'Foodstuffs' and other words too awful to mention.

Some words just really make me shudder. Also, 'meal' and 'helping' as in 'another helping of broccoli'. Noooo

Nom nom, nom noms
Gobsmacked - despise that word, makes me want to smack someone in the gob!
Pacific instead of specific - actually all poor enunciation eg crona instead of corona

"me on a plate" heard far too often on Masterchef

Livedandlearned · 19/04/2020 00:01

I really hate the look of the word trimmed. Trimmings too. I just can't stand the way the word looks, and no one really says it anyway.

Livedandlearned · 19/04/2020 00:03

Just scrolled down and I see I'm not alone in trimmings hatred

macaroniandpizza · 19/04/2020 00:04

Hubs, hubster, holibobs, famalam are some of the phrases that make me want to poke eyes

Blackandgreenteas · 19/04/2020 00:12

Can’t abide it when people say “taste buds”. Just horrendous. Makes me think of them slavering over food from said “buds”.

Also hate picky bits, picky tea, picky anything. And bits and bobs is awful too.

“A raging thirst”, famished, starving (unless meant literally) also awful.

Agree with posters above about “doing” locations being really irritating.

PotholeParadise · 19/04/2020 00:20

"I'm freaking out".

Always said by someone who enjoys having drama and has no intention of taking any advice to solve their problem, as then they would have nothing to "freak out about".

Wheresthebiffer2 · 19/04/2020 00:21

Bedding. As in "washing your bedding". It's sheets and duvet covers and pillow-cases. I don't need an all encompassing word, I really don't. I might even manage to "change my bed linen" if I was trying to be posh, lol. but never would I change my "bedding", I am not a hamster.

MrsSnitchnose · 19/04/2020 00:22

@SunshineDays2019 You're too kind Grin

Couldn't resist, they used to play that every Friday on my local radio station

Tips

Blackandgreenteas · 19/04/2020 00:27

God yes bedding is appalling. I was thinking that the other day.

Tips is better than “life hacks”, although I agree still bad.

AllNewThings · 19/04/2020 00:33

Adore, as in 'I adore cheese' or 'My DS adores toast in the morning'. Gets used a lot on MN and it doesn't seem like the right word to use. Makes me feel a bit sick when I read it.

Oh yes.

How could I forget about adore... Angry

user1494182820 · 19/04/2020 00:48

Hate the overly fussy phrase used (I believe solely, these days) by OH and his family "shall I be mother" "you be mother darling" with reference to pouring tea for everyone. Makes me cringe.

Theluggagerules · 19/04/2020 01:55

Making memories... NO!

LetTheCabbagesDie · 19/04/2020 02:29

Oh and adults saying "pudding" Angry

HarlanWillYouStopNamingNuts · 19/04/2020 03:01

Agree totally with "can I get". Also "grab", as in "grab a coffee", "boozy" and "slurp".

PapayaCoconut · 19/04/2020 03:06

she confusingly calls magazines books

Hahaha, I heard an older lady say passive-aggressively once in a shop: "Are people going to buy the books instead of just standing here reading them!" She was standing in front Hello and Nuts. 😆 (Remember Nuts? Yeah, it was the mid -2000's...)

PapayaCoconut · 19/04/2020 03:10

Oooh, just thought of another. "Experimenting sexually". Sounds so detached, clinical and deeply unsexy.

AfterSchoolWorry · 19/04/2020 03:17

'Pudding' to mean dessert.

Mummy. 😱😱

PrimeraVez · 19/04/2020 03:30

‘Feed’ as a noun. When the DC were tiny and crying my mum always used to ask ‘is he due a feed?’ For some reason, it would turn my stomach.

Also ‘your/her milk’ when referring to breastmilk. ‘He’s doing well on her milk’ or ‘I’m going to express some of my milk for him.’ Vom.
