Why are the one show and this morning still on? With guests?

Just turned into bbc and I'm surprised the one show is still on every night and live! They've even had guests in the studio (gabby Logan tonight!) and random guest presenters with Alex Jones each week!

I'd be hard pressed to argue that this was essential journalism...

Similarly with this morning...

When the rest of us are being told to only go to work if we cannot work from home!

It just seems unnecessary to me!

yeah we all need eamon holmes banging on about covd being from 5g-informative stuff

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/04/2020 23:17

Gabsalot - whut?
I don't think even TM would "bang on about 5G being linked to Covid" - have they?
If they have I stand corrected and I despair as much as you then lol
Do you have a link?
Or is it yet another unsubstantiated rant MN seems to be crawling with lately Confused
More likely it's still on as not only do they have light relief segments like cooking or dancing, but they have experts too - there was an anxiety phone in the other week for example which was interesting and helpful to people.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 14/04/2020 23:25

Eamonn Holmes and his comments on 5G have been all over the radio news bulletins today.

Rummikub · 14/04/2020 23:29

Yes I've read that about Eamon's comments on 5G. Idiotic yes. Did he retract?
But I still think those programmes fulfil a purpose.

There you go

What an utter idiot that man is.

Boredbumhead · 14/04/2020 23:35

The One Show is the BBC's flagship live current affairs broadcast. It's considered essential

Well we really have reached the depths of media journalism haven't we. It's mundane shite.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/04/2020 23:42

OK, I stand corrected - he's an idiot for saying that then.
That said, I still think the programme serves a purpose to have a normal routine for some, helplines to phone in and light relief "fluff" segments like cooking or whatever.

CoffeeRevelLove · 15/04/2020 05:39

I think people are forgetting that it's not only 'essential' staff at work. It's anyone that can't work from home. For many lonely, socially isolated people, it's probably a lifeline for light familiarity

Rockbird · 15/04/2020 06:44

I don't watch the shows above but I do like to have Jeremy Vine's show on in the background at the moment as my mum likes it and it makes me feel like I'm round there watching it with her.

SpanishFly · 15/04/2020 07:04

Normality.
Consistency.
Lightheartedness.
All things that are essential for mental health. Whether or not you even watch them.
If they weren't on, half of you would be moaning about the bbc showing repeats.

Bloomburger · 15/04/2020 07:23

I used to ask DH that very question even before Covid 19 reared it's ugly head.
