To Think That The Number One Song Is Awful?!

I think Captain Tom is an inspiration & the amount of money he’s raised is phenomenal. However, the song with Michael Ball is really not good. It would be ok if Tom could sing but he can’t & he’s not even in sync with Michael. It will probably make a great deal more money, which is great, but enough is enough.

Yanbu it’s a crime against music

UnderTheIroningBoard · 24/04/2020 23:14

I think most charity singles are shite, to be honest. But at least the money is going to a good cause, so it's fine.

Difficultcustomer · 24/04/2020 23:19

@Nanny0gg

The money is going to NHS Charities together urgent appeal and will be used for things like wellbeing packs or tablets so that Covid patients can get in touch with relatives. It will not be used for PPE/ventilators. I was surprised about the ppe so I went on their website

  1. Shouldn’t these funds be used to equip NHS staff and volunteers with the medical equipment they need to do their job, such as ventilators and PPE?
The money raised through the appeal is currently focused on funding grants to help NHS charities support the health and emotional wellbeing of NHS staff, volunteer and patients in ways above and beyond that which NHS funding can usually provide. Elements such as PPE or ventilators are part of the core operation of the NHS and are ordinarily funded by government. Each NHS charity is there to support their NHS trust or health board and to respond to what they and their staff, volunteers and patients need on an ongoing basis. As this crisis develops, there is no doubt those needs will change and NHS charities will continue to respond to that and try to meet those needs. Currently, the focus of our member charities is on the immediate and long term needs of staff, volunteers and patients outside of core care and treatment, including setting up comfortable places where they can take a much-needed rest, giving them nutritious meals and drinks, offering mental health support, and helping staff and the patients themselves to stay in touch with their loved ones

Who cares though? He's a legend and its making money. I bought but haven't listened to it, no idea about Tom's voice, but I dont like the other guy (as an artist).

Sostenueto · 25/04/2020 19:52

How many criticising the song and Captain Moore's singing has done anything at all to help in this crisis? The man is a 100 years old this following week. He deserves another medal to go along with his WW2 medals. He has more pluck, thought for others and thankfulness for those that cared for him then anyone on MN.

redcarbluecar · 25/04/2020 19:55

Not even heard it and I’m still saying YANBU

Sostenueto · 25/04/2020 19:56

Hope some of it is used to sue the government for loss of Frontline lives due to lack of PPE especially as Matt Hancock said this evening there's no proof those that died caught Covid while working. Bloody moron that he is!

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 25/04/2020 19:57

Charity Songs are always the worst.

They might have raised more if they'd promised not to release it unless we paid up.

BubblyBarbara · 25/04/2020 20:05

Why didn’t they do We’ll Meet Again, more uplifting and he could have done it with Vera Lynn

BubblyBarbara · 25/04/2020 20:06

I also finally signed up for a you tube account to dislike the video because of all the smart Alec comments on there

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/04/2020 02:17

You signed up for a youtube account just to dislike the video and basically do a thumb to nose ner ner to comments you don't like?
Ooookay lol

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/04/2020 02:18

@redcarbluecar
Not even heard it and I’m still saying YANBU

Sounds about right for MN lately lol

beebeedandelion · 26/04/2020 05:30

It's dire.

Ineedabreak19 · 26/04/2020 05:59

It's the only way Michael Ball could top the UK singles chart with a no 1 hit.

Sorry I have no love for Michael Ball mainly because my university flat mate used to listen to him 24/7 very loudly. I can't bear the sound of his voice now, it stresses me out.

Ineedabreak19 · 26/04/2020 06:02

However, I will buy the single as it's raising funds for the NHS even though I have an aversion to Michael Ball. Captain Tom is a grand fella so no complaints there.

EricaNernie · 26/04/2020 06:07

i am shocked at so many people agreeing.
you dont have to listen.
it is the sentiment

wonkytonkwoman · 26/04/2020 06:08

@EmpressMcSchnozzle

And ain't that the truth.

EricaNernie · 26/04/2020 06:10

It is appropriate because he walked,
it was his wish to sing

Lilmisskittykat · 26/04/2020 06:22

@Sostenueto I thought it was written for the musical carousel in the 60s - nothing to do with the war at all.

You've made me curious now.

Great song in the musical, moving when you stand in anfield and hear the kop sing it - but captain Tom and Michael ball ...
Only managed half.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 26/04/2020 06:25

Oh, Jesus. Is this how jaded everyone has become?

It would be ok if Tom could sing but he can’t & he’s not even in sync with Michael.

Seriously?

Raise a bit of money and make some people smile. What's the harm?

This lockdown is really bringing out a shitty side of people.

And yes I do sound like a sanctimonious wanker but I don't care. :o

AlternativePerspective · 26/04/2020 06:35

On here it really doesn’t matter what someone achieves there is always a load of miserable fuckers to put a negative stance on it.

It’s the sentiment behind it, or are people really that short sighted?

And let’s be honest, most of what’s in the charts is shite, but the difference is that the rest of them do it to make yet more money to add to the millions most of them are already worth...

LynetteScavo · 26/04/2020 06:47

It's bloody awful.

LynetteScavo · 26/04/2020 06:49

My next door neighbour loves it though, and described it as "incredibly moving". Luckily He doesn't ever play music in his back garden.

Lunawuna · 26/04/2020 07:26

Yanbu. I cannot stand Ball, and all he’s doing is leeching on to an old man who has managed to achieve a level of fame/popularity that he could never achieve with his shite singing, and then saying “oh it’s for charidee” to try and make his self promotion ok.

Mucklowe · 26/04/2020 08:42

It's propaganda, pure and simple.
