AIBU For expecting a pay rise next year?

So basically the company is work for won’t be giving anyone a pay rise or bonus for this FY. I’m not sure why they decided to tell us in April but I Want to contact my union and asked for them to sort it out. AIBU for expecting my union not to fight for a pay rise?

This has got to be a wind-up, surely.

YABU. The company I work for has put a pay and recruitment freeze on. Please don't contact the Union, that's just embarrassing.

Kez200 · 17/04/2020 18:40

Depends on the business. I think its very very presumptuous to expect anything other than pay staying the same. Many are taking reductions.

However there are probably a few businesses where they will do OK and be able to afford rises. Not sure I would ask for one though. Its a dreadful time out there for most at the moment.

Be lucky if you have a job

Snipples · 17/04/2020 18:43

Assuming you are being deliberately goady now tbh. Get a bloody grip.

I'm an employment lawyer and by far most employers out there are looking at redundancies/ unpaid leave and pay cuts to survive this mess. Pay rises would be the last thing I would expect. Keeping your job is a luxury many people won't have in a few months.

Hoggleludo · 17/04/2020 18:44

My husband got a pay rise a few weeks ago

It does happen

Hannsmum · 17/04/2020 18:47

Is this a joke 😏😏

Hoggleludo · 17/04/2020 18:48

Your update though....

Entitled much?!?

Hoggleludo · 17/04/2020 18:48

Surely you shouldn't know

I want DOESNT get!

LaurieMarlow · 17/04/2020 18:50

If you’ve a job by the end of the year count yourself lucky

spanieleyes · 17/04/2020 18:51

You sound like a two year old having a tantrum!

JacketPotatoQueen · 17/04/2020 18:53

How on earth are you so out of touch with reality?

HarlanWillYouStopNamingNuts · 17/04/2020 18:56

Oh dear, OP. I'm sure you're on HR's list but it isn't a list of people who will get a pay rise.

Parker231 · 17/04/2020 18:57

I’m assuming you are joking? I’m expecting most organisations to put on a pay and bonus freeze, possibly pay cuts and significant redundancies with large numbers of businesses closing down.

cjpark · 17/04/2020 19:00

I think you are deluded! Im in the private sector - our options were,
a) 60% pay cut immediately
b) Furloughed - no top up, max £2500
c) Redundancy

You are very insensitive and may well be viewed as a fool for asking.

PapsofJura · 17/04/2020 19:04

I think this is a reverse.

MrsGrindah · 17/04/2020 19:05

Yeah right

ilovesooty · 17/04/2020 19:05

I can't believe anyone could post that last update in all seriousness.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 17/04/2020 19:06

Does your contract of employment guarantee an annual increment?
THose I've seen that do mention an annual increment usually have a 'get out clause'.
If there is an annual pay increment it may be linked to inflation, will you be voluntary paycut if there is recession and deflation?

I suspect Unions maybe more focussed on members losing their jobs, but do give it a try.
Alternatively, wait until you're made redundant.

CremeEggThief · 17/04/2020 19:09

YABU. Don't be so ridiculous. Most of us will be lucky to have a job!

Ginfordinner · 17/04/2020 19:14

I think the OP is a wind up metchant.

Ginfordinner · 17/04/2020 19:15

Are you a glue fuelled troll? Or have you been asleep for the past few weeks? The country is going to tip into the worst recession you will ever have experienced - unemployment is going to sky rocket!! ... and you're banging on about a pay rise 🤣🤣
