To think getting dressed everyday will make me feel better

I have not worn makeup or done hair since lockdown.

Would it make a difference in my mood to get dressed every day and put on a full face?

Does it help anyone feel better?

I started off being in my comfy clothes and it just didn't help my motivation.

I know get up and get properly dressed with a full face of makeup and hair done.

Its nice at the end of a work day to change into comfy clothes - I feel I have earned it

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/04/2020 13:11

I would be up for that @Waspie but I'm not sure about the nice shoes, it can get muddy where I walk. I have been known to wear a summer dress and trainers or wellies for dog walking though.

Micsam89 · 28/04/2020 13:16

Do it if it helps! It's not shallow. I find when I'm going through a bad mental health time, getting up and showered, dressed and with nice makeup and perfume can really boost my mood. I have a SAHM friend who always looks gorgeous. She told me it helps her feel good about herself, motivated and less lazy when she's dressed well and has a full face each day.

AdobeWanKenobi · 28/04/2020 13:20

@thecourtjester does spamming all the boards here with your inane links make you feel much better too?

DollyDoneMore · 28/04/2020 13:23

I shower and get dressed every day because I am not skanky.

Bakedpotatoandgin · 28/04/2020 13:27

It definitely helps me. I started lockdown in permanent trackies/ leggings / onesies, but now I alternate between a few days of nice, normal clothes, and a day of slobby clothes. I mostly wear thick tights and skirts in colder weather anyway, so it's still comfy (I haven't worn jeans for weeks now!). I don't wear make up anyway , but I have been varying my hair a bit

EyeDrops · 28/04/2020 13:28

I definitely feel happier on days when I put a little makeup on. Its not much but definitely makes me feel 'nice' and boosts my mood.

Jamandbreadd · 28/04/2020 13:30

I usually have a shower and put on a tiny bit of makeup before lunch. It gives me a boost to get through the rest of the day since I am finding wfh quite draining. It does help. I also find that putting on bright colours helps! I’m wearing a lot of yellow T-shirts Grin And some mascara, I feel more “human”/like myself.

Starlightstarbright1 · 28/04/2020 13:34

I find if I don’t put my contact lenses in I feel more sluggish. Make up/ doing your hair can make you feel better.

I haven’t dried or straightened my hair since lockdown but do brush and tie my hair up and did dye it the weekend.

Do whatever makes you feel better x

Fleamaker123 · 28/04/2020 13:35

Always shower and dress, bit of makeup too (just to hide the blotches!) Just makes me feel better. Hate being in pj's during the day. But that's just me... I do envy people who have pj days, they sound so relaxing. But I can only get to 10.30 tops and I feel twitchy.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/04/2020 14:06

I've had days of getting into pajamas early, normally if I've had an evening run and shower so it wasn't worth dressing into fresh clothes.

I'm a SAHM so am wearing my usual comfy day clothes or active wear, but that's what I'm used to. I wouldn't feel productive if I only wore pajamas.

When I RTW for a few years and wore dresses and smarter shoes, it was good feeling more polished. I don't wear make-up except for rare nights out, and my hair is quite natural and low effort, but I can see the value of putting your usual attention into them to feel yourself if that is your usual.

cardibach · 28/04/2020 14:34

I normally do my first session of work in pjs (I’m a teacher, so morning is making resources, afternoon contacting pupils) then shower and dress. If I’m going out I wear proper trousers but if not yoga pants. I’m not wearing anything I wouldn’t normally wear On a relaxing stay at home day at the weekend (normal times). I never wear make up anyway.
Makes no difference to me how I look, but if it does to you, do it. Whatever makes you feel good and comfortable.

Waspie · 28/04/2020 14:45

Perhaps I should post the idea in The Doghouse CaptainMyCaptain? There could be more of us out there just itching to walk the dog in the dress Smile

I don't wear the heels to walk the dog - I looked very fetching in my fascinator, dress and timberland boots last Friday Grin I save the heels for at home.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/04/2020 16:11

Right up my street Waspie Grin

Blackandgreenteas · 28/04/2020 17:03

I do get dressed but also have a lot of video meetings so need to!

Plus two kids in the house, we go for walks, in the garden etc., plus take them to their dads. So really I need to!

I think it makes me feel better. Today I’ve put make up on due to a particular kind of video meeting but haven’t been generally. I feel better when my hair is done too!

Blackandgreenteas · 28/04/2020 17:05

I accidentally left my make up bag at work on the last day I was there so have only got a few bits!

soberfabulous · 28/04/2020 18:11

I get dressed and put make up on and do my hair as normal each and every day.

I work a 12 hour day and around 9 hours of that is video calls.

Each to their own but for me, it really helps me to feel that I'm in my usual work routine and also helps me to focus.

StCharlotte · 30/04/2020 22:40

I've kept up my routine although a "full face" is only ever mascara and lippy. It normalises the work day for me. I'm even wearing the new clothes I bought on a pre-lockdown spree. My only concession to lockdown is after 30 years of wearing nail varnish every single day, I have naked nails for the duration.

TiddleTaddleTat · 30/04/2020 22:42

I get dressed as late as I possibly can depending on when the first video call of the day is happening !!

JaceLancs · 30/04/2020 22:47

I don’t wear make up at all
However I am dressing for work just as I would normally even though I’m working from home
Only difference is I can wear some of my amazing shoes as not walking very far!
Desk to kitchen or bathroom

RoseMartha · 30/04/2020 23:17

The dc and I are getting dressed in normal stuff everyday. I am putting on make up but only wear a bare minimum anyway. However we do go out almost everyday for a walk. Or we have to visit my parents for whom I am a carer for. (Dc do not go in their house).

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 30/04/2020 23:21

I ordered a lovely new dress, but obviously I've got nowhere to go in it. So I've been wafting around the house in it feeling fabulous!!
I do always get dressed anyway, I'm not a pyjama person, but I thought I'd step it up a bit!

So yes, it makes me feel better Grin

Karwomannghia · 30/04/2020 23:22

For about a week I didn’t wear make up or tight clothes and I felt a lot better once I started wearing nice things and making an effort. Its like being in a nicely decorated clean room makes me feel calm regardless if anyone else is there or not.

Murphs1 · 30/04/2020 23:34

I think it depends what you usually do at home. If at the weekend you would usually get up, do your
hair and make up, then that would be what’s normal for you.
Personally I always get up, showered, hair done and make up no matter what I’m doing - that’s my normal routine, unless I’m really unwell. But that’s just me.
There’s no right or wrong, it’s whatever makes you feel good.

namechange123779 · 30/04/2020 23:50

This week I've got up early with the kids, hauled my ass out of pjs/active wear and put jeans on & done my makeup I feel better & more productive , I've also eaten less!
