Some people enjoy patronising and depressing others

Clearly everyone is having a different experience of the current situation. It seems to me from the posts here and elsewhere that MN is full of people searching for threads from people either asking genuinely when others think the restrictions may be reduced, or people expressing mental or emotional.distress due to being locked away, sometimes alone. The pattern is the OP posts, there are a couple of sympathetic/in the case of lockdown speculation dovish opinions then the Depressor swoops, usually with a formulation along the lines of:
If you think these restrictions will be lifted anytime soon you are a naïve fool. Christmas will be cancelled and things will never fully return to normal

In the threads expressing mental distress their standard formulation is a variety of:
FFS pull yourselves together. It's been (insert number) weeks, how the F do you think people coped in the war the. All you are being asked to do is stay in and watch Netflix

There seems to be a remarkably large number of people among this cohort who claim grandparental involvement in WW1/2 and have a partner/sibling serving as a front line NHS worker. These depressors seem to scour MN looking to pounce on people expressing povs like the above.

we even let children out!

Do they realise that children in Italy, when let out for the first time, were toot exhausted to walk far. Do they see this? Impact on MH in Italy.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-europe-52400085/coronavirus-lockdown-s-heavy-toll-on-italy-s-mental-health

Is that really what they wish for?

Drivingdownthe101 · 01/05/2020 10:16

Also, if you buy a trampoline you are ensuring that we will be locked down for another six months, minimum

Ah well, at least I can spend that 6 months stewing in my chavvy sex pond, while my children (god forbid) bounce on their trampoline, ensuring that we both irritate the fuck out of our neighbours (we don’t have any!) and ensure that another 10,000 people catch Covid by virtue of us enjoying ourselves.

GoldenOmber · 01/05/2020 10:19

Is that really what they wish for?

Some people genuinely do seem to be wishing for this on the grounds that we’re all too spoilt and pampered anyway.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/05/2020 10:21

I just ordered some eyeshadow from SpaceNK.

Going strait to hell.

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 10:24

Oh, what did you order? I had two lipsticks arrive last week. At least when we go to hell it will be with a face of decent slap.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/05/2020 10:25

The Laura Mercier indigo stick.

What did you get?

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 10:28

Nice. A 3ina shade 123, which is a sheer red and Marc Jacobs Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which was a repurchase. I never go out without lipstick. Even to hell.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/05/2020 10:33

I love a sheer red. Nars used to have great ones, but changed the formulation.

tempnamechange98765 · 01/05/2020 10:36

Haha yes I totally agree OP. No one knows yet what's going to happen. It is shit, and it is varying levels of shit for different people depending on their circumstances: lone parents, people living alone, people with young children, people with SN or children with SN, key workers...the list is huge. It's not easy for ANYONE, but people are entitled to feel like it's hard.

Alsohuman · 01/05/2020 10:38

I recommend the 3ina, it’s a really nice true red and really moisturising. We’d better stop before someone thinks they’re in style and beauty by mistake!

Springersrock · 01/05/2020 11:13

I went to The Range earlier

I needed a big box of cat food as Asda has been out of stock for weeks and The Range is closer than Pets At Home.

I went a bit wild and bought a rug, some big picture frames so I can finally hang up some prints I’ve had kicking around for weeks, a new duvet set and a gazebo. Being in a shop other than a super market went straight to my head

Am I going to hell or will the cat food cancel out the rest?

I did make sure the cat food was on full display in my trolley incase of Daily Mail photographers lurking in the bushes

Drivingdownthe101 · 01/05/2020 11:20

Springersrock you’ve got a cat? Then you’re going straight to hell im afraid. Don’t you know cats transfer Covid on their fur and KILL PEOPLE?!

Teateaandmoretea · 01/05/2020 11:27

You have to remember that everyone is better than us, in the mind of a dementor. France/spain/Italy have apparently tolerated the stricter lockdown without a word of complaint or a single ‘flout’ of the rules because they are more compliant and law abiding and they actually care that PEOPLE ARE DYING. Scandinavians don’t need lockdown because they are civilised and responsible and they care that PEOPLE ARE DYING. Us? We are irresponsible, selfish and we do not care that PEOPLE ARE DYING. That’s just the way it is

It isn’t just this though some posters go on about heavenly it is in Europe. The people are all slimmer, more family orientated, speak lots of languages etc —well apart from the french who all smoke like chimneys and the Germans who live on processed meat and beer—

DianneWhatcock · 01/05/2020 11:35

I had someone on fb post an outraged rant about how she was "at B&M stores and omg can't believe how many fucking idiots are here"

With no irony Completely missing the fact that she was there too

I despair 😩

Drivingdownthe101 · 01/05/2020 11:41

Yes true Teateaandmoretea. My IL’s are Spanish, MIL and SIL are both overweight, drink far too much wine and SIL smokes 20 a day! They do speak a few languages, but I’m English and speak French, Italian and Spanish 🤷🏻‍♀️.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 01/05/2020 11:41

DianneWhatcock

They're great aren't they? It's just like Christmas in the Asda queue "well you'd think people would know Christmas was coming and plan better instead of leaving it to the last minute it's ridiculous", said to me in the queue Dec 19th.

everythingisginandroses · 01/05/2020 11:48

@Unworthie

You forgot that as TAX PAYERS they're paying for it too because many of the lower orders are in jobs that have been furloughed like hospitality and should be out picking fruit or something because it's simply unacceptable that people like that get some help and support. THEY SHOULD HAVE WORKED HARDER.

Ah yes, the Gradgrind Dementors who want us all to Get Back To Work Now, and Stop Shirking, they are fucking unbearable too. There's one on another thread today talking about 'low lifes' with 'their grubby hands out for money' Hmm

They can't stand it that someone like me who works in a call centre can actually pick up a decent salary, not National Minimum Wage, for sitting on my arse at home doing my job instead of hauling said arse onto filthy, crowded commuter trains and into a massive building full of open-plan offices. I just want these twats to know that sometimes I work in my pink silk dressing gown, I listen to music when it's quiet AND I might open a beer before my shift ends tonight, and my boss won't know. And god no, don't get them started on those furloughed retail/hospitality worker plebs: they should all be getting jobs at Tesco/picking fruit/going out and taking one for the Herd Immunity Team, there's no excuse for their idleness.

Drivingdownthe101 · 01/05/2020 11:51

everythingisginandroses no you’re probably ok because you’re still paying your taxes, and therefore paying nurses salaries. It’s those nasty furloughed people getting something for nothing that they’re so outraged at.

Springersrock · 01/05/2020 11:52

France/spain/Italy have apparently tolerated the stricter lockdown without a word of complaint or a single ‘flout’ of the rules because they are more compliant and law abiding and they actually care that PEOPLE ARE DYING

My boss is French - just as many people in France are moaning like fuck and trying to come up with ways to get round the lockdown as there are here. At one point her family were lending out their dog to the neighbours so they could get out for a walk.

As for all the French-chic fashion threads - I remember reading one one day and nearly choked when my boss walked into the office wearing mad stripey dungarees, crocs and a pink sequinned blazer

Orangeblossom78 · 01/05/2020 11:53

To the PP mentioning imagine living with one, yes there have been some posts on this, sounds grim, for example

Orangeblossom78 · 01/05/2020 11:54

They've had lots of riots and violence in Paris I understand.

Drivingdownthe101 · 01/05/2020 11:55

Springersrock yeah I’ve spent a few years living in France, Italy and Spain, so have loads of friends (and some family) in all three countries. I can confidently state that they are people just like us! Some abiding by the lockdown happily, some doing it but moaning, some ignoring it and seeing family and friends etc.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 01/05/2020 11:55

What the "I'M PAYING MY TAXES FOR YOU TO ENJOY YOUR FURLOUGH....PICK SOME FRUIT!!" brigade fail to realise that I'm paying tax on my 80% wage as well so they can pick their own bloody fruit.

Orangeblossom78 · 01/05/2020 11:55

Monday
It’s outrageous that there are so many people in the park! I only came here because I thought they wouldn’t be. It’s so selfish of them! I think I might take a photo of them in the park, and put it on social media to show how shocked I am at there being so many people in the park. While I, myself, am also in the park.

Also, the way they jump out of the way when I walk past! It’s offensive. Do I look infectious? Although the ones who don’t are even worse. Don’t they know we’re all supposed to be socially distancing? Honestly, I wonder if these people know that they’re only supposed to be here for exercise? Some of them are sitting down and having picnics. That’s really bad. Not least because it means that there is no room for me to do the same.
