Very lighthearted!

I've just had chicken kiev for dinner and have been left very disappointed!
It got me thinking surely I can't be the only person who finds this annoying!
Yet again, hardly ANY garlic butter 😲 why is this?! I've tried from pretty much everywhere and am yet to find one that oozes with the yummy garlic butter like they do on the packaging! I feel very deceived 🤣
Has anybody else noticed this first world problem?!

YABU - stop being so greedy and enjoy you dry chicken kiev

YANBU - start a petition to get those kievs filled and oozing with the yummy garlicky goodness they deserve!

Tesco frozen own brand ones. They’re something silly like 90p. Sounds like they should be gross but they are the most garlicky ones I’ve come across so I keep going back to them Grin

BurningGubbins · 27/04/2020 18:08

Here’s a game changer we discovered recently: put the kiev on a slice of bread to cook it. The garlic butter seeps into it and you get a bonus bit of garlic bread!

Whatevernext1 · 27/04/2020 18:08

Oooh really! I haven't tried those ones, they will be next on my list! Thank you!

Home made are amazing and so easy to make!!

edwinbear · 27/04/2020 18:09

I have chicken kievs at least once a week, I reckon you’re cooking them for too long?

Whatevernext1 · 27/04/2020 18:09

@BurningGubbins well that sounds like a game changer! I will have to try that! Thank you!

I was going to say have a go at making them yourself. I've liked extra garlic butter on anything it can go on and I've started making more things.

Whatevernext1 · 27/04/2020 18:10

@Windyatthebeach you are so right! Home made ones are so much nicer, maybe I should go back to making my own!

huckleberrychin · 27/04/2020 18:11

@BurningGubbins I've seen that on FB but wondered if the bread is just soggy or does it go all yum and crispy? S'pose you could use fancy bread rather than regular sliced pan to further enhance the deliciousness

SpudsAreLife84 · 27/04/2020 18:11

M&S ones are lush and really garlicky. I buy the mini ones from the buffet range for the DC too, biteaize yumminess Grin

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 27/04/2020 18:11

If you burn it, it's called Chicken Chernobyl

Windyatthebeach · 27/04/2020 18:11

Our dc make ours!! Ds 11 is very keen!!

Whatevernext1 · 27/04/2020 18:12

@edwinbear that could be a possibility,I usually follow the instructions but turn the oven off but keep them in while I dish up the veg, maybe that's where I'm going wrong?

OP posts:
Whatevernext1 · 27/04/2020 18:14

@SpudsAreLife84 I must admit M&S are probably my favourite so far but I didn't know they did miniature ones! I'll have to try those when I next get a chance to go.

Triggahippy · 27/04/2020 18:14

The plant based ones from M&S are incredible- no seeping sauce

Elouera · 27/04/2020 18:15

Are you are referring to store bought kievs? Just make your own if you aren't happy with the filling!

Doggybiccys · 27/04/2020 18:16

The only thing I buy from Waitrose are their fresh Kievs / they are amazing and keep the garlic butter inside til cooked and cut open - You’ve put me in the mood for having one!

BurningGubbins · 27/04/2020 18:19

@huckleberrychin we used bog standard sliced bread and it was crispy, verging on too crispy by the time the kievs were done, so slightly thicker/posher might be a good idea. It was a little soggy right in the centre, but you know, bread drenched in garlic butter is by no means a bad thing...

Ironfloor269 · 27/04/2020 18:20

Please could someone share their Kiev recipe? When I make mine, the garlic butter comes out in an oily puddle around the chicken. 🙁

BigSandyBalls2015 · 27/04/2020 18:23

M&s gastropub Kiev’s are fab

AvalancheKit · 27/04/2020 18:26

It’s only a first world problem because first world Chicken Kiev comes in plastic.

If you make your own you might be delighted with the result. It’s actually quite easy.

livingthegoodlife · 27/04/2020 18:26

The Lidl ones definitely ooze lots of yummy garlic butter. I'm having one for dinner tonight and think I might try the bread thing mentioned above.b

Etinox · 27/04/2020 18:28

@Ironfloor269 I make the garlic butter then part freeze it before I put it in the chicken. Slit the breast and sort of tuck it together with a cocktail stick before do a flour- egg-bread dipping process then hot oven.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 27/04/2020 18:28

I cook them upside down as it's usually the thin, flat bottom that leaks. Upside down it becomes a mini bowl holding the melted garlic butter in

Etinox · 27/04/2020 18:28

And the butter is butter garlic and lemon zest/ lemon juice hence the freezing.
