Isn’t there a princess in Europe that’s now working as a HCA?

A queen somewhere in Asia cooking for the poor?

Harry and Meghan delivering meals?

Bet if Diana was here she’d be out doing everything in her power to help the ordinary folk 💪

@plumpynoo

We are not future Heads of States living off taxpayer millions.

Hope that helps.

managedmis · 19/04/2020 17:51

I am quite happy to pay £1.24 a year

^

Well, I'm not. I want HCP's to have that money.

Vive la révolution!!

LaurieMarlow · 19/04/2020 17:51

Why should the royals be doing more that I'm doing myself

There’s this little thing called the Sovereign Grant. You may have heard of it?

managedmis · 19/04/2020 17:53

They give their time.

^

Let's face it, £500 mil would be more appreciated.

Kate and Wills gurning faces, false promises of help and empathy from their fucking drawing room make me sick.

managedmis · 19/04/2020 17:55

The Sovereign Grant Annual Report states that the Sovereign Grant was £31 million for 2012–13, £36.1 million for 2013–14 and £37.9 million for 2014–15. The amount of the Sovereign Grant is 15% of the income account net surplus of the Crown Estate for the financial year that began two years previously

^

Googled it for ya

They have it hard, do the Royals! Hard, I tell you

OhMargo · 19/04/2020 18:19

"Never was so much owed by so few to so many"

RF are the Few here, Churchill said the original version which was the opposite in time of war. I'm sick of the RF now, but hey, what can I do?

They will be found out.

MsTSwift · 19/04/2020 18:22

Let’s hope so Margo. Over the last few weeks I’ve moved from indulgence / nice to have history etc to resentment and feeling quite cross. The millions given to them is sickening really

Wolfgirrl · 19/04/2020 18:23

I'm good at objective thinking, if the royals really brought in more money than we spent on them (and this could actually be accounted for, not just dodgy estimations) then I wouldn't be fussed. The undemocratic side of things annoys me but I would be able to see the practical benefit. But I just can't see one. The best the royalists can do is point out they are patrons of charities and 'bring in tourism', which are both vague and are impossible to quantify in terms of benefit. Whereas we know how much is spent on them and it is a lot of money that could make a huge difference elsewhere.

For the intangible benefits such as 'pomp and ceremony' and 'history', why is culture incompatible with being a republic? France is the most visited tourist destination in the world and considered the home of culture. We could still have the pomp and ceremony without the royals. As for history, I love history. I too have been watching the BBC series on Henry the 8th. Fascinating. But that eas 400 years ago and is not an excuse to keep the royals now. What will be written about our royals in the history books? Possibly that the Queen was hardworking but what else? The scandals? Harry and Meghan leaving? What would be written about Kate and William? That at a time of national crisis, they hunkered down in their mansion and played tennis? Can you please tell me how they will contribute to history?

Amboseli · 19/04/2020 18:24

@managedmis, me too. They shouldn't receive a penny of taxpayers money. There are countless ways that money could be better spent, on the NHS being the most obvious.

Vive la revolution!

EdwinaMay · 19/04/2020 18:38

The Brits are so bitter and twisted about the lucky few better off than themselves. I don't know why - you don't get this constant bitching in other countries. Whingeing poms fits for sure.

twirlycat77 · 19/04/2020 18:40

Why should the royals be doing more that I'm doing myself?

I don’t know where to start answering that, so I won’t bother. Shock

Lifeisabeach09 · 19/04/2020 18:47

The Brits are so bitter and twisted about the lucky few better off than themselves.

Hardly. We just like to get something for our money. I might be less inclined to 'whinge' if our elite earned their wealth rather than inherited it on the back of the poor.

Wolfgirrl · 19/04/2020 18:50

@EdwinaMay

Because it isnt earned. It's taken. That's why this thread isnt about the Beckhams. If you cant see the difference, you basically arent up to participating in this debate.

MarshaBradyo · 19/04/2020 18:50

Hardly re lucky few.

Paid for by public, adored by cap doffers, just average people promoting a social hierarchy.

If they got there alone in a more egalitarian society -great.

I’m more surprised by people who kowtow.

slipperywhensparticus · 19/04/2020 18:51

They are calling people and staying safe what fucking else fo you expect them to do

Wolfgirrl · 19/04/2020 18:53

@slipperywhensparticus

They are the future Heads of State. They should be HELPING like the 1 million NHS volunteers. Why should everyone else do their bit but not them?

Outtedagain · 19/04/2020 18:53

I could not care any less, if the sky collapsed they are the last people on the plant I would even think of.

LaurieMarlow · 19/04/2020 18:55

They are calling people and staying safe what fucking else fo you expect them to do

Read the thread. Lots of suggestions about how they could cheer, support and lead.

My next door neighbour’s doing a lot more and she’s not a future head of state, with millions of pounds of public money at her disposal.

Wolfgirrl · 19/04/2020 18:56

@Outtedagain

Why comment then?

They could drive delivery vans to on-line shoppers. I'm sure Waitrose could use them.

MarshaBradyo · 19/04/2020 18:59

Edwina you sound more unpleasant than anyone on this thread.

EdwinaMay · 19/04/2020 19:00

Hmmm, I so value the views of most on this thread - not!

MarshaBradyo · 19/04/2020 19:01

As I do yours. Er...

Aerated and ridiculous.

queenofarles · 19/04/2020 19:01

Kate could do a baking segment with Marry Barry, with proceeds from ads going to charities. I liked their Christmas special.

She is also very good interacting with children, she probably can do that everyday, doing crafts, gardening etc.
