Positive news at last Smile

I think this is amazing! Yes he's not out there shaking the collection tin but this fella has absolutely captured a lot of people's imaginations and has so far raised almost four million quid in the space of about three days.

He's walking laps of his garden in batches but he has more energy than me for heaven's sake!

i think queenie should break protocol and make him a sir for his birthday.

BikeRunSki · 16/04/2020 08:49

He’s done it! £12M!, 100 laps and a guard of honour from his old regiment. The Yorkshire Regiment of course!

Tattiebee · 16/04/2020 08:53

He is absolutely fantastic, I have loved seeing the total go up, I hope he is really proud of himself; what a wonderful man. I have donated, it's quite hard to know which charities are more beneficial to donate to, but couldn't resist. I hope he gets acknowledgment from the queen as well.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 16/04/2020 10:37

It's amazing! The Duke of Westminster donated £12.5m and this lovely gentleman is about to smash that!

Makeitgoaway · 16/04/2020 10:40

The pictures of the guard of honour made me cry and then I thought, Oh wasn't that an unnecessary risk? regardless of the 2m etc Sad

FlyingPandas · 16/04/2020 10:41

It’s one of the lovely stories that will be remembered for years I hope. He’s absolutely brilliant and every time I read about him it makes me smile.

DoW is one of the richest men in the country, if not the richest. It’s pocket change to him. Capt Tom’s efforts are a much more meaningful gesture. Don’t let DoW overshadow Capt Tom!

BabyDues00n88 · 16/04/2020 10:49

Captain Tom is a real hero

Meh not really, they seem a sensible distance from him, they wouldn't have gone around his house touching stuff, and the garden area was probably cleaned afterwards. It's business as usual at the moment for a lot of the military albeit with some adjustments, but they wouldn't have done it if the risk had outweighed the benefit to him. It was a lovely way to mark his 100th, I know what you mean though, I keep watching TV and finding it really odd how close people are etc haha.

Please don't mistake my post as kudos for the DoW. The pocket change comment was the point I was trying to make Grin its such a lovely think for Capt Tom to have done and I'm so pleased his efforts have been rewarded.

I think it's kind of the duke to donate a big blob like that, regardless of how much he still has.
Jeff bezos is reportedly making 11k a second because we're all buying more on Amazon. He could do so much for healthcare. All these billionaires trying to get to space when there's so much they could do on earth.
Oh well, I'm still delighted for captain Tom Smile

Captain Tom. Superstar. Gladly donated.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/04/2020 11:23

Tbf, whilst he's not a patch on Capt Tom, this think it's kind of the duke to donate a big blob like that, regardless of how much he still has.. It would be ose change for lots of people, I doubt many worlds still do it. Boris needs to a leaf out of Jacindas book imo and give his a pay cut. Could ask be donated to this charity

TSSDNCOP · 16/04/2020 12:56

Thin end of the wedge asking MH and politicians to take pay cuts. Every time there is any kind of disaster eg awful flood the cry would go up.

As others have said, the footballers were all getting paid for FU when club employees were being laid off. Not really the same.

Every time Captain Tom notches up another milestone I have a little teary moment.

I’m going to donate.

RosesandIris · 16/04/2020 14:06

What he’s doing actually has made me cry. What an amazing man he is.

GinghamStyle · 16/04/2020 14:13

I’ve just had an email from Change.org - a petition has been started to get Captain Moore knighted

RosesandIris · 16/04/2020 15:53

Signed

Redglitter · 16/04/2020 15:56

Wow his total is now at €14.3 million. What an achievement. He deserves an award far more than the celebrity types who so often get it.

JellyfishandShells · 16/04/2020 15:58

He seemed really touched by the military guard of honour- well done, whoever organised that.

Womenwotlunch · 16/04/2020 16:00

Sir Tom..., hopefully

loobyloo1234 · 16/04/2020 16:06

What a man. His family must be so proud of him

lightyearsahead · 16/04/2020 16:14

Have been following him since about £2M, what a fabulous achievement. A wonderful human being. He has made news overseas as far as Oz as well.Lovely feel good story.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/04/2020 16:22

That change petition is crashing.

People want to see Sir Tom!

Lovely, good for him.

HeretoThereandBackAgain · 16/04/2020 17:27

Absolutely amazing! So nice to see a positive story amidst all the bad news. Have donated, will definitely send a card as well!
