Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

thegreenlight I don’t want anyone forced into lockdown.

I thought you were saying the vulnerable should be forced to stay in it.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 25/04/2020 19:17

No, I think people who wish to self-isolate for whatever reason should continue to do so, but it has to be voluntary.

The over 70s have historically taken far more than their fair share from the economy, with the younger generations being expected to pay for it.

This can't carry on indefinitely.

drumandthebass · 25/04/2020 19:18

Yes, I would support it

EducatingArti · 25/04/2020 19:19

"Horrible but vital to mention that according to health statisticians 2/3 of people who have died of coronavirus will have died this year anyway of any number of complications to their underlying health issues."
But one third of a huge numbers is still s massive number of additional deaths of people who would not otherwise have died this year.
For example:
40,000÷3= 13,333

VitreousHumour · 25/04/2020 19:19

Argh I hit YANBU but YABU (I mean, I do want an extension to lockdown - we're nowhere near over this)

WombatChocolate · 25/04/2020 19:19

Obviously, I don't WANT to remain in lockdown, but will I accept that those in charge know more about it than me - yes.

I understand that if I start travelling about and return to work and then visit my elderly parents, there is a god chance they could get the virus.

Therefore if government says the risk is still too high, I will accept it, with disappointment, but resolve.

Are people suggesting on here that if it continues when they don't like it continuing, they will not adhere to the rules, but just do their own thing?

Molliemoo10 · 25/04/2020 19:20

I said my opinion wouldn't be popular so there is no need to jump on me FFS.

It's easy for those that are responsibly healthy, late middle age or younger, to say that they want the lockdown lifted.
It's a very different prospect when you are pretty sure should you get it you're going to be very poorly and are very likely to die.
How would my family live with knowing they brought the virus home and killed me? What about my elderly mother who is 98 and in poor health who even shielded would likely catch it should the people looking after her have to get on with life as normal.

I don't know the answers so don't bother asking 'whos going to pay for it' I just really don't want to die and I'm really scared that if this lockdown is lifted without a vaccine I will in all likelihood be dead very quickly.

Those of you laying into me tell me if you knew you would die as a result of this lockdown being lifted would you honestly sacrifice yourself willingly?

Umnoway · 25/04/2020 19:20

Most importantly I’m desperate for a good colour, cut and blowdry and my shellac nails. VERY important

You sound like the confederate flag bearing ‘murican complaining about not being able to get her hair cut. Not a good look.

carly2803 · 25/04/2020 19:20

yes i would. Because i want to live longer and protect my family

I want to see less cases, then open up the country bit by bit. Very slowly, because the numbers WILL rise again and by this point we can handle it (like now).

We are not over the worst enough to open things up. Few more weeks

I would support a further lockdown - I am happy to stay at home until a breakthrough is found - I would actually favour treatment over a vaccine not thoroughly tested. This year is going to be a complete write-off - nothing will change until September at the earliest - Christmas will be very low key (thank goodness). I wonder how our ancestors coped with the Spanish Flu - it would be interesting to read first hand accounts of what actually happened.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 25/04/2020 19:20

@EducatingArti

Your individual risk of dying if you contract Covid-19 is roughly equal to your risk of dying in the next year of something else.

Very few people who died of CV would have lived for very much longer anyway.

ssd · 25/04/2020 19:20

I totally support another lockdown. We must be very careful until we have a vaccine.

AmelieTaylor · 25/04/2020 19:21

Yes I would and it needs to be locked down further. There's still way too much community spread. If we open up too soon we will have wasted a lot of the benefit of the lockdown so far. Doing more now results in a FAR better outcome we NEED that R value WAY down before anything is lifted or we'll be screwed.

NHS is only under utilised because of them
Not admitting people that should be admitted. Don't fool yourself it's all 'in hand'.

winterchills · 25/04/2020 19:21

I would definitely support a further lock down if that's what's required

GoofyLuce · 25/04/2020 19:21

**Are people suggesting on here that if it continues when they don't like it continuing, they will not adhere to the rules, but just do their own thing?

Yes I wondered this 🤔

Umnoway · 25/04/2020 19:21

26k people died from the flu in a year, almost the same amount have died from covid in two months.

We have a vaccination for the flu too so that’s mostly avoidable if people bother to have it.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 25/04/2020 19:22

We must be very careful until we have a vaccine

Why?

DamnYankee · 25/04/2020 19:22

Hell, no. YANBU.

I'm in the US. Our state governor put in place a plan to gradually lift restrictions in place since 3/17. This was supposed to start 4/27. Yesterday our blinkered county officials said we would continue our current restrictions for two more weeks because "they are not prepared."

Duh.

I cried. And wrote angry letters to every single Power That Be I could think of.

And then drank wine.

Asshats. Angry

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 25/04/2020 19:23

People in Spain ARE STILL under very strict lockdown. Nobody is allowed out to exercise. Children up to 14 an go out for one hour a day from tomorrow. Adults can't go out to exercise.

Why do you keep posting this utter garbage

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 25/04/2020 19:23

I do think if you break the rules there should be much harsher fines and no free treatment. It’s done for a reason, not to spoil people’s enjoyment.

crispysausagerolls · 25/04/2020 19:23

@LaurieMarlow

Agree with all your Mosts

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 25/04/2020 19:23

Yes it is. In which case you are free to stay at home for as long as you feel you need?

Polkadotties · 25/04/2020 19:23

I wonder what the CV death numbers would have looked like if we had a really harsh winter and really high flu deaths
