AIBU For expecting a pay rise next year?

So basically the company is work for won’t be giving anyone a pay rise or bonus for this FY. I’m not sure why they decided to tell us in April but I Want to contact my union and asked for them to sort it out. AIBU for expecting my union not to fight for a pay rise?

A lot of companies will be going bust, and mamy others will be contracting.
In the circumstances, I think most people will be lucky if they keep their jobs.

littlemeitslyn · 17/04/2020 19:26

Magic bean, really stupid comment

Marpan · 17/04/2020 19:26

You are being crazy and unreasonable, in fact delusional.

Parker231 · 17/04/2020 19:27

@Burnbabyburn1 - in light of what is going on at the moment, why do you think you should have a pay increase as opposed to a pay cut, furloughed pay or redundancy.

MrsGrindah · 17/04/2020 19:29

That’s not even a reverse then.

Burnbabyburn1 · 17/04/2020 19:38

@MrsGrindah what do you mean it’s not a reverse? My work colleague did the above.

My dhs company just emailed that for the staff affected by the increase in NMW, tough shit, you'll see that when you return to work.

PapsofJura · 17/04/2020 19:46

burnbaby don’t blame you for letting rip and don’t feel bad about it either. Some people have no idea that the shit storm is when we go back to work.

PleasantVille · 17/04/2020 19:53

Reverse posts are stupid, why not post what really happened, I can't see the point of this.

DropZoneOne · 17/04/2020 20:00

I had a 3% pay rise in March, and a 5% pay cut in April! My bonus, earned on last year's performance but paid in April, has been delayed indefinitely - no word yet on whether it will be paid at all, our MD is negotiating hard with our parent company.

I'm in an industry that has been hit hard, no money coming in, refunds to customers going out and fixed costs still to be paid. Likely to be hit even after the peak passes. Quite frankly, if we're all still in jobs in 6 months I'll be amazed, so have no expectations on pay or bonus for 2021

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 17/04/2020 20:02

Seriously? This has got to be a wind up.

We had to lay staff off at the end of March, we've all taken a 20% cut this month, will take 50% cut at the end of next and my boss has already said that those of us in senior positions will have to work for nothing from July if things are still how they are now, with the hope we might have a chance to rebuild come the autumn and be able to keep our most junior staff paid.

Perhaps consider what a very fortunate position you are in right now and quit moaning.

Likefootball · 17/04/2020 20:04

I think many people will consider themselves lucky to have jobs, never mind rises.

TARSCOUT · 17/04/2020 20:06

This must be a wind up........................

MorganKitten · 17/04/2020 20:07

As most companies are getting the government pay outs they will need to pay those back... I doubt anyone will get a pay rise next year.

Burnbabyburn1 · 17/04/2020 20:22

@PleasantVille I did write a post from my perspective and thought she might see it and show to the boss. I also thought that perhaps I was stupid to even think I was in the right. I’m not really thinking right atm.

OP posts:
MrsGrindah · 17/04/2020 20:32

I can’t be bothered with this silly reverse faffing about.

ScarletFever · 17/04/2020 21:45

How dare they not do that. I want my pay rise.

Fuck off with your reverse shit

AteAllTheAfterEights · 17/04/2020 21:50

We had the same communication yesterday- no promotions or payrises this year (to end jan 21)

I’m just bloody grateful they are trying to protect jobs and I’m still being paid

Nottherealslimshady · 17/04/2020 21:56

Do you live under a rock?
This is slaughtering our economy, if an employee asked me for a pay rise right now I'd be taking that as their notice to quit.

DailyMailFeelFreeToUse · 17/04/2020 22:00

I'm off, CBA with reversy Percy shite!

Healthyandhappy · 17/04/2020 22:01

I'm a nurse in private sector. Our pay rise goes on our PDR and my manager was giving me gr8 feedback and I put my score down as we had to agree and I'm not one to say on amazing etc. Next yr I bloody will lol. I will be expecting a pay rise as our company are helping nhs out so should be earning extra money but also taking a hit as we cant do one of the jobs that earn money. But because I'm wfh they should save money. Anyways I'm expecting a pay rise I had 2 pay increases last year totaling 1k. So I'm expecting at least 500 pound increase which isnt much but its something

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/04/2020 22:05

Why wouldn’t you just write and AIBU along the lines of “my colleague has become pretty vocal about expecting a pay rise. She’s a loon, right?”

ScrewBalls99 · 17/04/2020 23:00

We are lucky to have/hopeful keep our jobs if we have one. The country is going into recession... Ridiculous you are talking about payrises and bonuses op

RainbowMum11 · 17/04/2020 23:10

If the industry and company are not performing well, and with the current situation, there is no way I would expect a pay rise and would be very thankful to still have a job.

Starlightstarbright1 · 17/04/2020 23:17

Ffs . It’s the anonymous internet say what you want to . Reverse 🙄
