Is it just me, or is Netflix a bit shit?

I really struggle to find anything to watch.

I know it bases recommendations on viewing history, i blame you DP for your ropey taste in "action" films.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm referring specifically to films rather than series although im not enamoured of its offerings. The tiger king can fuck right off for a start.

Any suggestions to save my lockdown sanity?

I like horror and drama but more spooky and atmospheric than mindless gore fest.

Quite like older films. Found Goodfellas the other week which was good.

Agree with those who have said Netflix is much better for series than films.

But it's very good for those feel-good romcoms I sometimes need to watch. Superb for those, in fact.

SharonasCorona · 21/04/2020 08:56

Are the rom-coms good, though? I'm not so sure. They're very formulaic and 'made for TV'. Quite cringey.

Umnoway · 21/04/2020 08:59

I haven’t had live TV for years, just get by watching Netflix and prime. Not a huge fan of TV anyway tbf. Lots of amazing programmes on Netflix such as Dark, Hannibal, Luther, Stranger Things, The Letdown, Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Peep show.

Unfair to dismiss an entire streaming app.

Umnoway · 21/04/2020 08:59

Russian Doll was also excellent.

What I do is go to a film I liked and look at the "like this" or something bit. So you find films that are what you like. Also, set up different profiles for you and your husband so it can show you things you will like.

Zombiemum1946 · 21/04/2020 09:09

Russian doll
Locke and key
Haunting of hill house

Nottherealslimshady · 21/04/2020 09:11

I mostly watch series, safe, unbelievable, good girls, orphan black are some I've really enjoyed.

The platform I think is a good film, as is bird box. Cant think of any others.

Nottherealslimshady · 21/04/2020 09:13

Oh also, vote for the films you do and dont like. It offers you thumbs up/down

Fluffybutter · 21/04/2020 09:14

Locke and key- spooky, kind of fantasy viewing

yourethecomebackkid · 21/04/2020 09:19

Sometimes if I can’t find anything to watch on Netflix I search for the name of an actor whose work I normally like and something watchable nearly always comes up.

hellsbellsmelons · 21/04/2020 09:23

Stranger Things is good once you get into it.
I'm watching Orphan Black at the moment and that's really good.

Crumb2Everywhere · 21/04/2020 09:24

My teens love it, I prefer Amazon Prime.

We watched The Longshot on Netflix recently about a man falsely accused of murder. That was really good.

bert3400 · 21/04/2020 09:24

Just binged The English Game, written by Julian Fellows. Not scary but atmospheric. Really good

babybunny123 · 21/04/2020 09:25

If you enjoyed Goodfella's, watch The Irishman. Newish film but very very good.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 21/04/2020 09:26

Casino also if you like Goodfellas.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 21/04/2020 09:29

IMO Netflix is shit for films, it's much better for TV series. Amazon Prime is much better for films, we have both.

lemontreebird · 21/04/2020 09:32

It's not on Netflix currently, but I'd recommend the film 'Get Out', if you have a chance to see it.

I agree the key is setting up your own profile. Plus, when I have a few minutes, I go through 'popular on Netflix' or my favourite genres and give the films a thumbs up or down. Because I've done this so often, the recommendations for me are pretty spot-on.
Whereas dh, who can't be bothered doing this, always complains he can't find stuff.

burnoutbabe · 21/04/2020 09:48

i rarely watch films on netflix, bar their made themselves one which are bit hit and miss.

They are good at ROM COMS. sure they are a bit cheesy BUT the only other place that does them is hallmark sort of ones and they are tons better than that - many more are 15 rated rather than channel 5 afternoon showing so more realistic about modern women's lives.

Cinema just doesn't make them anymore - though Long Shot last year with a female running for president was good.

Now tv cinema pass would be much better for films that netflix.

Jezebel101 · 21/04/2020 09:51

Dead Like Me
After Life
Better Call Saul
Breaking Bad
Bloodline
The Stranger
Santa Clarita Diet
The Haunting Of Hill House

Off the top of my head

Netflix doesn't seem to have many films by the likes of Hitchcock, Spielberg, Truffaut, Scorsese, Buñuel, Bergman, Godard, Tarantino et al.
Film buffs will struggle with Netflix.
