...ground, even if you intend to pick them up on your way back is selfish and inconsiderate of others

I really really hate seeing bags of poo hung in trees it is fucking nasty. It is YOUR dog. The shit is YOUR problem. Carry it with you or don't have a dog.

Glowcat · 16/04/2020 13:14

I never get the tree thing. Surely the picking it up is the worst bit? Once you’ve done that all it’s sealed away. I forget that I’m carrying it.

rookiemere · 16/04/2020 13:25

DH said he has been seeing a lot more hanging poo bags recently. No excuse but I think the increase is for a couple of reasons. Firstly councils aren't able to empty bins and secondly probably before in most households there was one main dog walker who did the right thing with the poo bag. Now as people only allowed out once per day other members of the family are being drafted in who are less good about doing the necessary.

MRex · 16/04/2020 13:47

It's disgusting. The number of poo bags that are "forgotten" is huge, anybody leaving them is at fault. Just carry a rucksack with a plastic bag in, drop your poo bags in there, you won't smell a thing. And pick up "other people's" bags if you usually leave yours to pick up later, the chances are that they're your bags you've forgotten on previous trips out!

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/04/2020 14:05

If people pick them up on the way back then I don't have an issue with it. No sense in carrying it around for an hour is there?

This.

Well you could say that about anything then really. What if I've finished my drink or snack and don't want to carry about an apple core or banana skin or water bottle or whatever, can i just leave it by the path on the basis I'm going to collect it on the way back? Why should I spoil my walk and have a rotting core in my pocket?

Even small children know they aren't supposed to leave rubbish anywhere or drop litter - that's effectively what you are teaching your children. That it's okay to leave some rubbish sometimes if it's a bit inconvenient.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/04/2020 14:15

Fine - leave the poo on the street.

I'm sure no one will step on it or slip on it, no animal would possibly eat it, no bird or rodent would rip it open and scatter the contents, and they look absolutely celebratory when all hung on a tree or railing...

ErrolTheDragon · 16/04/2020 14:50

I did see a dog in a (doggy) nappy in the park the other day. It has a hole for its tail.

I'd guess it was a bitch and it was 'feminine hygiene' rather than a nappy?Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 16/04/2020 14:52

Ohhhh never thought of that. It was just like a nappy though - I looked to see if they’d just cut a hole in one but it seemed to be a doggy one.

Runnerduck34 · 16/04/2020 15:33

Ooh I absolutely hate this! forever seeing plastic bags of dog poo tied to trees, the dog owners hardly ever come back for them, Ive seen some bags hanging around for months and months, they would be better off leaving the dog poo on the ground to decompose, rather than wrapping it in plastic and leaving it there for eternity!

Xenia · 16/04/2020 15:36

We have to pick them up from the estate verges where which are swarming with new walkers (this is a private road but we kindly let people walk up the roads and it is like Piccadilly circus at present- and I have never had so much mess). The council do not clear the mess. I was out yesterday picking up carefully with gloves drug stuff from a car of 4 men who were here at 1.30am the night before, the day before 2 bags on the verge of dog poo etc etc on and on. The sooner these litter louts are jailed or get back to dirtying their own doorsteps the better.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 16/04/2020 15:46

The trouble is that people either "forget" or forget.

This is true and, that being the case, everyone should just take them along with them on rest of their walk until they get to a bin/their dustbin. I am a dog owner and I have been doing this for the last 12 years - it certainly isn't too taxing. What IS taxing is strolling through the forest and tripping over/having the eyesore (and smell) of everyone else's discarded bags. I quite often come home with our one bag and 13 others that have been discarded by previous dogwalkers. The other problem is that the wildlife (particularly foxes) try to eat them when food is scarce and probably swallow lots of plastic.

mencken · 16/04/2020 15:56

carry it round. You signed up to do that when you acquired a dog. Don't want to carry bags of shit around, don't get a dog.

5zeds · 16/04/2020 17:01

Of course you didn’t sign up for it. Just get more bins put in and deal with the actual problem rather than being arses to people who have devised ways of dealing with inadequate facilities.

PegasusReturns · 16/04/2020 17:30

@5zeds yep definitely signed up for it.

In fact I’m not sure how you could possibly arguing that disposing if your dogs shit in a socially acceptable way is not your responsibility.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/04/2020 17:37

Just get more bins put in and deal with the actual problem rather than being arses to people who have devised ways of dealing with inadequate facilities.

'Just' getting more bins isn't trivial in many locations. If it's a path well away from the road, who empties it and how? And as I've mentioned upthread, even if there is a bin not very far away many people CBA to use them.

People who dump dogshit bags on the ground or even worse strew in trees, hedges and fences have not 'devised ways of dealing with inadequate facilities.'. They've simply dumped their shit on everyone else.Hmm

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/04/2020 17:58

@5zeds yes cos I'd rather pay council tax to fund bins for lazy arses than for resources for schools or the elderly or disabled...

Shamoo · 16/04/2020 18:05

Dog owner here. Always pick poo up and carry it until I find a bin. It’s one of the most basic obligations of being a dog owner. I cannot fathom how anybody can think it is acceptable to leave poo in public for any period of time because they are too lazy to carry it. Absolutely grim, anti-social and unacceptable.

5zeds · 16/04/2020 18:38

I think it’s weird that you think people should walk carrying shit with them if they can come back and bin it. If there really ARE lies of bags then surely a bin is the answer. My dog shits at home but obviously that’s not an option for everyone. I’m happy for people to bag and retrieve.

5zeds · 16/04/2020 18:44

This is what other countries do. Cleaner really than shitting on the grass in parks and leaving skids when you bag it, but you know, different people have different ideas about what’s ok.

To think that leaving bags of dogshit on the floor when you go for a walk
dogsdinnerlady · 16/04/2020 18:54

My dog has occasionally come back with human poo on his teeth. Trust me, it was def human (the smell). Some people are not above a quick shit in the forest while out on a long hike. Have even seen a pile decorated with flowery loo paper.

JohnFinlaysNewTeeth · 16/04/2020 18:56

The other problem is that the wildlife (particularly foxes) try to eat them when food is scarce and probably swallow lots of plastic.
Yup. Several Deer at our local park have died because of this. So even if you plan on picking it up again (really...) you’re still a disgusting individual. Anything could happen in that time (inconveniencing other people by making them pick up your rubbish, animals eating it, small children picking them up, wheelchair / pushchair users/ cyclists not seeing it and splattering the bag open) and it’s just selfish let’s face it

UnhappyMondays · 16/04/2020 19:00

I used to live next to a forest and it was revolting finding beautiful trees adorned like Satan’s Christmas tree with plastic bags of turd gently swaying in the breeze. It is disgusting. They rarely get taken on the way back.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/04/2020 19:24

5zeds, no, a bin isn't the answer. The costs of providing bins in remote locations is not something that should be a priority. Additionally, how are these going to be emptied? Sending some poor person for a half hour walk to return with a bin bag full of dog shite on his /her back? Behave. Apart from the fact there isn't a magic money tree that pays for these things. That is totally unacceptable. Would you be happy to do that job or for your partner or child to? Probaby for minimum wage.

No, the answer is as it should be, your dog shits, you deal with it, if that means you need to carry a bag of poo with you for an hour then that's what you do.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/04/2020 19:29

"Just put more bins in" is such a stupid solution. Shall we tax dog ownership then? Cover the additional costs (labour, vans, permit at the tip) to empty all these extra dog poo bins?

No. Didn't think you would be up for that.

Take it home and put it in your wheelie bin.
