DD says she needs a chairdrobe because it's gross to put worn clothes in the wardrobe

or into drawers. And I reply if they are clean enough to be worn again they should go in the wardrobe.

I might not practise what I preach but I am right. Aren't I?

Or.....think of it as 'morning breath'.
You'd kiss your partner with morning breath because it isn't actually that bad - but you'd much rather prefer fresh breath?

likeafishneedsabike · 19/04/2020 12:11

Team DD. I have a stooldrobe: it’s actually a very nice dressing table stool but I haven’t seen it for years as it is draped with ‘half worn’ clothes.

minipie · 19/04/2020 12:11

Chairdrobe here.

Hooks on the back of the wardrobe door would be a neater solution though

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 19/04/2020 12:12

the wonderful world of interior obsessives accounts on Instagram and none of them have chairdrobes, floordrobes or hanging rails in their bedrooms

Instagram interior pages are like MN chicken. Lies

TotorosFurryBehind · 19/04/2020 12:12

Gross to put worn clothes in wardrobe.

But as a compromise with DH, I have an open rail, to hang things that can be worn again, but keep them tidy looking

AngelaScandal · 19/04/2020 12:12

I had a chairdrobe for that very purpose . Freakishly neat DH used to flinch when he looked at it. I compromised by putting hooks in the door of the wardrobe to hand the ‘I’ll get another wear’ clothes.

Thescrewinthetuna · 19/04/2020 12:13

Your DD is correct

SoupDragon · 19/04/2020 12:13

the wonderful world of interior obsessives accounts on Instagram and none of them have chairdrobes, floordrobes or hanging rails in their bedrooms

I remember seeing an article in a home decor magazine once where they showed photos of what was behind the main photographer. Said it all really!!

Melroses · 19/04/2020 12:14

We also have peg rails on the wall for hoodies and bags and stuff, and a hook behind the door.

Ponoka7 · 19/04/2020 12:15

My bedroom is too small for some of the suggestions. I have a a hook on the back of my door.

Im wearing pjs when I'm in and hang my clothes up after just being out for an hour shopping when I'm not going out for a few days.

I don't think anyone should be putting clothes back in the wardrobe at the moment, we have been told that there is an infection risk from clothes worn outside. It depends on what you are doing of course.
But they are better off hung up, outside a wardrobe to air out, rather than piled.

1forsorrow · 19/04/2020 12:15

When mine were teenagers the deal was if they kept the door closed and I couldn't see it then it was their business. If I saw the hovels they lived in they had to clean them up. Funny really as the messiest one is very fussy now they have their own house.

I confess I have a chairdrobe but it doesn't have piles of stuff on it.

Lucyccfc68 · 19/04/2020 12:16

If it's not 'clean and fresh' enough to go back in the wardrobe it's not 'fresh and clean' enough to wear. Just put it in the wash basket.

As for leaving clothes on the floor! That's seriously trampy.

Youcunnyfunt · 19/04/2020 12:16

If clothes smell they should be in the wash, but if they’re neutral smelling and can be worn again... the chair it is.
I’m sure I read somewhere that worn clothes encourage moths, so not to mix worn and clean clothes.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/04/2020 12:17

ds has 6 hooks on the back of his bedroom door for hoodies that have been worn and can be worn again. Anything else, mostly mid week school trousers/school jumper/trousers go on the back of the chairdrobe.

School shirts, t-shirts usually go straight in the laundry after one wear, t-shirts 2 wears max.

We have found the floordrobe stays clear as long as everywhere else is easily accessible and he doesn't need to open a door/drawer or take a lid off laundry.

Biggest problem is clean laundry being put away, but after many years of training he is getting better.

TheFredericaQuartet · 19/04/2020 12:17

Ugh its utterly grim and dirty anyway

It really isn't either of the above.

Those who say they only wear underwear once - you mean knickers don't you? Cos it's madness to wash bras after one wear.

nitgel · 19/04/2020 12:18

i mostly put things back now unless they're so dirty that the need washing then I wash. am trying to really cut down how much I wash things and they just don't need it imo and I don't want clothes hanging around the bedroom looking untidy.

Infection risk from clothes worn outside?? can you link the evidence to that please?

Sushiroller · 19/04/2020 12:19

Not quite clean, not quite dirty, welcome to... the chair.

i am with your DD too. sorry OP

brendansbuddy · 19/04/2020 12:19

Apparently dirty clothes in wardrobes encourage moths. So chairdrobe is a great solution. Less risk of moths, but not the awful waste of water/energy/chemicals that is washing clothes after every wear. I don't think there's an easy third way.

MitziK · 19/04/2020 12:20

Putting worn clothes back into the wardrobe provides a lovely, human smelling beacon for moths to find all the Good Stuff.

Chairdrobe keeps them away, distracted by the smells on the IKEA Klovingdumperker.

CatteStreet · 19/04/2020 12:20

I'm with your dd.

(Though off to add 'chairdrobe' to the 'words you hate' thread. 'Floordrobe' at least is a witty rhyme with its origin. 'Chairdrobe' is just too far away)

Dontknownow86 · 19/04/2020 12:25

I have a small basket I put worn but not dirty clothes in. Bit tidier than on the floor but they still get some air to them. Would that work?

TheFredericaQuartet · 19/04/2020 12:29

Even worn once, they are carrying the 'air' and germs of everything they came in contact with

The very same germs you'll come into contact with the next day and the day after that ... germs are everywhere!

And the moths thing is an MN myth.

I have a chairdrobe, my bed (metal rails) and the door of the actual wardrobe. I need all these at this time of year because on some days I’m wearing summer clothes and on other days winter clothes, so have a lot on the go. Your DD is right, let her have her chair.

EverythingChanges321 · 19/04/2020 12:34

I’ve got more clothes on the floor than in the wardrobe or chest of drawers. I’m a lazy bitch really. 🤷🏻‍♀️

borntobequiet · 19/04/2020 12:35

Not a MN myth
