Aibu regarding Fleetwood Mac

This is terribly trivial, I am aware.
I was watching Peter Kay's Car Share and there was a part where Peter Kay's character said that the Fleetwood Mac version of Dreams was better than The Coors version. This is one of my all time favourite songs and personally think The Coors butchered it, however my sister said The Coors version is better.
AIBU to say Fleetwood Mac's original is far better than The Coors version.

Love the song and originally fell in love with Stevie’s version and have it on my playlist but I do enjoy The Corrs version too. They didn’t butcher it at all.

mum11970 · 28/04/2020 06:49

I prefer The Corrs version.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/04/2020 06:54

I've never hears the Corrs version, I blame your sister for now having had a terrible start to the day.

Tracy Chapman should have sued for damages, their version of Baby Can I Hold You Tonight is criminal.

Ocies · 28/04/2020 06:59

Fleetwood MAC, and in particular, Stevie Nicks win out every single time. A totally class act.

maggienolia · 28/04/2020 06:59

Fleetwood Mac all the way for me.
But Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright is the best version.
On this subject DH likes John Lennons version of Jealous Guy, I prefer Bryan Ferry, each to his own I suppose.

SteeperThanHell · 28/04/2020 07:11

Having seen Leonard Cohen live I have to disagree @maggienolia he was amazing. K.D. Lang was better than Rufus as well.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/04/2020 07:24

KD Lang's Hallelujah makes me cry. Her voice is sublime.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 28/04/2020 07:25

I didn't know the Corrs did a version but just had a listen and YANBU with bells on!
Fleetwood Mac all the way!

Plurabellicose · 28/04/2020 07:30

In fairness, I know one of the Corr sisters slightly through DH, and the three of them are mortified by Jim’s mad tinhattery.

Pelleas · 28/04/2020 07:32

I'm really not a fan of the Corrs so I have to agree. I always think the Corrs sound affected.

Ginfordinner · 28/04/2020 07:34

Jux we went to see Fairport last year. Before the show started I was chatting to a man selling books and CDs, when I suddenly realised that he was pictured on the front cover. I said "Oh, is that you?". He replied "Yes, I'm the bass player" Blush

I love Fleetwood Mac. Rumours has got to be one of my all time favourite albums. BBC 4 did an entire evening devoted to them a while back. I had no idea that Christine McVie had written so many of their big hits until I watched the programme.

MaMaMyCorona · 28/04/2020 07:34

Nothing beats Fleetwood Mac!Star

whatdoyoudonow · 28/04/2020 07:36

Well Fleetwood Mac obviously.

MiddlesexGirl · 28/04/2020 07:42

I agree with you about Fleetwood Mac.
I disagree with just about everyone about covers.
Every performance of classical music is a cover. No you don't have to bring something new to a cover - just a decent performance is good enough to bring pleasure to people (including yourself) and that's what music is all about.

pirateparker · 28/04/2020 07:42

Fleetwood Mac every single time! Their career has spanned decades whereas many of the ‘others’ mentioned didn’t last thru my teen years...!

Whatisthisfuckery · 28/04/2020 07:45

OMG I’d forgotten about The Coors. They were shit.

Lol, as if The Coors would be better than Fleetwood Mac. That’s given me a laugh that has.

Plurabellicose · 28/04/2020 07:48

The Corrs, not The Coors!

rslsys · 28/04/2020 07:48

No remake is ever better than the original artist's work.
Except for Bob Dylan, everybody else's versions of his stuff are much better than his.

JamieLeeCurtains · 28/04/2020 07:53

My favourite covers include Take That's Could It Be Magic and I don't for the life of me know why. But it takes me to my happy place.

SteeperThanHell · 28/04/2020 07:53

@Disfordarkchocolate - I saw her live last year and may have shed a tear or two.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/04/2020 08:05

Got there before me, @rslsys! I love Bob Dylan but most of his songs do work better sung by others. Eight Miles High by The Byrds is one cracker. All Along the Watchtower, Jimi Hendrix, unbeatable. Dylan's Tangled Up In Blue is wonderful, though. Blood on the Tracks is my favourite album.

I can't agree that cover versions never work, @SorryDidISayThatOutLoud. Kate Bush did a really good cover of Rocketman. You wouldn't think that would work, but it really does. Tainted Love, Soft Cell. Pet Shop Boys - You Were Always on My Mind, their mash up of Where the Streets Have No Name/Can't Take My Eyes Off You.

ANoiseAnnoys · 28/04/2020 08:05

There can be no comparison. Fleetwood MAC are one of the worlds biggest, best loved bands and the Corrs are a 90s short lived phenomenon that relied on pretty faces and familial relationship as their marketing point. If Chris Evans hadn’t wanked himself into a froth over the Corrs at every opportunity, I doubt they’d have made any more of an impression than a squeaky fart in a hurricane

Hilarious! Grin

Yes, there is no comparison to Fleetwood Macs version. Funnily enough I came across a Corrs album in dh’s car the other week and put it on and I laughed at how dated it sounded. FM are timeless and Stevie nicks possibly my favourite female vocalist ever.

HaveAtEm · 28/04/2020 08:14

Oh my OP...your sister needs to stay in lockdown 😂😂

Lifeasweknow · 28/04/2020 08:15

It was nice to wake up to people agreeing with me, for the most part anyway. I think after this thread I'm going to need to do some updating to my playlist.

What are peoples opinions on Whitney's version of I Will Always Love You compared to DPs Original

OP posts:
AftonGlen · 28/04/2020 08:16

I heard the Corrs cover on the radio a few month back for the first time in years and was horrified by how bad it was. The Corrs are/were a really shit band imo.
