A bottle a night too much?

brassers · 23/04/2020 12:51

Just that. It has become a habit since lockdown. A bottle of wine over the course of the evening 4-5 nights per week.
AIBU to think it's too much?

OP posts:
Thurmanmurman · 23/04/2020 14:44

It's too much but I'm not judging as I was doing the same and then had to have a word with myself. It's very easily done.

VeryQuaintIrene · 23/04/2020 14:44

It's a lot, and I say this as someone who loves wine. I have found NA beer to be a godsend (I massively cut down drinking for Lent and have remained vigilant over my consumption, since I definitely have tendencies towards bottle a night territory), and perhaps there is something similar in the wine department that others could advise you on?

Wiaa · 23/04/2020 14:50

Yes it's too much, but so is the amount me and dh have been drinking lately so cheers WineGrin

tinkywinkyshandbag · 23/04/2020 15:04

Gosh all the dramatic people saying that's a huge amount...like others have said it's probably not optimal but it is very easily done. We're restricting drinking to the weekend but it's funny how Thursday evening is now part of the weekend and often so is Sunday! Our strategy is not to buy ahead, only buy on the day. If it's in the wine rack or the fridge it's harder to ignore.

edwinbear · 23/04/2020 15:07

That's 750 calories extra a night OP......

Hoggleludo · 23/04/2020 15:08

@Disquieted1

If they knew. They wouldn't be asking would they!!! The EXACT point of there op!

Buddyelf · 23/04/2020 15:10

I don’t think it’s a huge amount, but I would say too much. It’s a lot of calories and cost as well. If you could keep it to having a couple of bottles over the weekend I would say that’s fine.
Having said all that I’m a total light weight and a bottle of wine a night would kill me Wink

SallyWD · 23/04/2020 15:11

Why do people keep saying "Easily done" like that makes it OK?

Bunnyfuller · 23/04/2020 15:15

Too doable at the moment, I feel your pain op.

Yes it’s too much, we know that. I too have a horrible issue going on and yes I have used alcohol to be able to relax sometimes. It’s my stress go to, unfortunately 🙈

MrsJBaptiste · 23/04/2020 15:17

Have ice cream, cake or chocolate instead. Far nicer! It really isn't!

Rafflesway · 23/04/2020 15:17

Health wise/diet wise - yes!

Enjoyment wise - absolutely not! 😂

MsTSwift · 23/04/2020 15:18

What I do is not drink in the week just fri - sun also means your tolerance reduces

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 23/04/2020 15:21

It’s the ritual, the marking of “me time”, it’s nice

I’ve been there and it was not my healthiest time, somehow managed to train myself to believe that a bath or shower, followed by a large cup of decaf and a chocolate bar was just as nice Grin

TheOrigBrave · 23/04/2020 15:21

Are you going out every day then?

EdwynCollins · 23/04/2020 15:24

I have an 85 year old friend who drinks a bottle a night. Go for it I say
If you are not over 80 I'd take it more steady

RyanStartedTheFire · 23/04/2020 15:42

I honestly could not imagine drinking a bottle of wine every day. Yes, it's too much. People saying it's easily done - is it really? I don't drink at home but my family are functioning alcoholics so it does colour my view.

CandyLeBonBon · 23/04/2020 15:42

No one is saying it's Ok Sally. People are just saying it's easily done but probably a good idea to be a bit more mindful.

WhyCantIthinkOfAgoodOne · 23/04/2020 15:43

Why do people keep saying "Easily done" like that makes it OK?

They're not saying it makes it healthy they're just empathising that in the current situation it's easy to slip into bad habits. You can say that's something not a good idea while acknowledging that it doesn't make OP crazy for having started the habbit.

SirGawain · 23/04/2020 15:46

At first that will get you completely trollied but once you get used to it you will be able to handle it perfectly well.
Possibly but OPs liver won't.

MimiLaRue · 23/04/2020 15:46

I always find anecdotes like this bemusing. I know 80 year olds who smoke 40 a day, never used to wear seatbelts when driving and did a whole number of unhealthy things that now are considered risks. Does that mean we should all smoke 40 a day and never wear a seat belt then?

Mistystar99 · 23/04/2020 15:50

Not too much given lockdown!

Goatinthegarden · 23/04/2020 15:52

Far too much....no judgement, it’s easily done.

The calories alone are really bad for you...alcohol not only affects your liver, but you’ll be sleeping badly and it’s a depressant and will affect your mood over time.

milienhaus · 23/04/2020 15:53

Obviously you know it’s loads - quite surprised by how many PPs are saying it’s easily done during lockdown! I would feel constantly sick if I drank every day.

CanIbesomeoneelse · 23/04/2020 15:56

@brassers so easy to do. I’ve been getting through about 5 bottles a week over the last 3 weeks. Prior to this, if I had a run of 3 bottles a week for a while I was getting worried. Standards have dropped though. I have 1/2 a bottle left and then I won’t be buying any more :(

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/04/2020 16:00

Yes, too much.

I don't drink wine but I've limited my alcohol consumption to Fridays and Saturdays only, in the current situation it's easy to just drink out of boredom or for a "treat" as there's not much else we're allowed to do.
