To Think That The Number One Song Is Awful?!

I think Captain Tom is an inspiration & the amount of money he’s raised is phenomenal. However, the song with Michael Ball is really not good. It would be ok if Tom could sing but he can’t & he’s not even in sync with Michael. It will probably make a great deal more money, which is great, but enough is enough.

Hi @loreleigilmore28, if that question is directed at me then let me tell you of all the Eurovision, very real nightmares that I have awoken from , screaming blue bloody murder at this man's song efforts. Horrific!!
But good job at raising that much money for a very worthy cause 👍👏.

We'll it's a great song when it's sung at football matches (by lots of people who can't sing). I agree that this isn't a great version but that isn't what it's about.

I also think that Michael Ball was quick to jump on the bandwagon but at least the money is going to a good cause.

Captain Tom is lovely, yes, his singing voice isn't great. My dad was always singing and had a lovely voice. I wish I had a recording of him singing now that he is no longer alive. Captain Tom's children will have a lovely reminder of his voice.

@Sostenueto All of which is true but isn't the song under discussion. So people saying it isn't a war song and it is associated with Liverpool FC are correct.

Sostenueto · 27/04/2020 07:21

No they are not correct it was a song written in 1939 for the troops and their families as they went off to war. The fact it was adopted after a football disaster just shows how this song is apt for many situations including the lockdown. If you had listened to the queens speech she evoked this song in her words of we will meet again when she was talking about the separation of families in lockdown. It is an inspirational song which has stood the test if time. I don't mind who adopts it whether it's a football stadium full if people or a song to raise money for charities. But get the history of the song right and respect the efforts people put in to raise money for charities no matter what your musical tastes.

No, because you are talking about the wrong song! Your facts are all correct about We'll Meet Again but the song in question is You'll Never Walk Alone. Nobody has claimed that We'll Meet Again is not a war song or that it has football associations.

You are not the only poster to have been confused. I got it completely wrong and thought we were talking about Space Oddity.

NigellasGuest · 27/04/2020 07:32

I didnt know it had anything to do with Liverpool, anyone can sing a song that's been around for ages, one group of people cant just say it is theirs. I'm referring to You'll Never Walk Alone, not We'll Meet Again because that's the song in question. Some posters are referring to the wrong song.
