Chicken kiev

Very lighthearted!

I've just had chicken kiev for dinner and have been left very disappointed!
It got me thinking surely I can't be the only person who finds this annoying!
Yet again, hardly ANY garlic butter 😲 why is this?! I've tried from pretty much everywhere and am yet to find one that oozes with the yummy garlic butter like they do on the packaging! I feel very deceived 🤣
Has anybody else noticed this first world problem?!

YABU - stop being so greedy and enjoy you dry chicken kiev

YANBU - start a petition to get those kievs filled and oozing with the yummy garlicky goodness they deserve!

Oh god another fan of the mini kievs here! I keep buying them for DS but he isn't actually that keen. Somehow they end up in the trolley anyway.... Blush

maddiemookins16mum · 27/04/2020 18:44

I cook them upside down in a little foil dish (I keep ones that pies come in).

lyralalala · 27/04/2020 18:47

I cook them upside down as well

Leaving them in the oven won't help, especially if you take a while to serve up. They'll essentially still be cooking for all that time.

NegativeNellyy · 27/04/2020 18:49

Booths are the best gavel

oooompa · 27/04/2020 18:52

I can't have chicken kievs due to low carbing, but you have me dreaming of them now OP 🤤

Out of interest, how many kievs would you have per person? I feel like one is the acceptable number but my stomach argues that two is the right number. This might explain the need for the low carbing 😩

Westfacing · 27/04/2020 18:54

Genius, pussycat !

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 27/04/2020 18:57

I had tesco steak and fat chips from their 'dine in deal' there was a pat of garlic butter, and drizzling it on the chips rather than the steak made them taste amazing.

Newbie1999 · 27/04/2020 19:00

The cheapest ones are ALWAYS the best.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/04/2020 19:01

Just remembers have some in the freezer that dinner tonight 😁

I love chicken Kiev. I prefer the ones made with breast of chicken but the ones that are made with god knows what are also delicious

I pour a little of the oil that comes out when cooking over the mash

murasaki · 27/04/2020 19:01

Sainsbury's posh range, lovely.

BekindStayhome · 27/04/2020 19:03

M&S are amazing but they don't use free range chicken and so I don't eat them any more and now I really really want one!!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/04/2020 19:04

That’s dinner on Grin

With ready made mash and spinach mixed with a little cream and horseradish sauce

I’m suddenly weak with hunger (not eaten for about 42 minutes)

handbagsatdawn33 · 27/04/2020 19:09

Not quite a Kiev, but I wrap mine in parma ham instead of pannéing - great for anyone low-carbing
Garlic butter is best frozen, wrap tightly in ham & use cocktail sticks to keep in place, cook seam-side up on foil. Any juices that might escape can then be poured over.

raisydenton · 27/04/2020 19:11

YANBU- there is a fine art to cooking them. Turn the oven down and notch and cook for less times 5 minutes- check and cook for a bit longer. Enjoy I haven't had them in ages but they are a favourite. I have never made them myself even though I like cooking.

Oblomov20 · 27/04/2020 19:18

God I love chicken Kiev's!

Doggybiccys · 27/04/2020 19:21

@oooompa - what @handbagsatdawn33 said. Makes a great low carb meal - I grate cauliflower and mix with finely chopped almond flakes to make a crumb - delish and really low carb

iklboo · 27/04/2020 19:24

My guilty please though is mini kievs & chips Blush

TaTuirseOrm · 27/04/2020 19:26

@BurningGubbins that sounds like the best idea ever!!! Can't wait to try it out.

ChocolateQuiltedShitPig · 27/04/2020 19:31

Yeah you're cooking them too long, there is a nack to it! As soon as I hear butter sizzling out, the kiev comes out

PickledWilly · 27/04/2020 19:32

Costco chicken Kiev in the whole chicken breast (frozen) are sooooo good

footprintsintheslow · 27/04/2020 19:35

Try Marks and Spencer Plant Based ones. You can't tell the difference and they are LUSH.

TheFlis12345 · 27/04/2020 19:36

I second the Sainsburys recommendation, the whole chicken fillet ones not the cheap ones. They are amazing!

@oooompa We are low carbing as well so make them ourselves using a coating of ground almonds mixed with finely gated Parmesan and they are bloody lovely!

inwood · 27/04/2020 19:38

Sainsbury's - the whole fillet ones are my favourite.

CherryPavlova · 27/04/2020 19:39

The answer is to make your own.

MikeEhrmantraut · 27/04/2020 19:39

Another for the sainsbos ones. Also when you take them out pour any leaked out garlic butter on top of them. Delightful.
