To ask whether you would support a further lockdown?

Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

Yes.

Because there are still 5,000 new cases being diagnosed every day and due to limited testing that is presumably a fraction of the number actually catching it.

Also because I haven't seen any evidence that in 2 week's time we're going to have the testing and tracing capacity to replace lockdown with a better strategy.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/04/2020 22:18

I don’t support a further lockdown.

The older people and vulnerable should isolate as necessary. No need for everybody to isolate with them.

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:19

“ people coming to our house had to be healthy and wash their hands”

I always had this rule. I really hope people take on better hygiene now!

Choctimeout · 25/04/2020 22:19

We're just delaying the inevitable extending it.

How heartless.

My friend is desperately hoping for a vaccine as she is petrified about losing her shielding five year old. Her daughter is severely vulnerable to covid but otherwise her condition would not be life limiting. Should she just shove her out of tge doir and get it over with?

If lockdown is lifted all those who are shielding AND the vulnerable group should be supported to keep isolating if they wish. Without that you would essentially be possibly sentencing them to an early death.

If everything just lifts with nothing put in place for them they will be forced to return to work/school. It would be inhumane to subject them to that kind of terrible russian roulette.

wheresmymojo · 25/04/2020 22:19

And we're both unemployed due to the virus so I'm not talking from some sort of privileged place.

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:22

Apparently Johnson is back on Monday so there may be more indication of...whatever.

AyeRobot · 25/04/2020 22:22

There aren't 800 people dying a day now. The numbers released every day are those announced - today's numbers included some who died in March. Peak death day by far (to date) looks like 8th April. Which doesn't even tie up with the announced lockdown.

Chillicheese123 · 25/04/2020 22:23

@wheresmymojo if you’re both now unemployed how are you paying your mortgage, bills, feeding your kids ?! What will you do in the future ? Scary times

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:23

A helpful person on the main thread supplied this link for daily figures

www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-daily-deaths/

AyeRobot · 25/04/2020 22:24

Fully back supporting those who are shielding, despite what I say about everyone else doing what they feel necessary, within social distancing limits.

Goforit20 · 25/04/2020 22:26

No idea

lynsey91 · 25/04/2020 22:27

Yes I would support it and I think it should happen. Me and DH are not going anywhere even if restrictions are lifted.

So many people deciding to ignore including loads of my neighbours. I think they are mad and selfish.

MrsSnitchnose · 25/04/2020 22:31

No I wouldn't, and I have no intention of complying after the next review if they decide to extend again.

I may not be able to go to work, but I will certainly go about my business in as normal a fashion as possible

Thanks for that @GarlicMonkey Just sent my join request Smile

Bathroom12345 · 25/04/2020 22:32

Aye. You clearly know lots about the death rate every day.

Could I ask how they know whether we are getting a grip of it?

Understand that if the figure is say 800 then it could be a hospital who have lumped their deaths in together and those mess up the figures.

So how do we know how we are doing?

DrDreReturns · 25/04/2020 22:32

No. Issues arising from economic problems (mental health etc) will soon outweigh issues from the virus. People will die from missing other treatments. Society needs to get back to normal. A vaccine is a long way away, we can't wait until then.

Cantata · 25/04/2020 22:33

Have not RTFT, but no, no, no, OP.

I don't support this lockdown (though have stuck to the rules) and would absolutely not support a further one.

No job, no money, no NHS care for a complaint that needs urgent investigation, no seeing my family. There is nothing for me at the moment.

I am not prepared to continue or to do this again.

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:35

Lynsey “ Me and DH are not going anywhere even if restrictions are lifted.”

I’m hoping a lot of people think this so public transport is less crowded!

AyeRobot · 25/04/2020 22:35

Loads of info on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3887149-Daily-numbers-graphs-analysis-thread-6

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 22:36

AyeRobot

I follow that thread but to be honest it's incomprehensible to a layman like me! I see numbers and my brain just goes "NOPE".

CantSayJack · 25/04/2020 22:37

Yes, I would support it but equally worried about job and whether I’ll have a job left.
A lot of people are not complying which makes it even worse when you are, our neighbour is letting in a visitor for social visits on a daily basis which makes me so angry 😡

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:38

Fromp

The link I posted upthread is much better, thanks to the person who supplied it.

There’s another thread going with deaths per day.

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 22:39

CantSayJack - do you actually know they are social visits?

AyeRobot · 25/04/2020 22:40

Here's Barracker's graph where she backfill with the time stamped date of death when it comes available (rather than just the announcement date)

To ask whether you would support a further lockdown?
southernbelles · 25/04/2020 22:41

Yes, although I would dearly love to be able to see my parents & siblings (they all live in one household) as I'm sure many would

Tumbledryer1 · 25/04/2020 22:42

I am happy to be locked down for as long as it is necessary to be safe for everyone
