DD says she needs a chairdrobe because it's gross to put worn clothes in the wardrobe

or into drawers. And I reply if they are clean enough to be worn again they should go in the wardrobe.

I might not practise what I preach but I am right. Aren't I?

I'm totally with your daughter. I'd also like to point out what a waste of resourses it is to wash garments that have been lightly worn.

ladybee28 · 19/04/2020 12:36

My DP is your DD.

I am you, OP.

If once-worn clothes are so gross, why would you put them ON YOUR BODY, but not in a wardrobe?

1forsorrow · 19/04/2020 12:36

EverythingChanges at least you're honest so that's a good thing.

Jellycatfox · 19/04/2020 12:36

I agree with your DD

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 19/04/2020 12:37

Wardrobe - pristine clothes
White ikea rail - worn clothes

Spied · 19/04/2020 12:38

Every bedroom needs a chairdrobe.

AmIAStone · 19/04/2020 12:40

I agree with your daughter sorry

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 19/04/2020 12:40

I think putting dirty clothes in a wardrobe is a bit fur coat no knickers, things look tidy on the surface (or the Instagram) but in the wardrobe blergh!

damnthatanxiety · 19/04/2020 12:44

With your DD

lazylinguist · 19/04/2020 12:44

Not a MN myth.

I guess. But I'm 48 years old, have always put clean, worn clothes back in my wardrobe and have never seen a moth or moth damage in my wardrobe. Nor have any of the other clothes in my wardrobe been somehow contaminated by being hung next to my clean, worn clothes.

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/04/2020 12:46

none of them have chairdrobes, floordrobes or hanging rails in their bedrooms.

Well n, they wouldn't have anything like that on show because they are selling a lifestyle. Either they wear and wash everything after one wear or they are hiding worn stuff.

You can't put worn stuff back in the wardrobe or drawers. It goes somewhere temporarily until reworn within a day or two, if it goes much past that then it gets chucked in the washing basket. I don't have a chair, I have a small shelf in my dressing room for part worn clothes. DH has a chair.

Ninkanink · 19/04/2020 12:47

A chairdrobe is fine. Especially in your daughter’s room if she’s anywhere from pre-teen to older - it’s her room, she can keep it how she likes.

My clothing gets aired out over a chair or a hanging rail for at least 24 hours before it gets put back away. Cashmere jumpers and such definitely need a good airing to dry out, otherwise they are likely to get smelly.

ScrapThatThen · 19/04/2020 12:47

Vogue and multiple other sources agree with the Mumsnet moth myth then...

transformandriseup · 19/04/2020 12:47

I agree with your DD. Wardrobes are for unworn clothes

Ninkanink · 19/04/2020 12:48

And no, putting worn clothing back in drawers or wardrobe is definitely not ‘all fur coat and no knickers.’ What a very odd idea.

BrooHaHa · 19/04/2020 12:48

Has a anyone suggested a hook instead of a chair, yet? I have a hook.

newwnamme · 19/04/2020 12:49

Six pages of discussion on where your dd keeps her somewhat clear clothes. How does it impact on you where she keeps her clothes and how are you summoning the energy for dedicating thought to this with all that is going on in the world?

Quicklittlenamechange · 19/04/2020 12:49

the wonderful world of interior obsessives accounts on Instagram and none of them have chairdrobes, floordrobes or hanging rails in their bedrooms
Omg this is so stupid its untrue 😂😂😂
I doubt they have moth infestations either OP Grin

Dontunderestimateme · 19/04/2020 12:50

Its not that they are gross, but if you keep wearing things then putting them back in the wardrobe how do you keep track of how often you've worn each thing, and when they need washing?

merrymouse · 19/04/2020 12:50

It's a good idea to air clothes, but that only works if there aren't too many clothes on the chair.

If you are just leaving all your clothes on a chair you might as well put them in a wardrobe.

Lweji · 19/04/2020 12:52

How about a larger wardrobe for clean clothes and a smaller one for worn clothes?

Kastanien · 19/04/2020 12:52

we can swap? But must warn you she's a very moody 14 YO

If anyone collects moody 14-yr olds I have one . I can leave her by the gate.

Quicklittlenamechange · 19/04/2020 12:53

Moth infestations are not a myth.
I know people who had them and had to fumigate the whole house!
I think the OP is winding us up though.

Lweji · 19/04/2020 12:53

Or clothes rails to air them?

diddl · 19/04/2020 12:53

Mine go on a hanger on the outside of the door.
