This was in my local area, the lad involved is no angel but the officers behaviour is inexcusable.

Local police have issued an apology and are investigating

MadameBee · 20/04/2020 08:30

You would be surprised how many police officers are involved in domestic abuse.

Pastaforall · 20/04/2020 08:32

I think every large organisation has people in it that shouldn’t be there. That doesn’t mean that every police officer is like this there are many hard working compassionate officers, but it’s people like this that shouldn’t be in the job.

BilboBercow · 20/04/2020 08:36

There's no doubt that there are people who join the job for the wrong reasons. I'm hopeful this officer will lose his job as people like this do huge damage to the reputation of the police force, who largely rely on public good will to do their job.

BMW6 · 20/04/2020 08:38

Of course there are some right yobs/bastards/cunts in the Police Force, as there are in ALL occupations/age groups/gender/race/class/religion etc etc etc.

There is no test or evaluation that would identify them before they get the job, so you can only deal with them as appropriate when their inner cunt surfaces.

I am only surprised that you are surprised or shocked, because it is surely obvious?

jimmyjammy001 · 20/04/2020 08:38

Unfortunately the police do not have the powers available to deal with low life's such as this person, people can say what they like to police and be as obstructive as they like without consequences, law needs to change big time

SarahInAccounts · 20/04/2020 08:44

YANBU.

In my experience school bullies join the police so the can bully legally. They love the power. As someone said there is a disproportionate level of domestic violence among male officers.

This is obviously not all police but far too many. My eyes were opened when they raided a neighbour's house and the level of violence and intimidation was frightening.

It was the wrong house. They hadn't even bothered to check. They couldn't wait to get their armour on. Then they didn't want to pay for repairs.

Neighbour eventually got substantial damages, despite their lies, but is a nervous wreck 2 years on. Sometimes he's followed when driving out and about.

Some of them really are bastards. And the ones that aren't look the wrong way far too often.

Obviouspretzel · 20/04/2020 08:46

What the fuck. Does he not realise he is being filmed there?

lightnesspixie · 20/04/2020 08:49

@obviouspretzel that's what I thought 🙄

What the officer did was clearly stupid and wrong; that doesn't remotely mean that anyone else is a 'yob in uniform'.

Everyone can lose their rag. This is an awful time for many. Maybe he's a terrible police officer or maybe aggression from that lad was the state that broke the camel's back.

He should be disciplined and retrained like anyone else who fucks up. Anything else is hysterical.

Sounds like you'd like us all to live in a police state. Maybe get North Korea on your list for holiday ideas.

Dubdubdubtub · 20/04/2020 08:58

Yep of course. Just like in any job some people do it for the wrong reasons. I have meant some bitch nurses in my time who also use their job as a power trip.

User2764689 · 20/04/2020 09:03

Of course there's good and bad in every profession. The difference being that the Police have the power to remove you from your home or the streets and put you in a cell. And maybe assault you as well. 'Reasonable force' dontcha know.

araiwa · 20/04/2020 09:10

Some bad eggs for sure

Also some who constantly deal with the scummiest people doing terrible things and just get fed up.

I bet the civilian in the vid has caused more problems for more people than the copper

User2764689 · 20/04/2020 09:15

I forgot that in all the de-escalation training that Police have there's a bit saying 'if you're fed up, just threaten someone with falsifying evidence and chucking them in a cell for a few hours'

DingDongDenny · 20/04/2020 09:25

The police have to be held to a higher account than other professions, because of the powers they wield.

That officer needs to lose his job

Mucklowe · 20/04/2020 09:27

ACAB.

JorisBonson · 20/04/2020 09:32

Some doctors are sexual predators.

Some musicians are peadophiles.

Some nurses are murderers.

Perfect, voice of reason response Smile

LakieLady · 20/04/2020 09:34

@User2764689, did that replace the section that used to be in there about being mindful of the risk of falls on the steps down to the cells? Grin

The police have wide-ranging powers and officers who abuse them should face the most serious sanctions.

oncemorewithfeelingplease · 20/04/2020 09:37

@whataballbag 👋 I’m local too.

No doubt the member of the public in this vid is known to police however the officer seems to escalate the situation really quickly for no apparent reason.
Apparently the lad has been found so that the police can issue an apology and the matter is being investigated.

oncemorewithfeelingplease · 20/04/2020 09:40

@whataballbag sorry, I’ve just repeated what you said, I think I was too excited to see someone from from here and didn’t get past your first sentence!Grin

atenthofaclue · 20/04/2020 09:47

Some of them really are bastards. And the ones that aren't look the wrong way far too often.

The latter is what really gets to me. There's no point people spouting "not all police" when actually those who abuse their power - and people - aren't held to account, because their colleagues protect them from any consequences.

That is an institutional and cultural problem, nothing to do with "a few bad apples".

User2764689 · 20/04/2020 09:47

"Some doctors are sexual predators.

Some musicians are peadophiles.

Yes of course. But when e.g Drs sexually assault patients people don't come on to threads and say 'well they've got a stressful job and some patients are flirtatious'

Which is the equivalent of what we've already seen on this thread and every thread exposing abusive behaviour by Police.

Buster72 · 20/04/2020 10:13

A 20 sec video with no context or background.
No other job has an expectation of people being rude obstructive threatening or violent towards you.

What do you do when a customer in your work place is rude or threatening?

The job of a police officer is often a slow burn of daily abuse combined with long hours.

To pp there have been murderers sex offenders rapists and thieves in the police and when they are found out No one springs to their defence.

I'm not defending this cop btw his action will be subject rightly so to a disciplinary
