...ground, even if you intend to pick them up on your way back is selfish and inconsiderate of others

OP posts:

Probably to try and avoid the selfish idiots hanging up bags of shit in trees.

I doubt it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/04/2020 08:33

Yes, it’s vile. When we had a dog I always picked it up (sandwich bag as ‘glove’ with a piece of kitchen roll - and flushed it down the loo once home. My hyper-squeamish mother thought it awful to flush dog poo down the loo! 😂
But I dare say some hyper-hygienic MNers would feel the same.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/04/2020 08:33

Of course 'flick' only works if your dog does firm shits, and the NT probably assumes everyone properly worms their dogs. Don't do it unless both of those apply.

LaurieMarlow · 16/04/2020 08:33

I don't care if you think I'm lying, or lazy or selfish. I know I'm being a responsible owner and cleaning up after my dog - my conscience is clear on that.

You are lying to yourself. It’s such a shame people like you make the world a bit of a worse place to be.

You clearly don’t give a shit though, because that’s the type of person you are.

Lockheart · 16/04/2020 08:35

No, @LaurieMarlow, I'm quite certain my conscience is clear. I clean up after my dog because I do give a shit and am a responsible dog owner.

You have a lovely day too now.

ScarfLadysBag · 16/04/2020 08:36

The stick and flick thing is for countryside/forests and yes part of the rationale is that they would prefer poo left to degrade than people leaving bags around, as they know people will bag it up and then end up leaving it in places. They were quite open about that when the Forestry Commission was talking about it, specifically talking about the blight of poo bags hanging on trees.

LaurieMarlow · 16/04/2020 08:36

I'm quite certain my conscience is clear. I clean up after my dog because I do give a shit and am a responsible dog owner.

Lying to yourself really is the worst Wink

TheNavigator · 16/04/2020 08:38

Lockheart so all you care about it how you feel about yourself? Could you be any more self centred? We walk past so many dog poo bags on the popular local walks, no way are dog owners taking responsibility. Putting your fingers in your ears and going 'me,me,me' rather than acknolwedging the issue won't make it go away.

Lockheart · 16/04/2020 08:39

@LaurieMarlow well what you believe is up to you and none of my business.

iMoan7 · 16/04/2020 08:39

I absolutely sick to fucking death of dog owners around here.

We have a small garden but we do have some large areas of grass not two minutes walk from the house. Can I let my toddler run around on the grass to burn off some energy and get some exercise? No. Because its fucking COVERED in dog shit.

Lockheart · 16/04/2020 08:40

@TheNavigator no, I'm not the only person I care about. I am happy that I'm fulfilling my responsibilities as a dog owner to clean up after my dog.

LaurieMarlow · 16/04/2020 08:40

well what you believe is up to you and none of my business.

I’m not exactly alone now, am I? Look at this thread. Lots of people think you’re selfish and irresponsible.

5zeds · 16/04/2020 08:43

If there are areas where bags of dog shit build up because people have abandoned them, surely that means a bin is needed at that point and what has been provided for dog walkers to dispose of waste is inadequate?

Wouldn’t it be better to demand a bin is put in?

Unescorted · 16/04/2020 08:43

It is grim to leave it for other people to enjoy on their walk. If a person passes it while it is on the ground it does not matter how long you have left it there - it could be minutes or days, the effect is the same for the poor person who came out for a walk. A grim bag of dog shit.

Around here we also have a lot of dog walkers with nervous ticks that means lots end up over fences and dog walkers with memory loss so the bags remain on the ground or in hung in trees for later. Often weeks later until someone else remembers for them.

If picking up after your dog is too onerous maybe reconsider having a dog.

Lockheart · 16/04/2020 08:44

@LaurieMarlow well then that's up to them too isn't it?

I don't let strangers on the internet influence my decision making unless I'm actively asking for advice.

I will continue to do what I think is right and responsible.

As before, @LaurieMarlow, you have a lovely day too.

Polestar50 · 16/04/2020 08:48

My partner and I both run with our dog. It's impossible to run carrying a flappy smelly poo bag in one hand so we got our dog one of these K9 utility vests.

mypetshealthandsafety.co.uk/K9%20UTILITY%20JACKETS.htm

There are two good sized mesh pockets so she carries her own spare poo bags on one side and can carry her own poo (double bagged) on the other side if needed until we get to a bin or take it home.

She is a medium-size dog and it works well. She doesn't notice or care about wearing it or carrying stuff. It is mostly mesh so she doesn't get too hot in the summer either.

Can't recommend it highly enough!

TreacherousPissFlap · 16/04/2020 08:48

In these uncertain times, I feel a faint glow of happiness that a dog poo thread can still cause such frothing and angst

LaurieMarlow · 16/04/2020 08:49

you have a lovely day too.

Yes, safe in the knowledge that I’m not making the world a slightly worse place to be by leaving bags of crap around unattended and not properly disposed of.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/04/2020 08:50

Well what about if I'm in a country park and baby does a poo so I change them alfresco, bag the nappy but don't fancy carrying it round the park, is it okay if I leave it by the side or hanging from a tree? Because I'll definitely not be doing a circular walk and not pass it again and "forget". Or what if I have a bad cold and chesty cough and collect my snot and coughed up gunk into tissues and bag them for the way back as I don't want them in my pocket?

I don't care what method you use to carry it, just take it with you and don't pretend you are getting it on the way back because a sizeable proportion don't.

Oldraver · 16/04/2020 08:51

Yes there is an ever growing pile of bags near us. When I first saw them it's easy to think oh they will be picked up on the way back , but inly say one dig walker ahead of us. Severel days later the pile is still there

Disgusting Twats, and yes to be 'seen' picking up poo but discarding when out of sight

dogsdinnerlady · 16/04/2020 08:54

In the Forestry Commission land where we walk the FC has a poster that says that IF you bag it, take it home. Or 'stick and flick' it into the long grass, away from footpaths. It will rot away quickly, but once in a bag it will be a bacterial bomb for years.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/04/2020 08:57

And those demanding extra bins, yes if you are going to pay for some local licence to fund them. I'm not sure why I should pay extra council tax to have a bin in the middle of a country walk where someone is going to have to come a fair way from the road to empty it, just because some folk are too ignorant and lazy to clean up after their pet. I'm happy to pay extra tax for community members who need help and support instead.

MaccaPacca81 · 16/04/2020 08:58

On a recent walk in epping forest, I counted over 50 bags of trodden on, decomposing and fresh bags of dog shit on the floor, hanging from trees and in a car park . It's disgusting.

Read that a number of horses die from eating the bags too as they are attracted to the cereal in the poo.
