Aibu regarding Fleetwood Mac

This is terribly trivial, I am aware.
I was watching Peter Kay's Car Share and there was a part where Peter Kay's character said that the Fleetwood Mac version of Dreams was better than The Coors version. This is one of my all time favourite songs and personally think The Coors butchered it, however my sister said The Coors version is better.
AIBU to say Fleetwood Mac's original is far better than The Coors version.

@thecourtjester Yes because I absolutely want to frequent a site that needs to constantly spam others to boost its members....

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 13:22

@thecourtjester

Are they talking about anything other than how much they dislike “the other site” yet? Childish nonsense.

Lifeasweknow · 28/04/2020 13:25

I missed whatever @thecourtjester said. How disappointing.

All the way through the OP my mind was saying 'Hoors' Marian Keyes style! 😂

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 28/04/2020 13:35

Actually, I still think that the Corrs 'early stuff' (lol) was really good and a lot of their first album was great in a kind of Irish/poppy way, and they were actually quite talented!

When they became really mainstream and all their songs just blended into one they became really shite.

I did like their version of 'Dreams' but no, I wouldn't say it was better than FM.

Devlesko · 28/04/2020 13:37

You can't beat The Mac, especially with their own songs. I don't even have to listen to a cover to tell you this.

BabloHoney · 28/04/2020 13:39

It’s very rare cover versions are better then the originals in my opinion (I can only think of two of the top of my head.. Jeff Buckley “hallelujah” and Pet Shop Boys “always on
My mind” Grin. )

Fleetwood Mac every time by a billion miles.

bruffin · 28/04/2020 13:39

My favorite song of The Corrs is This Old Town, which i was shocked to find was never released as a single and they didnt do it at the Royal Albert Hall even though the audience was calling for it. I know Phil Lynot did This Old town first Grin

Katiepoes · 28/04/2020 13:46

Eight Miles High is not a Dylan song. But I agree the Byrds covers of his songs are better. The Corrs are a band I prefer to pretend don't exist, but for true cover horror see the dreaded Ronan's attempt at Fairytale of New York.

I like the Smashing Pumpkins cover of Landslide though, and I love the Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb. Covers are not always bad.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/04/2020 14:07

Doh, of course it's not, Katiepoes. I was thinking of My Back Pages.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 28/04/2020 14:14

Thanks to a PP who posted the video of The Partridge Family - David Cassidy was my crush then!!

MinesaPinot · 28/04/2020 14:21

Fleetwood Mac every time. They were brilliant when we saw them.

randomer · 28/04/2020 14:48

Sort of vaguely connected, David Bowie was way ahead of his time.

MizMoonshine · 28/04/2020 14:53

Your sister is very very wrong.

DGRossetti · 28/04/2020 14:56

Sort of vaguely connected, David Bowie was way ahead of his time.

In more ways than one ... did you catch the deal he managed to broker to keep himself in money and preserve his back catalogue in the late 90s ? It was lauded on a BBC4 documentary about the top grossing dead rock stars ....

YANBU. Your sister has the musical taste of a deaf haddock.

Fleetwood Mac are one of the greatest bands of all time, and one of the very few bands to have two classic line-ups. The late 60s / early 70s blues based lineup led by Peter Green, and the massively successful 70s / 80s lineup with Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and Lindsay Buckingham.

The Corrs are a dull, unoriginal covers band who were moderately successful more because of their looks than their music. There is no comparison between their awful version of Dreams and the original.

wetpants · 28/04/2020 15:25

I love FM but have never liked Dreams. To me it’s lift music drivel Grin

But I do love Lindsey Buckingham, he’s a god Blush

wetpants · 28/04/2020 15:27

Talking about covers, I’ve always loved Massive Attack’s Teardrop but I also have also loved Newton Faulkner’s version of it.

WorriedMummyNow · 28/04/2020 16:33

@UnfinishedSymphon Totally agree. Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence is phenomenal. Those are some technically brilliant vocals!

Lifeasweknow · 28/04/2020 17:04

@WorriedMummyNow @UnfinishedSymphon grab yourself some earbud headphones, go to YouTube and search for 'Disturbed - Sound of Silence 8D' it is an amazing experience, but you need headphones!

OP posts:
Lifeasweknow · 28/04/2020 17:07

Actually I'll just link it @WorriedMummyNow@UnfinishedSymphon

OP posts:
Fuss · 28/04/2020 17:19

Always loved Disturbed's version of Land of Confusion as well.

Can't listen to 8D. I get terribly motion sick with it.

Lifeasweknow · 28/04/2020 17:21

@fuss oh that's a shame. I really enjoy it and find it ever so relaxing

OP posts:
JamieLeeCurtains · 28/04/2020 17:40

@LaureBerthaud when I stay awake long enough to listen to DP's full and final views on the Stevie/Mick/Lindsay saga, I'll let you know Grin

Redyellowpink · 28/04/2020 17:52

Fleetwood Mac all the way.

However....controversial opinion (in more ways than one), despite being a big Beatles fan, I think Michael Jackson's version of come together is much better
