Neighbours and my WIFI

Imrubbishatuserables · 19/04/2020 21:15

Hey!
Straight to point I got a new neighbour in my block of flat a few months ago and she asked for my wifi password to connect her console to so they could watch netflix.. i thought why not.. one other thing connected to it wont harm and she has just moved in.. it's her first home she hasn't had chance to set up her own yet. She then gets a new tv in the last few weeks and connects to my wifi but she has also connected her phone and her mates phone to it as well as they are picking up our google speakers on the network her mate joked they should play songs through my sons one in his room from their phones. So I have no idea how to change the password but would I be unreasonable to turn it off every night at 8PM? Considering we are in lockdown and she cant get her own during this time as they will need to come and connect it up. Previous tenant in that flat never had wifi either.

You are crazy to allow her to use your Wi-Fi and it needs to stop NOW. Her lack of Wi-Fi is not your problem. Figure out how to change the password. It's not difficult.

ThanosSavedMe · 19/04/2020 21:18

Change the password. Are you working froM home now? Can you say that you’re no longer able to share the password due to security issues with work.

TwoStepsAhead34 · 19/04/2020 21:18

They ain't going to get their own WiFi. They are mugging you off lol.
It's easy to change the password. Depends who you are with.
And be ready to say NO if they come knocking that WiFi isn't working.

heartsonacake · 19/04/2020 21:18

You shouldn’t have given it to her in the first place, especially when you don’t even know how to change the password.

It’s not safe to share your WiFi. Learn how to change the password.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/04/2020 21:19

Can you google how to change the password for your WiFi, @Imrubbishatuserables? Or ask here, in the tech section.

Windinmyhair · 19/04/2020 21:19

Google how to change the password.

Change the password.

Or ask them to contribute given lockdown/difficulty getting their own sorted.

Either way - don't let them be cheeky fuckers.

UnfinishedSymphon · 19/04/2020 21:20

Turn it off, change the password and don't give it out to anyone. Hopefully she's not downloading any dodgy!

dementedpixie · 19/04/2020 21:20

I'd google how to change your wifi password and then say yours isnt working so they'll need to sort out their own. Cheeky fuckers!

LetTheCabbagesDie · 19/04/2020 21:20

Definitely turn it off and change the password. Madness that would allow someone to use it in the first place!

UnfinishedSymphon · 19/04/2020 21:20

Oh and Virgin, Sky etc. are still working, I have friends who work for both.

Plus, it's not your problem!

HandfulOfFlowers · 19/04/2020 21:21

Change the password. Find out how to do it, you can probably Google it. If they ask you for the new one, explain that you don't want to share it as you are paying for the service, not them.

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 19/04/2020 21:21

I would look up instructions and change the password. Using your password until she's sorted her own is one thing (although very generous of you - my neighbor once let us use theirs and we bought them flowers and chocs as a thank you) but connecting hundreds of devices is taking the piss.

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 19/04/2020 21:21

Until you change the password just turn it off whenever you're not using it.

ProfessorPollington · 19/04/2020 21:22

Oh dear god change your password as soon as you can. No way I would let a stranger "borrow" WiFi. You will be legally responsible for whatever they download. Change your password asap and tell them to get lost if they have the nerve to complain.

lunar1 · 19/04/2020 21:22

She can pay for WiFi in her phone if she can't get anyone out. Change the password ASAP. That's majorly taking the piss.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/04/2020 21:22

Never share your password!!!
Good idea about saying now you are wfh it’s an issue- change the password

HappyHammy · 19/04/2020 21:22

They are taking the piss. Who is your provider and whst type of computer. We might be able to help but if you go to your provider account it will tell you how to change the password.

Imrubbishatuserables · 19/04/2020 21:23

It's with a company called direct save (cant get sky or bt in the area in live in)

Google how to change your WiFi password and change it tonight. Don’t put up with that shit, if they want internet they can use their phones.

Shoxfordian · 19/04/2020 21:25

Change the password and stop being a mug

chickenyhead · 19/04/2020 21:26

I must admit I think she was a cheeky mare for even asking in the first place. That would have made me suspicious of her motives.

You would be better to change the password than turn it off at 8. People can get spiteful.

I wouldn't want strangers having access to your DC bedroom. That is terrifying.

If you are with virgin there is a connect app which allows you to change passwords or block devices. I use it to switch off DC WiFi sometimes.

dreamingofsun · 19/04/2020 21:26

arent there major security issues with them using your password? I think if they do anything illegal you can get the blame for it, plus it makes it easier for them to access your kit - again security issues. And dont you have a certain allowance you use, wont you go over it? You need to change your password asap.

negomi90 · 19/04/2020 21:27

I don't have wifi, I do have a very good mobile data package which I pretend is wifi (my laptop is currently streaming a movie as we speak).
Change your password (even my phone hotspot has a password).

wavecatcher · 19/04/2020 21:27

Ring your provider they can tell you how to change your password. Your neighbours can still get the internet connected despite lockdown company's are still working.
You're mad to share your password!

forrestgreen · 19/04/2020 21:28
