Aibu regarding Fleetwood Mac

This is terribly trivial, I am aware.
I was watching Peter Kay's Car Share and there was a part where Peter Kay's character said that the Fleetwood Mac version of Dreams was better than The Coors version. This is one of my all time favourite songs and personally think The Coors butchered it, however my sister said The Coors version is better.
AIBU to say Fleetwood Mac's original is far better than The Coors version.

As a gift this morning I'm letting you know that I can't get The Corrs 'Breathless' out of my head since reading this thread. Thanks op. Go on, go on, come on leave me breathless.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/04/2020 10:43

Thunder's Gimme Shelter is way better than the original Shock

Have to disagree. The Stones peaked in the late 60’s with some of the best rock songs ever Gimme Shelter and Sympathy for the Devil being masterpieces

Lifeasweknow · 28/04/2020 10:50

@Heygirlheyboy I'm ever so sorry- no really, it must be awfulGrin

Hmm Hmm I never really loved you anyway!

God I thought the Corrs were half decent at the time Confused

Fuss · 28/04/2020 11:08

Absolutely adore Thunder, excellent live band as well, but I agree, they can't beat The Stones.

Surprising how many people don't realise Nothing Compares to you was a cover. I also prefer the Prince version.

There was a great series of albums a few years ago called Punk goes...
Each album had some of the best more underground bands of the time like Anberlin and Mayday Parade covering other artists. There were some that were pretty good, like All Time Low's cover of Rhianna's Umbrella for one. Equally some were painful.

zscaler · 28/04/2020 11:11

I really like the Corrs, but the Fleetwood Mac version of ‘Dreams’ is much, much better.

Honeyroar · 28/04/2020 11:11

I think Fleetwood Mac wins it, but I didn’t mind the Coors version.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 28/04/2020 11:15

Speeded-up thrashy guitar covers may or may not be an improvement on the original. No Doubt's version of It's My Life is better than Talk Talk. So is Voice of the Beehive's I Think I Love You.

What is never, ever, an improvement on the original are slwoed-down breathless asmhatic squeaky girlie nouvelle-vague covers of anything.

Honeyroar · 28/04/2020 11:15

Coors?? Corrs!

And yes Allsaints cover is probably the worst. Mariah Carey wrecked Can’t Tell You Why by the Eagles too. Warbled all over it.

Honeyroar · 28/04/2020 11:18

Who did Voice of the Beehive’s I Think I Love You originally? I never realised it was a cover. Disagree that Talk Talk’s version is worse though. No Doubts was good, but not better.

One cover I was amazed to like was Adele’s version of The Cure’s Loveong. It was always one of my favourite Cure songs and I thought I’d hate all covers of it, but I didn’t.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 28/04/2020 11:21

Aaaaah, but Madonna's American Pie?

An epic allegory of the history Rock & Roll seen through the eyes of a paper boy who hears of the death of Buddy Holly. It's Eliot. It's Dante. It's a fucking masterpiece.

It's not a jolly nostaligic patriotic singalong.

maa1992 · 28/04/2020 11:21

Fleetwood Mac's is better!! But love both

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 28/04/2020 11:23

Who did Voice of the Beehive’s I Think I Love You originally?

David Cassidy & Shirley Jones aka The Partridge Family.

CaveMum · 28/04/2020 11:30

If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend watching the documentary “Songbird” which is about Christine McVie. It was on BBC4 some months ago and might still be on iPlayer. In fact the BBC have made some cracking Fleetwood Mac documentaries full stop so I’d recommend using lockdown to watch them all!

LaureBerthaud · 28/04/2020 11:54

My DP is obsessed with Fleetwood Mac. He talks about them ('Lindsay did this', 'Mick did that') like they're his personal friends

Smile @JamieLeeCurtains what does your DP think of Stevie getting Mick to fire Lindsay?

LaureBerthaud · 28/04/2020 11:56

Fleetwood Mac, a scarybeardy man and a mad American. 2 wimmin who warble like demented shrews. A bit of folksy twanging in the background. Oh yeah, Rumours, I listened to that in my bedsit in Clapham the year I broke up with Tamith... vom

Welcome to Mumsnet, Jim Corr Grin

Except it took me ages to realise the lyrics were
Lennon read a book on Marx I always thought it was Lennon Read a book on Mars and had a vision of John Lennon sitting reading a book on a barren planet. I thought it was Lenin at one stage as well.

Thymelord · 28/04/2020 12:04

Fleetwood Mac a million per cent. I do love Stevie Nicks though, I think she is amazing!

bruffin · 28/04/2020 12:08

Seen both Fleetwood Mac and The Corrs and i think i like both versions, but i supposed Fleetwood Mac wins because it is the original

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 28/04/2020 12:10

....Lenin read a book on Marx.

Lennon was busy practising in the park with the rest of The Quartet.

DGRossetti · 28/04/2020 12:11

Fleetwood Mac every single time! Their career has spanned decades

I think anything post-"Tusk" is probably best forgotten though Smile

Longevity is no substitute for quality - ask U2 ...

CockCarousel · 28/04/2020 12:45

Could Chris Martin's slaughter of be the worst cover ever? I think it could. Poor George.

maggienolia · 28/04/2020 12:50

Anyone have an opinion on "Somewhere only we know"? I've always thought Keane did it much better than Lily did.

@thecourtjester I did and it was rubbish!

Gosh I never twigged that Voice of the Beehives was that song!!🤣. Thanks @MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing. Beehives did it better!

Never realised Somewhere only we know was a cover either!
