DD says she needs a chairdrobe because it's gross to put worn clothes in the wardrobe

or into drawers. And I reply if they are clean enough to be worn again they should go in the wardrobe.

I might not practise what I preach but I am right. Aren't I?

DH made me get rid of mine when we moved, so now I have a dedicated "purgatory drawer" instead, which works just as well

quirkychick · 19/04/2020 12:55

As others have said, moths! No it's not a myth, as someone who has had a moth infestation you really don't want to encourage it.

Crocky · 19/04/2020 12:55

I hang mine back on coat hangers but put the hangers on the wardrobe door handle. Feels less messy somehow.

Difficultcustomer · 19/04/2020 12:57

Bannister robe here or airing cupboard if guests.

Oakmaiden · 19/04/2020 12:58

I put mine on a hanger on the back of my bedroom door.

Ninkanink · 19/04/2020 13:01

I’ve never had an issue with moths. I clean my cashmere, wool and silk as and when necessary, and keep it safe enough from moths in the meantime.

britnay · 19/04/2020 13:02

I have a hanger on the outside of my wardrobe for such clothes

topcat2014 · 19/04/2020 13:05

How would you keep track? I wouldn't manage, hence chairdrobe

JohnFinlaysNewTeeth · 19/04/2020 13:05

So is she welcome to use your cluttered hallway banister that you use? Because it’s sounds like you just have an issue with the way your dd has organised her clothing.

Ninkanink · 19/04/2020 13:14

I keep track quite easily - I have a drawer for worn day-to-day clothing, and a specific section of the wardrobe. My woollen/cashmere/silk items are stored in zip bags and/or hung in the wardrobe. They just get washed once in a while, as needed.

TheFredericaQuartet · 19/04/2020 13:14

I think putting dirty clothes in a wardrobe is a bit fur coat no knickers

No one has said put dirty clothes in wardrobe .... if they're dirty they belong in the laundry basket.

Omg this is so stupid its untrue
Obviously, I was being sarcastic ...

That's how you get moths. They are attracted to the oils we secrete onto collars etc A chairdrobe or clothes stand is a better idea

TheFredericaQuartet · 19/04/2020 13:18

God no! It's full of my clothes breathing.

And she does have hooks on the back of her door for airing clothes but only puts her school blazer and skirt on them.

She has a lovely armchair in her room but I want her to sit on it reading Jane Austen and writing sonnets ...

Yep obviously 🙄
Which is why I think you are just on the wind up.

Whichoneofyoudidthat · 19/04/2020 13:25

I’d never heard of this cross contamination thing until I met my husband. It’s stupid and I hate it and it makes zero sense. When our new wardrobes are built his worn-but-clean stuff will get chucked right back inside his side.

2bazookas · 19/04/2020 13:26

Give her a hook, a screw and a screwdriver and let her make her own doordrobe.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 19/04/2020 13:27

I have a chairdrobe and a drawer which I put slouchy used clothes in

TheFredericaQuartet · 19/04/2020 13:27

how are you summoning the energy for dedicating thought to this with all that is going on in the world?

What is going on in the world? Have I missed something?

I'm with your DD. If they go back in the wardrobe what if you can't remember how many times they've been worn?!

TheFredericaQuartet · 19/04/2020 13:32

Which is why I think you are just on the wind up

No. It's a lighthearted chat on a sunny day in a bizarre time. Just as the poster who offered to swap her moody DD was joking (at least I think she was Grin).

Now if you're not up for that then perhaps you should go and depress yourself on the Coronavirus threads.

You can't put clothes that have been wornice back into the wardrobe or drawers.

Not to sound to crazy Smile. But my line of thinking is along the lines of that they will contaminate the clean clothes.

Whenwillthisbeover · 19/04/2020 13:39

She can always fold them up
And
Put them on the bottom of the wardrobe then they don’t make the clean stuff smell but they are out of sight.

redwoodmazza · 19/04/2020 13:41

Our son had a floordrobe at his flat!!!! Smile

butterpuffed · 19/04/2020 13:41

Not sure why people are using the word 'chairdrobes' ~ they're just chairs and sold as such.

If my clothes are okay to be worn again I put them on a hanger hooked through the outside wardrobe handles

HereTodayHereTomorrow · 19/04/2020 13:46

I’m with your DD - but I bought a second laundry basket for my not clean not dirty clothes so I didn’t have to look at a pile on a chair!
