Positive news at last Smile

I think this is amazing! Yes he's not out there shaking the collection tin but this fella has absolutely captured a lot of people's imaginations and has so far raised almost four million quid in the space of about three days.

He's walking laps of his garden in batches but he has more energy than me for heaven's sake!

I'm confused a bit because on their website it does say they don't charge a commission in the UK but a Google search claims they do.

Hmm.

In any case I hope Mr Moore doesn't go into shock when he sees the total Star

@thisismytimetoshine I totally agree.

Oh I've found an updated article that says in March 2019 they dropped their 5% platform fee.

They aren't charging a platform fee for this one I believe 😁

Come on someone like Branson, this is the time for Match Giving!!

Likethebattle · 15/04/2020 12:30

He’s made of stern stuff. I will donate today for him. What a wee ⭐️

TSSDNCOP · 15/04/2020 12:31

Just donated!

PaddyF0dder · 15/04/2020 12:33

I think it’s awful.

Not awful of the old man. Good for him. What an achievement.

But the NHS shouldn’t need this. It’s a public resource. It should be funded adequately. But instead it’s not.

And I worry that the publicity for this case absolves the government of responsibility.

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2020 12:37

I totally agree with @PaddyF0dder, but I Capt. Tom!

Spidey66 · 15/04/2020 12:49

PattyF0dder, while I agree with you, it's for NHS Charities rather than the NHS itself. Would this be, for instance additional things for the NHS for example toys/books for pediatric (sp) wards, something for McDonalds charities for accommodation close to hospitals for parents of sick children to stay in?

When my mum was battling cancer, she got a lot of help from Macmillan Care, they do stuff like counselling, and she used to attend a centre at the hospital where she'd get complementary therapies like aromatherapy massages. IMO, this is the areas where Tom's fundraising should go to, rather than for ventilators, PPE, etc which should be funded from the public purse.

Spidey66 · 15/04/2020 12:49

Sorry, that should be PaddyFodder not PattyFodder.

TSSDNCOP · 15/04/2020 12:50

Agree, the equivalent to raising money for the sofa that Calendar Girls was based on. It's going to be a fuck off sofa.

HarrySnotter · 15/04/2020 12:58

Amazing isn't it. 😊

june2007 · 15/04/2020 13:07

It is good but he did it because someone got the media involved and thay are promoting and providing links, If it wasn,t on TV No way would he have made that, so well done to the people who decided to contact the media.

Howgreenwasmyvalley · 15/04/2020 13:09

They are asking for everyone to send him a birthday card for his 100th birthday on 30th April.

Captain Tom Moore,

Howgreenwasmyvalley · 15/04/2020 13:11

June2007
I know his great nephew is a Junior Doctor, so maybe it started from there.

FlowerArranger · 15/04/2020 13:30

They are asking for everyone to send him a birthday card for his 100th birthday on 30th April.

Who is they?

I think, and I'm sure Captain Moore would agree, that the money spent on cards and postage should be donated instead.

I'm sure he'll get plenty of birthday wishes without thousands of us sending cards.

Maybe someone has his email address?

Tonz · 15/04/2020 13:44

What an absolute Legend Captain Tom. Amazing achievement

Didiusfalco · 15/04/2020 13:46

I love the fact that at 99 someone can still do something to make such a substantial difference. Completely inspiring.

LakieLady · 15/04/2020 13:57

I'm with you, @PenCreed & @PennyFOdder. It's a bloody disgrace that the NHS needs to rely on charitable donations. Tax exiles like Green and
Branson could write a cheque for that and not even notice.

I take my hat off to this guy though, despite my views.

CoronaIsComing · 15/04/2020 14:00

Yes the people who are supporting him and contacted the media are doing a great job, but it’s Tom himself who has captured the hearts of the nation. Nearly 7 million is an absolutely staggering amount to raise so it’s clearly something about him that people are responding to!

SleepingStandingUp · 15/04/2020 14:06

Come on someone like Branson, this is the time for Match Giving!! thing is that would take the focus off Capt Tom and the media would make it about Branson.

googlepoodle · 15/04/2020 16:52

He’s a great speaker as well - he’s very positive and uplifting to listen to. See his interview with Piers Morgan on you tube. This has made me teary today. He’s up to 7.7 million and will be over 8m with gift aid.

Troels · 15/04/2020 17:03

Wonderful man and an inspiring one too.

gk6277 · 15/04/2020 20:41

Now at £9.3million. Amazing. Captain Tom's efforts should inspire us all to do something too, volunteer, fund raise, or even just stay indoors. A legend. 👍😃
