Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

Having seen the number of people flouting the rules in recent days I think we need a total Spanish style lockdown fir a couple of weeks .
The UK has been less strict than other countries yet so many people have pushed the boundaries too far .

Chillipeanuts · 25/04/2020 19:25

Will support for as long as the medical evidence suggests it’s necessary.

Mikki2019 · 25/04/2020 19:25

No, will not adhere to it as I think it’s extremely unfair to be separated from my partner

midgebabe · 25/04/2020 19:25

Because if we are not very careful ( which is not the same as staying in lockdown) then we will lose many more lives to covid, cancer, suicide and such due to a broken nhs, and we will lose any chance of giving our children a healthy economy due to the mass loss of lives, the inability to function with so many people dead or ill

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 25/04/2020 19:25

NO. I do not support a further lockdown.

The virus is not going anywhere, we cannot keep this up for a year

Why do you keep posting this utter garbage

...because its the truth. Source

The issue here is that the media has whipped this up into a hysterical frenzy that bears no semblance to the reality of the situation.

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 25/04/2020 19:25

I don't know the answers so don't bother asking 'whos going to pay for it' I just really don't want to die and I'm really scared that if this lockdown is lifted without a vaccine I will in all likelihood be dead very quickly.

I'm really sorry you are in that position, but I don't understand what you are saying here? Are you talking about your own personal lockdown or do you really think that the entire country should lockdown until a vaccine becomes available? What if it doesn't?

elQuintoConyo · 25/04/2020 19:26

If you're in the UK then you're not on lockdown. You seem to be able to do what you did a month ago: go to B&Q, go for a walk, go for a bike ride. Shit, sounds like fucking luxury to me.

No. Agree with PP we need to try and regain some sort of normality and continue on with life.

Bluejuicyapple · 25/04/2020 19:26

@Umnoway you’ll see that was tongue in cheek. My concerns are around the impact of a lockdown on vulnerable families and people as a priority. Do you really think anyone with an ounce of sense actually genuinely cares if they have been to a hairdresser?

It actually makes very little difference to my life if there’s a further lockdown. I am extremely lucky to have a nice house, garden, relatively easy children with no SN and a job not at risk. There are many people who do not have this and a further lock down may be devastating to them. The least of my worries is my hair and nails!!)

vanillandhoney · 25/04/2020 19:26

I would support it and I think it will be extended for a further three weeks. The review date is just before May Bank Holiday and there is no way they'll relax it then!

midgebabe · 25/04/2020 19:26

If we hang on for a bit, then we minimise the total lockdown time

6 weeks now, 6 weeks later 6 weeks later

Or 8 to 10 weeks now and no more later

bluebeck · 25/04/2020 19:26

Yes, I absolutely would support a further lockdown for an additional 3/6 weeks before review and then possibly longer.

AmelieTaylor · 25/04/2020 19:26

@polka

I wonder what the CV death numbers would have looked like if we had a really harsh winter and really high flu deaths

You'll see in a few months if we don't get it under control NOW. It'll be catastrophic. The NHS can't cope in a normal winter.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 25/04/2020 19:27

*If you are in lockdown with ...

Loved ones around you.

No threats to your ability to pay your bills, mortgage, keep food on the table.

Very robust mental health

No complicating factors like other illness/disability/additional needs in your family circle.

Then you need to start acknowledging that privilege and understanding that many other people are in a much worse position than you*

100% agree. but annoyingly, the people in this position never acknowledge it. They just assume everyone else is the same. Its highly ignorant.

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 25/04/2020 19:28

I would support a further lockdown - I am happy to stay at home until a breakthrough is found -

How will you get money? How will everyone get money? Confused

VeryQuaintIrene · 25/04/2020 19:28

My parents are in the UK and in their 80s while I am in the US. Neither is in really good health, in fact my mum may be coming to the end of her life now, and I am really sad at the thought that I might not see them again if this goes on for a really extended time. I agree that we are going to have to live with this virus before it's rooted out and that the effects of extended extreme isolation may in the long run cause much more harm to society as a whole.

midgebabe · 25/04/2020 19:29

I am not assuming that it isn't terrible hard for some people, and harder for some than others

That does not however alter my conclusions.
Because if they are finding it hard now, then the best thing for them is to avoid doing this all over again

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 25/04/2020 19:30

The NHS can't cope in a normal winter

The Nightingale hospital has treated (I believe) 40 CV patients when it has approx 3,000 beds.

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 25/04/2020 19:30

yes i would. Because i want to live longer and protect my family

Are you in the shielding group then? In which case you won't be going anywhere anytime soon regardless of whether or not lockdown is lifted?

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 25/04/2020 19:31

would support a further lockdown - I am happy to stay at home until a breakthrough is found

Who is going to pay for this though?

Answer: it will be our children, and probably grandchildren, and they will be paying long after any of the people 'saved' from CV have long since died of something else.

AmelieTaylor · 25/04/2020 19:32

YEP and we are sitting on a flatter peak than we would have with no lick down, but a higher one than it could have been & the foot of the actual peak if they don't toughen up lockdown!

But too many whinging about missing their Mummy/partner/bestie

Failing to understand that death is permanent!

Wanting to go go to the pub/restaurant/football. 🙄🙄🙄

AvalancheKit · 25/04/2020 19:32

A gradual and measured return to a new normality. But no international flights or boats for 18 months other than goods and essential personnel. This includes celebrities and private jets.
