To think Piers Morgan has a point?

Personally not a fan of Piers Morgan and his interview style annoys me with the constant interruptions. However when questioning the health secretary I did think he had a point about taking a pay cut. Matt Hancock was quite quick when asked to suggest that footballers should take a pay cut but isn’t willing to do the same himself. My husband and I disagree but wondered what others thought. AIBU to think the Matt Hancock is being hypocritical by suggesting others should be taking a pay cut but not being willing to take one himself?

Matt Hancocks reply....

'I'm not proposing to do that, what I am proposing to do is work every hour that there is.'

Frozenfan2019 · 16/04/2020 10:15

Dislike Matt Hancock but no I don't he should take a pay cut. No-one who is still working should. The footballers aren't working and are still receiving hundreds of thousands

koshkatt · 16/04/2020 10:15

I don’t think he should take a pay cut but I think it is hypocritical to suggest others should without being willing to do so himself

Such impressive critical thinking skills OP. Hmm

Smileyaxolotl1 · 16/04/2020 10:15

eagle that is good but even with her pay cut her pay is higher than our PM

FreakStar · 16/04/2020 10:17

The world would be a much better place without Piers Morgan. What exactly does he he add to it, other than to make everyone grateful they don't don't know anyone like him in real life! ?

Portabella24 · 16/04/2020 10:17

Matt Hancock should be sacked for the shambolic testing situation. Germany test 75,000 people a day. We are struggling to test 8,000. The govt hyped up antibody testing when it turns out there isn't even a working test available. Very curious to know why people think Hancock is doing a great job.

Genevieva · 16/04/2020 10:19

Footballers on £10 million a year have been standing by and watching the people who make their success possible get 20% pay cuts, while getting no pay cut themselves. Many of those staff have ordinary low paid jobs. Others are specialist health professionals still caring for them. None are mega rich. There are no matches at the moment, so the footballers aren't generating any income for their clubs. And the decision to furlough staff was made after paying massive dividends to the clubs' owners. It is morally reprehensible to expect tax payers to pick up the tab for your employees while paying yourself millions. It is extreme greed.

Matt Hancock was asked a blunt question at the end of a long briefing session just after returning to work after a week off with coronavirus. He said something along the lines of 'yes of course they should step up and help'. I agree with him entirely.

penelopepitstopsgain · 16/04/2020 10:19

I totally agree OP. This country would be on it's knees if it wasn't for people giving their time, energy and money via charities (look at how the war veteran Captain Tom Moore has raised £12m- including £10k from Piers Morgan- in a manner of days) so the idea of saying we are all in this together should be backed up by actual action.

I can guarantee that however hard Matt Hancock is working (and part of that is to play catch up) it pales in significance to the NHS and care home staff yet his party actively sought to ensure their pay rise did not happen in 2017.

It would be an honorable thing to do to take a pay cut but honor is a very rarely seen in our politicians.

NeverMindtheBotox · 16/04/2020 10:23

@Doggybiccys Fair point, but my point was that this applies to high earners in all walks of life. Their contributions are determined by the tax system and if we want them to pay more then we should sort that system out, not simply decide by tabloid which high earning careers are allowed to keep their wages and which don't.

Like it or not, football is an industry that makes enormous amounts of money, and exceptionally talented people in all money-making industries earn lots and lots of money. I think pp have hit the nail on the head by pointing out that football is one of the few industries where this is considered unacceptable primarily because those exceptional individuals tend to be working class boys who are very often black.

@bringer "I don't enjoy or value this particular activity that millions enjoy, so I hope it ends and no one can enjoy it again". What a very unpleasant position to take.

Sunshineeeee · 16/04/2020 10:24

Piss moron Grin😂

andhessixfeetten · 16/04/2020 10:25

I think Matt Hancock earns £96k plus the allowances which are generous but highly scrutinised.

Ministers are punished by being sacked - that leads to an automatic paycut. That is the mechanism that we have.

Piers Morgan, on the other hand, he could take a paycut....

I was uncomfortable when he was interviewing a woman this week - is she something to do with health? I cannot remember. He accused her of laughing. She wasn't laughing about people's predicaments, it was more a "Oh for fucks sake let me answer" as he steamrolled over her. She was also interviewed on Sky, much more polite, low key but again she was broadly grinning through out. I was sitting with my tea and toast thinking, "What is she on, is she drunk or high or what." Her performance can't be blamed on Piers Morgan. Someone said on another thread she was the same on BBC.

ExD1938 · 16/04/2020 10:26

When this is over we'll all be taking a pay cut because taxes, for those of us left working, will have to be raised to pay for all this.

sunglasses123 · 16/04/2020 10:26

Still having to train! Dont make me laugh. As a PP said, MH is working more hours than ever, his boss caught the disease, he caught the virus and those stupid footballers sending messages about staying in and protecting the NHS (and then being caught coming back from a party that SAME day)!! MH's words are reviewed over and over again for any errors whilst he is speaking. When he is listening to a question people are picking over his expressions and drawing their own conclusions.

I would hate to be on the world stage being reviewed like this and you are moaning that the poor little footballers are still training...... The levels of money are so very different. Could you imagine MH was caught going out to parties, having a BBQ etc. There will be reporters camped out at his house waiting for him (and other key politicans) to make one mistake and it will be then splashed over the papers.

1forsorrow · 16/04/2020 10:27

Footballers on £10 million a year have been standing by and watching the people who make their success possible get 20% pay cuts The footballers don't run the clubs you know and to be fair to them our local club is doing alot of volunteering as are the rugby players. I know that doesn't suit people but it is a fact.

koshkatt · 16/04/2020 10:33

Footballers could step up and request a pay cut couldn't they?

Kazzyhoward · 16/04/2020 10:34

I wouldn't be an MP for seventy odd grand when people in the financial industry earn millions upon millions.

Surely that would depend whether you have the attributes to get a multi million pound finance industry job, wouldn't it?

If you're a bog standard middle earner with few prospects, then an MP salary would be quite attractive, especially with the pension etc.

Susan1961 · 16/04/2020 10:37

As a care worker on £8.35 pH, he could throw some my way pretty please.

formerbabe · 16/04/2020 10:41

Why on earth should Matt Hancock take a pay cut?! I imagine he's working all hours god sends right now.

As for footballers, I think their wages are obscene but the tax payer doesn't pay them so I struggle to give a dam really.

Reginabambina · 16/04/2020 10:43

Hedge fund managers and health secretaries are still working. Footballers aren’t.

Alsohuman · 16/04/2020 10:44

The NZ prime minister has taken a 20% pay cut. But then she’s the most principled and sensible politician on the planet. I wish they’d all take a leaf from her book. Or, better still, clone her so we could all have one.

Petronius16 · 16/04/2020 10:45

New Zealand's Prime Minister and cabinet are still working and taken a pay cut. Female PM anything to do with it?

eaglejulesk · 16/04/2020 10:46

@Smileyaxolotl1 - that's interesting

AlternativePerspective · 16/04/2020 10:47

How much does Peers Morgan earn?

Surely it says a lot when he announced that he would give that war vet £10k of his own money to get the campaign started. Clearly he’s not hard up and yet is sitting there demanding this and that while he does fuck all apart from abuse people both on television and social media, and being paid to do so.

I followed his twitter account the other day out of morbid curiosity and one of the first (and last) tweets I saw was him saying to someone “fuck off you twat.” Most journalists would be sacked for doing that but people seem to love it. Why?

Lemonblast · 16/04/2020 10:49

How much of a paycut is Morgan taking?
