even with a bit of makeup help you feel a bit normal with everything going on?

I am going to try to put on a full face tomorrow no matter what!

Wishandwonder · 28/04/2020 02:16

It’s makes a difference, well it has to me. I had to get a routine going because I felt like I was loosing days. I felt like I was waking up, dealing with the baby then back into bed for 7.30 and it was really getting me down. I started getting us both dressed in the morning, and I felt like it was an actual day. It might not make much sense but definitely makes me feel better.

Monty27 · 28/04/2020 02:17

OP your post is not shallow. At all. I love dressing up to go out. We will again. Take heart. ❤️
Put your make up on tomorrow. Wear nice clothes. Do your best and enjoy it. There's no rules here Smile

SamMarie37 · 28/04/2020 02:20

I've been finding it hard doing much but when I drag myself up, and get dressed I find everything else feels easier and a bit more normal. Even if it's jeans and a t-shirt, trying getting dressed each morning and see if it makes a difference for you!

Ginandplatonic · 28/04/2020 02:24

Not shallow at all OP - doing whatever it takes to look after your mental health is really important. I just got up, had a shower (am in Australia) and put on jeans rather than trackies/leggings, and some makeup. Hardly “dressing up” but it definitely made me feel better. And more like doing things. Give it a go and see if it works I’d say.

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/04/2020 02:31

I'm doing it.

I have noticed people giving me a second look because my hair is done, I am wearing me naice clothes and make up. But it makes me feel so much better!

I like wearing nice clothes when I am out and about and I realised that the less I dressed up, the less I seemed to care about things in general, like it set my mood.

When I look in the mirror and think "Yep, you are doing alright" it really does make me feel better, so if that makes me shallow, so be it :)

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/04/2020 02:33

When I say "getting a second look" I dont mean because I look super fab, but because I am obviously dressed up and they are wondering why!

FireandFury · 28/04/2020 02:34

I started a new job last week which entails a load of Skype video calls so I’ve had to wear office clothes at home which has felt a but strange. DP the same.

FortunesFave · 28/04/2020 02:36

Definitely do it. I've worked for myself from home for the past 12 years and I get dressed in decent clothes and wear makeup daily.

Some days I only see DH and the kids....doesn't matter though. I can't stand looking a mess. Imagine if I'd spent the last 12 years in joggers and grey roots!? I'd be a depressed mess by now.

managedmis · 28/04/2020 02:36

I wore a shirt today, felt much better

MariahLairy · 28/04/2020 02:40

OP, I haven't been out of my house or seen anyone in 2 weeks, and I've put perfume on everyday! Dressed nicely for myself and been painting my nails.
Definitely works wonders for me in making me smile and making me feel normal!

LostDesire · 28/04/2020 02:44

I can't see any harm in trying it OP. Getting dressed and slapping makeup on ready for the day can only be a good thing? I mean yeah being in lazy clothes is nice but not all the time.

LadyB49 · 28/04/2020 02:49

I haven't been out for 5 weeks. Do make up and hair every day tho do wear leggings and jumper etc. West perfume.
Mainly cos I look rough without make-up..... Blonde eyelashes and eyebrows. Also freckles. Definitely need make up.

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/04/2020 02:51

Oi!! @Ladyb49 .....nothing wrong with freckles thank you :o Wink

EarringsandLipstick · 28/04/2020 02:55

OP I'm wfh & also taking care / supervising home schooling of 3 kids. There have been days I've just pulled on sports clothes intending to go for a run, and not got there.

Working all day in gym wear, without showering, has had a very negative effect on my MH.

So now, I make an effort with my clothes, less than what I do usually - not in suits & heels 😀 - but smartly dressed, hair done, make up on. Makes a huge difference to how I feel.

(If I've a chance to go for a run, I just get changed & go!)

I'd try smarter clothes & a bit of make up as it sounds closer to your usual 'normal'
