DD says she needs a chairdrobe because it's gross to put worn clothes in the wardrobe

or into drawers. And I reply if they are clean enough to be worn again they should go in the wardrobe.

I might not practise what I preach but I am right. Aren't I?

And the moths thing is an MN myth.

If that's the case then the pest control company who dealt with our moth problem are MNers, because it was exactly their advice too.

I'm with your daughter, OP. I highly recommend the IKEA RÃ¥grund towel rack chair as an excellent chairdrobe.

ATowelAndAPotato · 19/04/2020 14:28

How about this

I'm washing everything after a single use now as I'm really paranoid about the virus on clothing. Normally, I'd agree with your daughter.

MontysOarlock · 19/04/2020 14:28

We all have a specific small drawer in our wardrobes that are for worn stuff that isn't dirty. ie both my sons get changed after school out of their school uniform. They then put joggers on which they will wear for the rest of the evening. They go in the worn it drawer to be pulled out the next day after school. Or a hoodie that they chuck on over their t shirt, or jeans they have worn for a few hours.

We do not mix clean and worn clothing, anything dirty goes in the wash. I used to regularly check their worn it drawers to make sure that was their first port of call when needing clothing for at home. Now they are teenagers, their beds are made, curtains opened, windows on vent, no floordrobe in either room. They are also boys (I tried to raise them well.) Wink

I may put a cardigan non there as it could be worn again or a bra or slip which has another wear.

What about jeans or skirts? Some things get hung on the outside of my wardrobe

It's ridiculous washing everything after 1 wear particularly with the environmental aspect.

Put clean clothes in a wash basket in her room

Socksey · 19/04/2020 14:41

Put away.... if it will cause stuff in the wardrobe etc to smell, then it's dirty and needs washed.

BeFire · 19/04/2020 14:43

My DD has a rockinghorsedrobe. A literal clothes horse.

CostaRicaCoffee · 19/04/2020 14:46

We've got a joint landing bannisterobe. I hide the stuff away if we have visitors.

CostaRicaCoffee · 19/04/2020 14:48

This has reminded me of going to stay with a French family when i was a (messy) teenager and the mother showing me round the house and apologising for the mess because her daughter had left a skirt on a chair in her (otherwise pristine) bedroom. Smile To me that wasn't mess that was very tidy!

VickyEadieofThigh · 19/04/2020 14:50

I'm with the DD. You're lucky, however, that she's not using the floordrobe.

starfishmummy · 19/04/2020 14:50

Im with a PP. Id usually wear them on consecutive days so they'd just be on the floor chair for one night

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 19/04/2020 14:52

Could she get a clothes rail for them to be hung on. That way they won't get creased and the not 100% clean isn't being put back with the clean stuff.

Can you tell this is what my mum did with me 🤔

TheFredericaQuartet · 19/04/2020 14:57

I'm guessing the words grim or vile are due their appearance on this thread soon

I'm waiting for minging.

This is bonkers.. I leave stuff out because I can't be arsed to hang it up but when I'm feeling motivated and do it wouldnt occur to me to worry about smell or anything. Assuming people shower most days and use deodorant, clothes really are not smelly after a day unless it's v hot or something. Other than knickers I wear most things a minimum of twice before washing them. The 'ick' factor on here about the human body, normal skin and everyday germs is, in my humble opinion very OTT.

NChangeForNoReason · 19/04/2020 14:59

Chairdrobe is better than a floordrobe!!!

BelfryBat · 19/04/2020 15:00

I put once-worn stuff on a hanger on the back of the door. I wouldn't dream of putting it back in the wardrobe because I once worked for a woman who did this and the stink of rancid clothes from her wardrobe was revolting.

NeedAUsernameGenerator · 19/04/2020 15:01

YABU. I only tend to rewear trousers and bras but I wouldn't put them back in the wardrobe in between wears. I don't have space for a chair in my room so I just rewear them on consecutive days like a couple of other posters. My 9 and 10yo DDs don't rewear anything even if they've changed outfit 3 times that day. Sometimes I do put their clothes back in the wardrobe if they've only been worn for an hour to ease the washing requirements!

QuestionMarkNow · 19/04/2020 15:02

Oh I’ve just discovered the wild world of valet stand
Thanks @TheFredericaQuartet. Atm we only have a floor robe

Menora · 19/04/2020 15:05

I just got rid of DD15’s wardrobe as it was completely pointless anymore and taking up space. I bought her an ottoman for storage and she has drawers and a chair

EngagedAgain · 19/04/2020 15:07

I don't put any worn clothes back in drawers or wardrobe. Either go on chair or chest of drawers. OH does tho.

DollyDaydream70 · 19/04/2020 15:12

I put worn but not dirty clothes on hangers and hang them from the curtain pole in my bedroom to 'air', or on the picture rail. I definitely wouldn't put worn items back in the wardrobe.

Ninkanink · 19/04/2020 15:15

People who smell rancid aren’t washing daily, nor washing their clothes properly (if at all), nor changing their clothes daily.

Bluejuicyapple · 19/04/2020 15:19

If the worn clothes risk making other clothes or the wardrobe smell then they should be in the wash:

PleaseStopSayingNewNormal · 19/04/2020 15:21

Your daughter is right. And a few items of clothing draped on a chair just makes a room look "lived in", imo. It's not as though there are piles of stinky laundry on the floor, dirty dishes on every surface, and a bin overflowing with empty crisp packets.

Life's too short to try to keep your bedroom picture-perfect! So many better things you could be doing!

user1487194234 · 19/04/2020 15:26

I very rarely wear things more than once but anything I do I air for a bit before putting back to n wardrobe
