I haven't been out for a walk in almost 4 weeks, I'm so worried about it so I have stayed in with DD 2 years old but im wondering if I'm being silly and if I should go out for a walk a day?

OP posts:

A daily walk to a park/green area will do you both well. Everyone seems to be respecting social distancing and wearing masks so if you're really worried you could take those precautions (or use a scarf) take some anti-bac gel and enjoy the fresh air. Good luck.

bumblingbovine49 · 24/04/2020 15:29

No not every day but.it.is quite crowded around here unless.you go at about 6am and I can't always manage that. I do some excercise at home most days though and do go in the garden for sunshine

tmh88 · 24/04/2020 15:30

I have been going for a walk everyday with DS 2, haven’t past couple of days because I get horrific hay fever most years and it’s really bad this year I look dreadful and I’m paranoid I’ll get told off in public for being out Blush

Holidayaddict · 24/04/2020 15:32

I go out for long walks at the weekends. Tend not to mid week as I'm really busy working from home and, luckily, my usual exercise class has gone online, so I do that every day.

I really don't understand these people who are so proud of the fact that they've not left the house for no good reason and post endlessly about it on social media Hmm

namechangenumber2 · 24/04/2020 15:32

We've been out for a walk most days - we have a dog so she requires it. I missed one day last week as I felt a bit off - so stayed in just in case

monkeytennis97 · 24/04/2020 15:34

I last went out for a walk about 4 weeks ago but been in the garden and been on my treadmill every day. My mental health is not great and the thought of seeing other people at the moment fills me with fear.

TroysMammy · 24/04/2020 15:34

No. I don't like exercise at the best of times and my idea of a walk is pushing a trolley around a shop, which obviously I can't do now.

I've been busy in the garden preparing veg beds and pottering in the greenhouse for my exercise.

Bluesheep8 · 24/04/2020 15:37

Yes of course. Every day. You should too, OP Smile

AngryPrincess · 24/04/2020 15:39

I think it will be great for you (and DD if that works) to get out. You will be much happier and Vitamin D, (free from the Sun), strengthens the immune system.

AngryPrincess · 24/04/2020 15:41

Forgot to answer question. Yes I’m going out for either a long walk or a short run every day. Might add cycling to the mix next week.

Picklypickles · 24/04/2020 15:42

I've not been out every day, I've been keeping quite busy and active at home with lots of spring cleaning and tidying up the garden. It's lovely to get outside when its sunny but it does worry me a bit, we live on the moors and every way we go involves gates to open and the few times we have been out there have been stupid people. Cyclists coming far too close to us when there was absolutely no need for it, the other day there was a family all wearing face masks with their dog off the lead running to us, which they couldn't recall and had to physically retrieve from right next to us. I also got stopped for directions by a lost delivery driver, so even in the middle of nowhere finding other people can't bloody leave me alone!

IamaBluebird · 24/04/2020 15:43

I go for a walk every evening. We can only go once a day in Wales, not sure why this particular rule differs from England but there you go.

Xiddling · 24/04/2020 15:44

A few posters have said they go out more than once a day for their exercise. I thought the rules were 'one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household'. Have the rules changed?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 24/04/2020 15:45

Most days. It's hard because I have zero motivation for anything and if I lived alone probably wouldn't get out of bed. We live by the sea and the kids love climbing over the rocks, throwing stones into the sea and looking at the crabs/shells. Because it's not a proper beach, it's also very quiet.

Thinkingabout1t · 24/04/2020 15:47

Do go out and enjoy this lovely weather with your little girl, OP. It will do you both good. You'll be fine as long as you keep 2 metres away from other people. Most people know this and keep a sensible distance.

WorraLiberty · 24/04/2020 15:49

It's quite alarming the amount of MNetters who are not shielding and have no health conditions, and yet are not taking their kids outside of the house and garden (if they have one), for some exercise and a change of scenery.

Pre virus this would've been seen as a dreadful thing to do to kids.

I'd go stir-crazy as an adult, it must be far worse for children.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 24/04/2020 15:49

I'm still working :) I've restarted c25k so every other day I also go for a run. At weekends and evenings and last week when I was on leave, yes, I went out for a walk every day. I would find it very, very hard to stay in entirely for more than a few days.

sucha · 24/04/2020 15:49

Yes every day

Quarantimespringclean · 24/04/2020 15:50

I don’t walk outside because I get bored. I potter about the garden for fresh air and rely on walking on the spot in front of the tv to bring my step count to over 10k per day.

Sindragosan · 24/04/2020 15:51

Every day, usually first thing in the morning, hardly anyone around and very peaceful with the birds chirping.

MasterBruceBalloon · 24/04/2020 15:53

Even if you have to put your little one in her buggy - the fresh air is good for her.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 24/04/2020 15:54

God yes, we're lucky to have loads of beautiful walks on our doorstep so we head out for about an hour every lunchtime. I feel miles better for it, mentally and physically. I suspect you will, too, especially thanks to this lovely sunshine we've been having.

TheGinGenie · 24/04/2020 15:54

Go if you want to, don't go if you don't want to. I go about once a week and I'm fine but I'm also lazy and not overly anxious. No-one needs to go out every single day (I didn't before this) but if it's helpful to you to do so, then do Smile

WanderingMilly · 24/04/2020 15:56

Of course you need to get out every day. A walk is allowed, the fresh air will do you good and certainly your little one some good. Take her in the buggy but let her walk some of the way, even if a small amount. It isn't good to stay indoors day after day after day.

I know it's harder if you live in a built up area rather than the countryside but it's possible. Make sure you wash your hands when you come back, of course, but do get out....

Peanutbutteryogurt · 24/04/2020 15:56

Yes. I have an 18 month old who I think needs to get out every day. If it weren't for her I'd happily not bother. Amazed you can keep a 2 year old busy all day without a walk.
