...ground, even if you intend to pick them up on your way back is selfish and inconsiderate of others

I guess if you had a bag of wrappers post picnic on the beach I’d be fine with you leaving it while you swam and taking it up to the bin in the car park at the end. I’m not sure why it’s so hard to understand that your ideas about what is clean/acceptable are not universal
Having a base at the beach whilst swimming isn't comparable to dumping dog poo bags.

If swimming at the beach then any food or wrappers remain with my stuff at the spot where we are based. I don't walk off leaving a pile of rubbish.

If I changed DC nappy at the beach then I wouldn't leave a dirty nappy on the sand with my things. I'd put it in the bin because you don't leave bags of poo lying around.

Would you be happy with someone going walking in the hills leaving a bag of rubbish half way up their climb on the grounds "I'll pick it up on the way back later because I don't want to carry it"?

Would you be happy with people leaving dog poo bags on the beach on the grounds "I'm coming back this way and if I don't like the bin placement then I can just leave poo wherever is convenient to me"?

Most people don't consider littering and leaving bags of shit around the place to be ok.

80sMum · 17/04/2020 10:29

If people pick them up on the way back then I don't have an issue with it. No sense in carrying it around for an hour is there?

What?! Is this a serious question? Good God! Of course there is point in the dog owner carrying it with them, for as long as it takes, an hour, six hours or whatever. Their dog produced excrement in a public place so they should bloody well pick it up and keep it!!

Dogs should be trained to poo in their owners' back gardens imo.

5zeds · 17/04/2020 10:29

Grin yeah you know ALL about me.

I think it’s fine. You don’t. I think the solution to multiple bags at one point in a walk is to provide a bin. You don’t.

Since it’s a fairly safe bet that none of us are doing this, beyond name calling and dna dog poop detective-ing what do you think will actually solve it. I suggest more appropriately positioned bins.

LolaSmiles · 17/04/2020 10:34

I think the solution is that people take their dog's poo to a bin, write to the council requesting better dog poo bins, and if there's no bin then you don't dump bags of shit around the place.

If everyone took the view of drop rubbish wherever if I don't like how far it is to the next bin then the streets would be filled with litter.

Thankfully most people consider littering unacceptable.

LaurieMarlow · 17/04/2020 10:37

yeah you know ALL about me.

Thinking this behaviour is acceptable says a lot about you, yes.

5zeds · 17/04/2020 10:39

I think your responses say a fair bit about you, but I wouldn’t claim to know you.

ginghamstarfish · 17/04/2020 10:40

Dog owners can be filthy bastards.

That I don’t think it’s acceptable for people to leave shit lying around. Yes.

LolaSmiles · 17/04/2020 10:44

I can't believe it's even up for discussion whether it's acceptable to leave bags of shit lying around.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/04/2020 10:44

I would be extremely annoyed if anyone came on my land without my permission.

Most footpaths are on someone's land, but they aren't allowed to bar against litter louts.

You don’t. I think the solution to multiple bags at one point in a walk is to provide a bin.

Oh, it's not just at one point, but I was giving an example where there is a bin not far away and people CBA to use it.

There are many other places which don't have bins where people manage perfectly well. The bins aren't necessary, all that's needed is for everyone to behave responsibly.

Alsohuman · 17/04/2020 10:46

Dog owners can be filthy bastards

So can non dog owners.

LaurieMarlow · 17/04/2020 10:46

I know right?

My mind is blown by people trying to defend the indefensible. Confused

LaurieMarlow · 17/04/2020 10:48

Sure. But in fairness, they aren’t decorating the pavement and countryside with little packets of shit.

Or if they were, the authorities would be looking into it (which says it all really).

MRex · 17/04/2020 10:51

@5zeds - just stop being disgusting, the issue isn't bins because we simply can't have a constant row of bins everywhere you choose to walk. Even where there are bins within 25m I see poo bags left, the issue is the dog walkers who won't carry the bags to the next bin. I have to try navigating pavements with a toddler and these poo bags, including ones that have been splattered because a car or bike drove over them, it's revolting. Just pick up your bags.

PapayaCoconut · 17/04/2020 10:52

I'd love to walk my kids to school (when they reopen) without doing the doggie do-do side step every day.

Me too. And I'd also prefer it if I didn't have to risk bringing dog poo from split bags and un-bagged turds into my hallway by way of buggy and scooter wheels every day. This happens to be several times a week. My youngest crawls, wants to touch everything (especially buggy wheels, which are apparently irresistible) and is constantly rubbing her face and putting her little hands in her mouth.

I think it’s fine. You don’t.

Great argument. If you think antisocial behaviour is OK, that must make it so, right? Are you one of those people who think both sides of the flat earth "debate" are equally valid? 😅

ErrolTheDragon · 17/04/2020 10:53

Leaving aside for a moment the possibility of well hidden, always retrieved bags... presumably no one has any excuse to make for the bags in hedges or trees which are clearly irretrievable? I can't begin to imagine the thought process than goes in to bagging a turd and lobbing it.

PapayaCoconut · 17/04/2020 11:00

I can't begin to imagine the thought process than goes in to bagging a turd and lobbing it.

It goes like this: "I'm going to pick this up because people are looking, pretend to take it away with me to avoid confrontation and then throw it away into a bush when nobody sees me, because dog poo is gross and I'm a pwincess who doesn't have to do gross things."

LolaSmiles · 17/04/2020 11:01

This cracked me up. Grin

It's probably because they were being responsible citizens and sparing fellow citizens from encountering the poo. By lobbing it and turning it into poo baubles they were really doing a good deed, after all some of you on this thread are hysterical for finding an issue with abandoned piles of shit. If they can't abandon it on the floor and they cand hang it in a tree then what's a person to do?
Wink

ErrolTheDragon · 17/04/2020 11:02

Dogs should be trained to poo in their owners' back gardens imo.

Mine does, but even if he's gone just before we left the house, he always seems to manage to do another near the start of a walk and another on a long walk after we've had our lunch (he gets biscuits).

LaurieMarlow · 17/04/2020 11:12

and I'm a pwincess who doesn't have to do gross things.

But I still want a dog. Because they’re cute.

And I’m a child and can’t take responsibility for my actions.

CasperGutman · 17/04/2020 11:23

There are dozens, literally dozens of bags of dog crap by the sports changing rooms in the park near me. And in the grounds of the hospital, where the staff probably have more important things to do at the moment than empty outside rubbish bins, there are piles of plastic poo bags next to the bin.

Even if you plan to pick it up later, leaving it for others to step over is disgusting. I really can't understand why people would bag up crap in order to make it last longer on the ground, so it seems obvious that even if they intend to pick it up on the way home, some people forget. Just take it with you, for fuck's sake.

RebelWhoWashesFor19Seconds · 17/04/2020 11:37

I HATED picking up my dog's shit. To be fair they were Great Danes so we're talking carrier bag size than itty bitty poop bags but I still did when they crapped outside. But if people really, really don't want to do it, then why not let the dog out first to do its business in the garden and then go for a walk? Of course it's not a guarantee they won't poop on a walk but it reduces the chances. So why don't they do this? Well I suspect it's because they don't want their own dog's shit on their garden to clean up. I genuinely think that anyone who receives a fine more than once for not picking up and disposing of poop properly should earn themselves a ban from keeping dogs. There is no excuse.

LaurieMarlow · 17/04/2020 11:42

I could not agree with this more.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/04/2020 11:48

It might be good if rather than a fine, the penalty could be community service in the form of litter picking (including the dog shits).
