...ground, even if you intend to pick them up on your way back is selfish and inconsiderate of others

I hate it. Especially when it's been hung from a tree or hedge. It's not hard to carry it with you to a bin.

LaurieMarlow · 16/04/2020 07:11

Seeing bags lying around makes people think it’s an acceptable. Even if you have never ‘forgotten’ to pick yours up, you’re still part of the problem.

UnfinishedSymphon · 16/04/2020 07:11

@FinnefanFox *shouldn't

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 16/04/2020 07:15

It’s also odd to find a poo troll has stolen my poo bag. think you’ll find it’s not a poo troll, but someone who thinks you’re a lazy arsed git.
As an aside, we’ve also seen a rise of lazy arsed gits who don’t even bother to bag up. Dirty fuckers.

Thefifthbeatle · 16/04/2020 07:38

I'm gobsmacked by how many dog owners on this thread seem to think that the rest of us should have to accommodate their lifestyle choice. If there is poo in a public place arising out of your choice to have a dog, then you deal with it - immediately - rather than trying to impose the consequences of your choice on the rest of us. If my toddler announced that she needed a poo whilst we were out and about, would you think it acceptable for me to let her poo in a bag and tie that to the nearest tree until I felt it was convenient for me to get rid of it?

I suspect some of them may be the same people who tell parents of small children who are frightened of dogs all about what they should do to "get their children used to dogs". As opposed to, you know, the dog owner just not allowing their dogs to harass other people in a public place.

Seriously. The onus isn't on the rest of us to make it possible for you to have a dog. The onus is on you to only have a dog if you can do so without frightening other people/making public places disgusting.

SoupDragon · 16/04/2020 07:42

If it's bagged it won't smell.

Oh yes it does!

I have done it in the past (but I left it behind a tree out in the countryside as always picked it up on the way back) but now I have a neoprene bag from Duck Soup that attaches to the lead. It means the plastic poo bags don't get ripped on brambles. Still smells!

Before that, on a long walk I took a large plastic pot to put the bags in. Also still smelt 🤣

Rosehip10 · 16/04/2020 07:51

Many dog owners are selfish and anti-social. Leaving shit bags in tress and "forgetting" is disgusting.

Lockheart · 16/04/2020 07:51

A dog owners responsibility (and legal duty, depending on where you are) is to clean up and take your dog's poo home.

How they do that is none of anyone elses business, assuming they're on public land and haven't left it somewhere stupid like in the middle of a path. As long as it gets taken home or binned then they're doing what they should.

From some of the comments anyone would think leaving a bag of poo by a roadsign to collect later is the same as leaving an eviscerated corpse or radioactive waste in the middle of the playground.

sunfloweryy · 16/04/2020 07:57

I think YABU as long as the collect it again on their way back. A small bag tucked out of the way doesn’t hurt anyone!

Els1e · 16/04/2020 07:58

I have a dog and hate this habit some people have. It spoils the countryside even if the poo bag is only been left temporarily. Very selfish and inconsiderate. I pop the poo bag into a thicker plastic bag like a bread bag, either carry it or into my rucksack and dispose when I next get to a bin. To me it’s part of the responsibility of having a dog.

KylieKoKo · 16/04/2020 08:00

Leaving bags of shit around for any length of time anywhere is obviously disgusting. The fact that anyone on this thread is trying to say it's ok is a bit odd. Is there any other circumstance where you'd argue that there's not a problem with leaving shit in a bag somewhere as long as it was eventually collected?

Hamsterriffic · 16/04/2020 08:01

If there’s no bin I’ll leave the bag to one side to collect on the way back... I would never dangle it in a tree!

snappycamper · 16/04/2020 08:01

100% this.

Sohardtochooseausername · 16/04/2020 08:02

It is disgusting. Dog owners who do this are selfish and disgusting.

I go running with a friend and her dog and she runs and carries the bag. So there is no excuse. She also picks up other people’s litter. (Obviously I don’t go with her at the moment.)

burritofan · 16/04/2020 08:03

Literally everything @Thefifthbeatle said, with bells on.

"I come back for my horrid little sack of poo, so it's OK" isn't OK! I went for my walking ration with DD yesterday along the canal: gorgeous spring day, blossom for miles, sunshine, ducklings – and every tree adorned with dozens of tragic black bag shit baubles to ruin the view and piss on everyone's chips. Life's hard enough for everyone right now, a brief bit of fresh air somewhere nice – particularly as we've not got access to a garden – is a lot of people's only pleasure, and it's spoiled by selfish dog owners and this "Ugh, take responsibility for my faeces? Are you mad? It's gross, I'll leave it to dangle in everyone's eye-line for an hour instead" attitude. Fuck the lot of you.

wishfull888 · 16/04/2020 08:03

You don't pick it back up though , do you? Your dog, your poo bag, your problem. Why should we have to look at it / pick it up for you on our dog free walk?
If you think it's so vile to carry poo around on your dog walk, don't have a dog. Simple.

AddressLabel · 16/04/2020 08:06

Poo bag with tie handles.
Small lightweight carribiner.
Dog harness.
Pick up dog shit, attach to dogs harness. Dog carries their own shit, job done.
Alternatively, get one of these and attach to the lead, has a little clip to attach the poop bag.

I live near a very popular local walk with loads of families and dog owners. Bins only in the two car parks 4 miles apart at either entrance. I will see a few poo bags on route but they must be removed by their owners as there is no poo bag mountains anywhere I walk. I don’t see it as a problem for responsible dog owners as it can work.

I have years ago had a poo bag split on me from being continually slapped against my leg Envy

As for putting it in your pocket. I have two big dogs, this is not miniature poodle shit you tuck into your Rab and forget about.

testing987654321 · 16/04/2020 08:07

I have never seen a bag if poo on the ground and thought "oh that's ok, the owner will be picking that up on their way back!"

Exactly. Apparently I walk around near lots of similarly responsible dog owners, or lots who inexplicably bag it up and then just leave it. The responsible owners need.a solid bag to carry it in so no-one else gets the impression just leaving it on the ground is okay.

LaurieMarlow · 16/04/2020 08:08

In what other circumstance is it okay to leave your rubbish lying around ‘so long as you collect it later’ Confused

Not to mention that in this case it’s actual bags of shit we’re talking about.

It’s revolting. I can’t believe people have such low standards.

TheNavigator · 16/04/2020 08:09

People always claim they leave it in a bag to pick it up later. So how come on the main walks round my village I see bags and bags of poo, by the side of footpaths, on fences, tied to trees. Faded and old. The shit would have biodegraded if it hadn't been bagged but the plastic litter and shit remains.

If you pick the poo up, take it with you. Don't pretend to yourself you will go back to it. The evidence is there - you usually don't.

LaurieMarlow · 16/04/2020 08:10

Your dogs, your choices, fucking deal with it

Wolfiefan · 16/04/2020 08:10

It’s grim. We also have poo trees round here. Hanging off a branch. Then leaving it.
If it is too grim for you to carry round? Then it’s certainly too grim to leave for others to step round.
Get a Dicky Bag. Problem solved.

Wolfiefan · 16/04/2020 08:11

@Harrykanesrightsock
I have wolfhounds. I still don’t leave shit lying about.
But no. I wouldn’t put it in my pocket. Shock Happy to carry it though.
Dicky bags are fab!!!

TheNavigator · 16/04/2020 08:12

No ones problem but yours. Do you dump all your rubbish to pick up later? It is your dogs' shit, you carry it with you and dispose of it. No one forced you to own two big dogs - carrying their shit on walks until you get to a bin is a key part of responsible dog ownership. If you can't do that, then you are not suitable to own dogs.
