Kids entertaining themselves whilst I sleep

This is fine isn’t it?

Kids 4 and 8, get on well. On a Sunday DH has his lie in. Children get up at 7, come in for a cuddle then head downstairs, I go into guest bedroom and leave the door open so I can hear them and leave DH in bed with the door closed. I leave out a brioche and banana each the night before and cups. Eldest pours milk for them both and they eat brek and play/watch TV until I come down about 9. I only doze and am listening out for them. They know they can get me if they need to.

Can anyone see a problem with this?

@AppleKatie

What wrong the 'tone of the statement'?

I was talking about the choking aspect of this and replying to another poster. 🖕

AppleKatie · 29/04/2020 16:55

How rude! This is mumsnet we give biscuits not fingers 😆

Chiyo666 · 29/04/2020 16:57

Probably worries about choking on the biscuit, hence the finger Grin

CoronaIsShit · 29/04/2020 17:00

Agree with PP about the 4 year old (mine used to climb up on counter tops to find biscuits in the cupboard at that age), being too young to be left downstairs for a few hours while parents sleeping upstairs. The 8 year old may be too engrossed in what they’re doing to take much notice. Not worth the risk.

Absolutely hilarious...not

The OP asked if anyone can see a problem with what she is doing - I can see a problem and have said so. I don't know about poster finding a new hobby, I think some posters need to grow tf up!

raspberryk · 29/04/2020 17:07

@CoronaIsShit then that is a discipline issue in your house, neither of mine would anything like that and I don't think that's a normal 4 year old thing to be climbing foraging for snacks.

AppleKatie · 29/04/2020 17:11

You’re right that finger would be useful in a choking incident, it’s certainly food for thought for me 🤣

RedWine123 · 29/04/2020 17:30

Sounds fine to me. Like you said in your post you’re right there if they need you. Fed and entertained. No worries.

RedWine123 · 29/04/2020 17:33

@raspberryk that’s what your 4 year old wants you to think 😛 sneaking biscuits is a very 4 year old behaviour

CoronaIsShit · 29/04/2020 17:33

What a crock Raspberry. Maybe mine were more resourceful than yoursHmm. Little kids do things that you don’t realise they can do until they do them.

Hoggleludo · 29/04/2020 17:34

I wouldn't. My youngest choked on a piece of kiwi once when I was in the toilet. My eldest had been upstairs in the other bathroom and wouldn't of got back in time. My husband was there and was able to slap her on the back

Scary stuff

Takes a second.

ineedaholidaynow · 29/04/2020 17:34

What happens if the 8 year old gets bored with playing with the 4 year old and goes into their room, while the 4 year old is still eating, so won't notice that 4 year old may be having problems or is up to mischief?

Hoggleludo · 29/04/2020 17:36

Had I if had to of run from the bathroom. It would of been too long.

AngryFeminist · 29/04/2020 21:47

Wow this is making me reassess. My nearly 4 year old gets a tablet and a snuggle while I sleep until a reasonable hour on the (not infrequent) days he's up at the arsecrack 😅
