To ask whether you would support a further lockdown?

Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

@LilacTree Yes they are social visits, she moved in a year ago with just her and her partner. The men that visit sit in the garden having BBQ’s and drinking before buggering off home again only to return the next day...

Russellbrandshair · 25/04/2020 22:43

No I do not support it or agree with it.

rookiemere · 25/04/2020 22:45

Ayerobot I'm genuinely shocked by that graph. I've been so disappointed with the numbers over the past few days as it seemed like it had flatlined, but that clearly shows we peaked some days ago. Why aren't they showing this graph at the daily briefings- it's a heck of a lot more useful than just the numbers.

Macaroni46 · 25/04/2020 22:46

@Bathroom12345 excellent questions. I too am intrigued by this.

AmelieTaylor · 25/04/2020 22:46

@Chillicheese123

AmelieTaylor but that’s how symptoms start. You can’t just start admitting everyone with what are fairly mild symptoms

For the love of Christ - what IS your problem?

I SAID the NHS admitting people before they're unable to speak & their lips are blue

There is a decent period between having a headache/cough and not being able to speak & having blue lips

And that period in-between is when they need to be admitted.

How much more clearly do you need me to spell that out to you?!

lola777 · 25/04/2020 22:47

Sorry haven’t been back as I’ve been occupied. Haven’t read all replies! Sorry if the voting is messed up.

One thing I can say is I FULLY support the idea of the vulnerable being supported to stay at home. No one is expendable. I myself am in this category, but if I can return to work, I will. I believe the vulnerable and shielded should be offered enough financial support to make their own decisions, however, obviously this must be their choice.

rookiemere so everyone supports lockdown! That, and many reports of hospitals outside major cities being quiet in ICU (whilst shutting down most other facilities), is why I'm not in the least bit bothered by people having picnics.

LimitIsUp · 25/04/2020 22:48

No, but I do think that the elderly and vulnerable should receive all the assistance they need - financial and practical, if they choose to shield for self protection

AyeRobot · 25/04/2020 22:51

I'm not saying the government want lockdown to go on but they know they can't just say "lockdown over". So, I think they are going with a soft one, but not officially.

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:52

Aye but they do need to give notice because schools, workplaces etc....

Chillicheese123 · 25/04/2020 22:52

@AmelieTaylor Christ have a wine and chill out, it’s not that deep

LaurieMarlow · 25/04/2020 22:53

I just wondered why, all of a sudden, multiple posters, across all the threads, are saying this exact same line.

It’s just common sense really.

It’ll be around for a long time. We can’t stay hidden inside for alligators time.

LaurieMarlow · 25/04/2020 22:53

All that time Blush

Jeez MN why’s an edit button so hard?

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:53

Laurie I always wanted to see an alligator 😂

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:54

Maybe it’s only fair
Alligators get to play in the city for an hour every Saturday night!

flumposie · 25/04/2020 22:55

Yes. I would support lockdown as long as it is deemed necessary. I've hardly left the house in the last 5 weeks and currently self isolating due to a family member having symptoms. We all find it difficult at times but would continue if necessary.

AyeRobot · 25/04/2020 22:57

Loads of workplaces going back already or in the next few weeks. I work in construction (never actually stopped but most sites shut down for PR reasons working out how to work safely) and most will be back on site w/c 4th May if not before

Bathroom12345 · 25/04/2020 22:59

Will builders be back too Aye? We are waiting for a date for some major building work?

Still not clear on numbers? Are we going in the right direction?

Choctimeout · 25/04/2020 23:01

@LaurieMarlow I assumed 'alligator time' was an obscure saying I didn't know about, which meant a long time. Grin

I didn't have a tinfoil hat on, just noticed the phrase repeatedly over the last two days. It stuck out to me for some reason. I don't disagree with it.

I would fully support lifting lockdown as long as support was put in place for all those vulnerable to stay at home if they wish.

My friend has the added stress of worrying that she will be forced back to work if lockdown lifts, despite her five year old shielding. She has never had a day off sick but they were almost bullying her to stay in even after her daughter was told to shield.

Her idiot of a boss insisted she could just shield the 5 year old in a room upstairs for 12 weeks...on her own Hmm

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 23:04

Alligator time! It’s funny, I promise

secretllama · 25/04/2020 23:04

@Choctimeout

Heartless? I said we're delaying the inevitable by which I mean I believe there will be a rise in the number of cases once lockdown is eased whether thats in 2 weeks time or in 3 months time, not that I want/will try make this happen ffs Confused

AyeRobot · 25/04/2020 23:06

"Bathroom12345* The Construction Industry Council has issued safe working guidelines. Construction was never officially stopped, but companies were wary about being able to operate safely. And supply stopped. But manufacturers are getting back to work as are merchants.

user1494182820 · 25/04/2020 23:07

The health and safety of my family is my priority, so I absolutely would support a further, tougher lockdown. I have my own mental health issues and am not enjoying lockdown, but these would be exacerbated by a member of my family becoming ill.
