To ask if anyone knows when Sainsbury’s will have delivery slots available?

Not strictly an aibu but just want to use the mumsnet hive mind. Does anyone know when Sainsbury’s will have delivery slots available for non vulnerable people. I keep on logging on and getting the same message

Another case of postcode lottery unfortunately.

Supermarkets are working very hard, but the existing set-up pre-pandemic and the amount of clients varies. Where I live, slots come at random times and only for the next 2 or 3 days at most.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 23/04/2020 10:10

I get a delivery every week (was originally allocated) slots are randomly captured! The delivery man told me they started with vulnerable, then over 70s but now are accepting people with a history of shopping with them before the virus. My friend missed out by not having used a nectar card so had no proof she shopped there

ZezetteEpouseX · 23/04/2020 10:11

you can understand the reasoning, without people who have been paying for deliveries for years, the set up wouldn't even exist.

soapboxqueen · 23/04/2020 10:14

As others have said, it's a postcode lottery. While I've had to be vigilant and keep checking when slots become available, I've not really struggled to get slots.

I've tried to opt for click and collect, even though I pay for a delivery pass, but the collect slots are much harder to come by than the delivery ones.

soapboxqueen · 23/04/2020 10:16

Just for clarity we aren't vulnerable, though won't be able to get to the shops once by husband does back to work.

I am a regular* shopper at sainsburys though

*I practically live there

Mistletorpor · 23/04/2020 10:18

I can’t even get one for my mum who’s on the very vulnerable list. We had more luck with Ocado - logged on and randomly got a slot.
She’s shopped at Sainsbury’s her whole adult life and cannot understand why she can’t get shopping. Every time I call or log on I get told no slots available.

TheGreatWave · 23/04/2020 10:21

I think they are giving next priority to delivery pass holders, I have managed to get regular slots, however seem to be really struggling at the moment.

They do appear at various points during the day though.

Nothing for click and collect, but I am not sure they have the system in place for that really, so maybe quietly dropped.

gingercat02 · 23/04/2020 10:22

Ours has click and collect slots available sporadically, I have managed to get one every week, but no delivery slots unless you are on their vulnerable list

Caramel78 · 23/04/2020 10:22

Morrison’s seem to have released lots of slots so might be worth checking them if they deliver to the area you need

Pintsizedblondie197 · 23/04/2020 10:25

I don't shop at Sainsbury's but I have had more luck with Asda, their home delivery slots go on around 10pm so maybe try there? I've also got Tesco slots for mid-May by just checking at random times in the day. Like others have said, it really does seem to be a lottery at the minute.

DontBuyLangClegCashmere · 23/04/2020 10:26

Tesco have also started making slots available but I've only seen them during the night when I'm awake feeding baby.

I assume they're still prioritising the vulnerable then opening the slots up when vulnerable demand has been filled?

I also assume if they're available it's OK to use them, I haven't been using them this month but now mid May is available I have booked a slot (weekly delivery plan customer, been using it for over 5 years).

Blondiney · 23/04/2020 10:27

Forget the myth of midnight slot releases, that never worked for me. I've had more success logging on early in the morning and at random times in the afternoon. Good luck!

ScarfLadysBag · 23/04/2020 10:30

Tesco have started showing an extra week ahead for delivery pass customers, so it seems that now the initial wave is over, they are going back to try to prioritise existing customers (or existing customers who have paid for the delivery pass).

DingDongDenny · 23/04/2020 10:30

If you aren't a vulnerable person then I don't think you should be booking a delivery. Leave them for the people who need them

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/04/2020 10:37

I think it's very postcode specific, we're managing to get them weekly but we are delivery pass holders. Ours seems to periodically be vulnerable only - I think they release a weeks worth to vulnerable, give them a chance to book then expand to passholders (and maybe others) a couple of days later.

PineappleDanish · 23/04/2020 10:43

Really... how do you expect randomers on MN to know this?

Dishwashersaurous · 23/04/2020 11:05

I have shopped with them every week for ten years.

I was hoping that someone who works for Sainsbury’s might be able to share

DGRossetti · 23/04/2020 11:10

We've given up, and just visit once a week. In theory DW is in the vulnerable group, but there's no way to actually let them know, so it's out for us !.

Propagandalf · 23/04/2020 12:02

I get the impression that Asda is handling this crisis better than Tesco.

Been with Tesco since the early 2000s, weekly deliveries / delivery pass. Come March 2020, and they tell you to stuff off. Customer loyalty doesn't exist. Signed up to Asda, brand new customer in March 2020 and I've already managed 4 deliveries! When this is over, I'm going to sack Tesco off and stick with Asda.

Sh05 · 23/04/2020 12:12

I was sent this by a friend recently haven't tried it but it may be helpful:
shoppingslot.co.uk/
Apparently if you put in your postcode it will show you available slots from local supermarkets

TheLightGetsIn · 23/04/2020 12:13

Oh, is it postcode specific?! I'm a pre-existing Sainsbury's customer and keep trying to book a delivery for elderly parents hundreds of miles away, but just get the "sorry, we haven't identified you as vulnerable" message asking you to go a physical store instead. I assumed they literally weren't taking any orders at all for anyone not listed in their system as vulnerable, as some sort of nationwide policy. So worth keeping on trying then?

soapboxqueen · 23/04/2020 12:48

TheLight I think it's very much about capacity locally. In the area I live in we are very well served for supermarkets. I've lived in areas where this was less the case. We also have many local wholesalers doing deliveries etc which will reduce the load on supermarkets and not a particularly dense population so its easier to get slots.

That won't be the case for other areas and those supermarket hubs will have to reduce their capacity for the general population accordingly.

RainMustFall · 23/04/2020 13:53

I'm not with Sainsburys and not on the Government list but am elderly and physically disabled. I have been having Tesco deliveries pretty much from when they first started and have been able to book a weekly slot - currently have slots booked up to and including 17 May. It does involve some effort but if you're not prepared to do that then it's unlikely you will get a slot.

SophieB100 · 23/04/2020 13:59

I have been using Sainsbury's for about 10 years OP, and had regularly weekly deliveries. I've managed to get two deliveries in the past month, and it was just luck. I got both very early in the morning, and out of the three weeks on delivery dates option, there were 6 available. All the rest had been taken by their priority vulnerables.

It's just a case of checking a lot, and hoping that not all the slots have been allocated to their priority customers. I think now they've got their priority lists better sorted, they will be few and far between for the rest of us. It's fine, I get it. I was just hoping that more slots might be available, but it isn't happening. I've been trying for 9 days to get a slot.

TheGreatWave · 23/04/2020 14:27

Sophie I have noticed that too, I did have one booked for yesterday (booked last week) but I cancelled it at the weekend and nothing has appeared since.
