Are you going out for walks during lock down?

I haven't been out for a walk in almost 4 weeks, I'm so worried about it so I have stayed in with DD 2 years old but im wondering if I'm being silly and if I should go out for a walk a day?

I have a 12 week old baby + a 4 year old pre-schooler + a dog.

I go for a 60-75 min walk/run in the woods EVERY single day, mostly the dog and me early morning after I feed baby and she naps - or - if that boat is missed - late afternoon when the baby is grizzly - I take baby son and dog. But I have not missed this one single day. It’s tje reason I am surviving the postnatal period in a pandemic. I wouldn’t cope otherwise. I cannot imagine why - someone not actively shielding - is not doing the same if they have access/ability to access open soaves

HaddawayAndShite · 24/04/2020 16:01

Nope. But I have a big garden where I can get lots of fresh air, vitamin d and exercise that seems to be the holy grail on here.

I wouldn’t judge if others didn’t leave the house though, we all get our energy from difference sources and I often need several days indoors alone to recharge.

Thefaceofboe · 24/04/2020 16:01

We go every other day apart 5 miles

ememem84 · 24/04/2020 16:02

Yep. Took ds (2.5) out for a walk this morning. We/I walked 6km. Ds walked for a bit through the woods but we were mostly in the pram. Dd (8m) has been coming out with us too some days. But she stayed home today to help dh in the garden aka sit in her junperoo while he did some digging and then had an outdoors nap in the teepee (in her footmuff from the pram with a hat on...just before anyone judges).

OccasionalNachos · 24/04/2020 16:07

@Xiddling I live in the suburbs and it’s not that busy - I don’t see anyone or touch anything. It’s a risk I’m willing to take to safeguard my mental health & my son’s need to sleep. Hopefully it’s a short stage of refusing to nap anywhere but the pram or sling.

SuitedandBooted · 24/04/2020 16:09

Yes, I walk 3 times a day.

Early dog walk up hill and down dale for over an hour
Evening walk with the family and dog
Late night final short dog walk

I've done this every day for years. I live in a rural area, so no problems at all with social distancing.

NoMoreDickheads · 24/04/2020 16:12

Yes there's nothing wrong with taking exercise, it doesn't put anyone at risk. It'll be good for your mental health, and also physical health due to the benefits of exercise to the whole body and to vitamin D levels.

AnnPerkins · 24/04/2020 16:13

I run every other day and take the puppy out for 30 mins every afternoon but I live in the countryside so it's easy to avoid other people.

It would be good for you and your DD to get out every day, especially in this sunny weather. It will benefit you both mentally and physically. When DS was 2 I had to get out with him every day, and that was in normal times.

Alsohuman · 24/04/2020 16:25

I take the dog out every day, my mental health would be in the gutter if I didn’t. It’s beautiful, the weather’s been glorious, the trees are in blossom, the birds are singing. My daily walk is a complete tonic.

gluteustothemaximus · 24/04/2020 16:27

Nope. Not been out at all. Mental health is fine. Am very busy with 3 kids, working, home schooling, cooking, cleaning. Sit in the garden for gettimg out, am very lucky to have one.

beebeedandelion · 24/04/2020 16:40

A few posters have said they go out more than once a day for their exercise. I thought the rules were 'one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle

So you can run twice a day but not run once and cycle was if that's the rules.

P0lka · 24/04/2020 16:42

I'm walking around 6 miles, and cycling 20-40 miles on alternate days. Had about a week where I felt too depressed to do anything, but feeling good now I'm back in a routine

TowerRingInferno · 24/04/2020 16:45

Yes, every single day. Highlight of my day too.

OneandTwenty · 24/04/2020 16:45

My kids - and I - would go nuts if we didn't exercise a little bit, so as long as we can, we do. We went on a 3 hour outing a few times this week, the weather is glorious, and we are lucky to have access to quiet areas.

We could stick to the garden, but as we don't have to at the moment, we keep going out.

I am not sure why I would judge anyone else who stays home though Confused, not only it doesn't affect me negatively, but it means there are less people around for us.

Now that it has been made clear that you can drive to "exercise" Hmm, I have noticed a lot more cars around.

Womenwotlunch · 24/04/2020 16:47

I walk six - eight miles a day ( five times a week)
Love it

Mustbetimeforachange · 24/04/2020 16:47

Yes every day. But we live in the countryside & saw no-one else today. DH is shielding but he comes too (with the blessing of his consultant). The chances of him catching it in the deserted fields & woods is zero.

viques · 24/04/2020 16:48

Just come back from a local park which has a huge wooded area carpeted in bluebells. They looked amazing, even though they are going over a bit now, and the smell is incredible. Huge Thankyou to the volunteers who keep the brambles cut back so the bluebells aren't swamped , and make sure the paths are clearly marked by logs so idiots (yes you stupid woman, stupid man and your uncontrolled children) don't walk on the plants. Lots of people around but it's an enormous park so plenty of room for everyone, (even stupid people) Grin

PumpkinP · 24/04/2020 16:48

No, I’m another that lives on a housing estate so I don’t really enjoy walking around the houses. I don’t get anything out of it and don’t feel better for it. Also dd hates going and screams and cry’s the entire time so not bothering anymore. We’ve been out once in 4 weeks.

Iooselipssinkships · 24/04/2020 16:49

DH (well supposed to be in August) myself and our two kids go out for a walk an hour each day at the very local park and cover 3 miles. We wear masks, more so in case one of us is asymptomatic and we stay 2 metres away from anyone we pass.
Bizarrely I'm more active now than I was before this started.

OneandTwenty · 24/04/2020 16:51

I can't complain because we do have direct access to beautiful countryside and woods, but I am a bit jealous of people who have access to endless beaches! I see lots of photos of my friends on their days out, and they are having beautiful days.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/04/2020 16:51

Of course. I have no garden, I'm not staying inside until the end of lockdown. I either walk to the local park with 6yo DS, or we walk to the supermarket for our shopping.

Megan2018 · 24/04/2020 16:52

Sort of. I have to go and look after my horse on a farm, some days I take her for a walk (she has a metabolic condition and arthritis so needs some exercise), if I don’t take her out then I walk with my baby. Very occasionally I have done both (we live very rurally though).
If you live somewhere heavily populated I'd stay home, I am fortunate to rarely see anyone where I live.

SunshineGarden19283 · 24/04/2020 16:52

If you have no health issues

You are allowed one hour exercise per day, walk, cycle or run

Or to go to the shop for essentials like food

I've been out, but not every day

Keeping 6 feet away from everyone
