Positive news at last Smile

I think this is amazing! Yes he's not out there shaking the collection tin but this fella has absolutely captured a lot of people's imaginations and has so far raised almost four million quid in the space of about three days.

He's walking laps of his garden in batches but he has more energy than me for heaven's sake!

Gal Gadot and her celebrity friends assaulted our ears with her cringeworthy singing of imagine. It is on you tube if you think your ears are put to listening to it.

Piers Morgan donated the £10k two days ago live of tv. He is also spearheading the campaign to get Tom knighted.
Most the time I want to slap piers but sometimes he does do something good.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/04/2020 23:35

Oh no I know what you mean. Cringe

SleepingStandingUp · 15/04/2020 23:36

ok credit where its due to piers

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 15/04/2020 23:36

JustStayHome · 15/04/2020 23:36

Its 10 million pounds now !!!!!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/04/2020 23:39

Captain Tom has really captured the mood of the nation.

Well over £10m raised and possibly created the first time I have ever agreed with Piers Morgan.

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2020 23:41

I think everyone has fallen in love with Captain Tom because he is the only good news story for weeks. As well as being an absolute superstar.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/04/2020 23:42

For the hard of thinking...
The money is going to NHS Charities Together
www.nhscharitiestogether.co.uk/

Not to the general NHS budget!

Threelionsandalioness · 15/04/2020 23:55

Captain tom is a legend ! Well deserved of a knighthood and a telephone call from the queen
This situation has made me say and do a lot of things out of the ordinary but i never thought i would ever say thank you piers morgan thats for sure !

Aquamarine1029 · 15/04/2020 23:59

I donated and I just love this sweet man. He is an inspiration.

Aridane · 16/04/2020 00:00

I think, and I'm sure Captain Moore would agree, that the money spent on cards and postage should be donated instead

Except you’re not Captain Moore

and people can do both...

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 16/04/2020 00:18

it's £10.5m now, plus over £2m gift aid - hope he doesn't have a heart attack!

birthday cards to Marston Moretaine - I used to know a lovely restaurant there.

On the comments on the Just Giving fee - yes it's a lot, but don't underestimate the resources it would take a charity to record, process and claim the gift aid.

RosesandIris · 16/04/2020 00:19

I read about this and was just blown away. How do I donate?

SleepingStandingUp · 16/04/2020 00:21

I think they've waived the fee but asked people to donate a quid or two specifically

SleepingStandingUp · 16/04/2020 00:22

Rose the link is in the Op

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 16/04/2020 00:23

SleepingStandingUp · 16/04/2020 00:26

No platform fee which I assume is their commission

To be amazed by the 99 year old who has raised four million quid
saraclara · 16/04/2020 00:41

I think he'd be a bit pissed off at being called sweet. That's so patronising to a guy with his sort of army career. I really dislike the infantilising of people when they get old.

And though I think the money raised is fantastic, the card thing reminds me of the family who originally wanted cards for their little boy in hospital, but it became a huge burden when hundreds of sacks of mail turned up.

I'm unconvinced that he and the family would want that.

Horsemad · 16/04/2020 08:20

£12 million+ now! 😃

cushioncovers · 16/04/2020 08:34

I'm following his progress and it's just brilliant.

One nosey question is that his family's back garden or a nursing home he's walking up and down?

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2020 08:38

Incredible

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/04/2020 08:40

A phenomenal story, has really made me smile during such a shite time for everyone.
Amazing man!!!!!!!

Samcro · 16/04/2020 08:40

wow and he only want to raise 1 thousand

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 16/04/2020 08:43

I do wonder if Joe Public really understands the cost of the state. £9m is a great amount to raise but it's going to make zero difference to any of the NHS's staff

Biscuit

Just donated! He is a truly marvelous man and negative nellies stfu! Shhhhhh!

googlepoodle · 16/04/2020 08:47

It’s his back garden I think - he lives with his daughter.
