To think getting dressed everyday will make me feel better

I have not worn makeup or done hair since lockdown.

Would it make a difference in my mood to get dressed every day and put on a full face?

Does it help anyone feel better?

Definitely get dressed and out some make up on. Doesn’t have to be full professional work level of dress, but get out of those joggers into something more smart casual. Make up will boost your moral.

TheGlitterFairy · 28/04/2020 07:57

Been up and dressed with make up/ hair done each day also. Def makes me feel better than not doing.

ichifanny · 28/04/2020 07:58

It really helps me feel myself I get a bit downtrodden after a while not botheringitbwas key to working through some PND I had too . Every now and again I have a pyjama day but if I do it everyday i start to feel a bit drained and demotivated .

TheRoyallingStones · 28/04/2020 08:00

I never wear make up or style my hair normally. But I have been making sure I get up and dressed every day in lockdown even though I’m wfh with no video meetings. I do think it helps so if it’s hair and make up for you then go for it! Try it for a few days and see if it helps you

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 28/04/2020 08:01

Why not just try it? Wear a small amount of make up, do your hair and some nice casual clothes. Even a little effort (in my case it is wearing shoes instead of crocs) makes a big difference.

catwithnohat · 28/04/2020 08:06

Washing and styling my hair and putting my face on always makes me feel better.

Clean clothes and a squirt of perfume also helps (even if clothes wise I look like a tramp!)

KatherineJaneway · 28/04/2020 08:07

I find getting up, washed, dressed and putting some make up on helps with a feel of structure of my day. I also put the camera on for most meetings so I can't slob about with unbrushed hair and pj's on.

Leflic · 28/04/2020 08:09

I don’t wear make up so no idea why “ full face” would make you feel better.
What’s wrong with your hair . Is it short so needs cutting? What does “done” mean dyed or brushed or what?
I’ve just wearing shorts and vest most days as it’s been boiling. And summer dresses when I’ve done the shopping.

itispersonal · 28/04/2020 08:10

I have been getting dressed everyday, I might not do it until the afternoon! I havent been washing my hair as regularly, but will still wear lipstick around the house.

It definitely helps me better and slightly more motivated for the day, though I don't really have lounge wear/ joggers and my work wear is the same as everyday clothes - leggings and dress, jeans and a top. But with the glorious weather I've been chucking on my beach dresses etc.

For me, staying in pjs all day is for when you are ill and so if I did that, it wouldn't help me!

TerrapinStation · 28/04/2020 08:15

What a fuuny question, why do you think you can't make your own choice on what you wear or whether you put your make up on.

I know the covid police are out in force but I can't imagine anyone cares how anyone else dresses do they?

Rabblemum · 28/04/2020 08:19

Freckles are individual and interesting, don’t always cover them up.

ladyflower23 · 28/04/2020 08:20

Most days I'm showering and putting make up on as if life were normal. It makes me feel less lethargic and motivates me. Maybe because it's starting the day in the same way as I did when I used to go to work.

YorkshirePud1 · 28/04/2020 08:23

I'm another one here who showers, dresses and puts a bit of make up on every day, even if I'm not going out. It just makes me feel better - I've always been the same. Though I am getting through lots of crappy/old/cheap make up I have while I save my good stuff! Grin

Kraejka · 28/04/2020 08:23

Don't really know why you are asking. Wear what you want, do your hair how you want, make up on or not. If it makes you feel better then do it. If you can't be bothered then do it.

Lily193 · 28/04/2020 08:24

I've worked from home for years and always dress properly and do my hair. Mentally, it makes a huge difference. I couldn't wear pyjamas or lounge wear all day.

thecatsthecats · 28/04/2020 08:24

Freckles are individual and interesting, don’t always cover them up.

I'd go further and say that covered up freckles often look 'off' in some indefinable way, even with really good make up.

I've been working during the day in leggings and cosy clothes mostly, then get dressed up for the evenings. The reverse of the norm!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 28/04/2020 08:25

To be honest I’m not even wearing my work clothes or putting on my usual makeup for the days i DO go to work. That’s because I remove my clothes and put in the machine as soon as I get home and then shower to help avoid bringing anything home to my family.

I am getting dressed every day and (obviously) showering but I only blow dry my hair for work.

DS has taken to spending all his time in PJs and I’ve been trying to convince him that getting dressed would make him more alert but he’s a teenager who clearly knows much more than his parents.

Comenext · 28/04/2020 08:29

First thing: Have a wash/shower. Get dressed. Go for a walk/run.
You will feel better and more able to cope with the rest of the day.

Isawamagpie · 28/04/2020 08:37

absolutely feel free to get dressed.
I dont understand the make up thing as I rarely wear make up, but I can't imagine all this time not bothering to get dressed!
I usually change out my pj's into work out clothes, do a work out, then wash and get changed into day clothes, then a dog walk/exercise/some fresh air, lunch, reading/housework/TV in the afternoon, dinner, some self care (face mask, nail polish, chocolate) in the evening before bed.
Having a calm relaxing routine can really help things, and I honestly think the odd Pj day isn't a bad thing, but getting dressed and having something to focus on really helps.
Its strange times! Be kind to yourself, and do what makes you feel good!

cobblers123 · 28/04/2020 08:41

I would love to put on a bit of face and eye make up at the moment as I have had surgery on my face for skin cancer but due to the healing process I can't wear any.

Thank goodness for lipstick though.

Camphillgirl · 28/04/2020 08:41

There are no rules here. I set alarm and get up early then I have some quiet time to myself to enjoy a coffee and toast before all heck let’s loose. Then I get dressed and put on perfume depending on the day I have mapped out.

My gran used to do housework in high heels, said it made her feel good about herself.

Slob out at weekends as usual, you deserve it. I love you girls keep up the good work.

coronabeer23 · 28/04/2020 08:43

Monday to Friday I get up dressed and proper clothes plus make up without fail. If I don’t do that I am not ready for the day. About 7pm I change into more comfortable clothes. Weekends I take it a bit easier but also get dressed albeit more casually. It makes a massive difference to mental health

Beautiful3 · 28/04/2020 08:44

Getting washed and dressed by lunch time into jeans and t shirt here. Makes us feel better. Can't comment on the make up though because I don't wear it, it makes me break out!

Beautiful3 · 28/04/2020 08:46

@cobblers123 sorry to hear about your skin cancer. Hope the operation went well. Wishing you a speedy recovery x

funinthesun19 · 28/04/2020 08:47

I do feel better if I get me and the kids dressed each day. I haven’t worn makeup for about a month now though which doesn’t bother me - I actually feel good about getting lots of sun to my face recently.
