Why are the one show and this morning still on? With guests?

Just turned into bbc and I'm surprised the one show is still on every night and live! They've even had guests in the studio (gabby Logan tonight!) and random guest presenters with Alex Jones each week!

I'd be hard pressed to argue that this was essential journalism...

Similarly with this morning...

When the rest of us are being told to only go to work if we cannot work from home!

It just seems unnecessary to me!

Because they are keeping people informed about what is going on.

They are working on skeleton staff and all presenters are keeping well apart from each other

TheWordmeister · 14/04/2020 19:17

Can’t really see what either of them bring in terms of news. I watched This Morning today and a news programme it wasn’t. It was in fact, a load of froth and bollocks.

BirthdayCakes · 14/04/2020 19:18

Because they are keeping people informed about what is going on

Hmmm - have you ever seen the One Show?

WickedlyPetite · 14/04/2020 19:21

I've just turned over from The One Show, it's dire. They are certainly not 'keeping people informed about what is going on' and it's not even particularly entertaining.

Mammyloveswine · 14/04/2020 19:24

@Sirzy but it's a magazine show, it's not a news program!

There's little in the way of actually informing people of the facts of the COVID 19 outbreak!

I know they are social distancing but Gabby Logan as a guest?? Come on!

Pinkblueberry · 14/04/2020 19:25

We don’t watch either, it definitely isn’t essential. Especially ‘This Morning’. I had enough of that after only 2 weeks of maternity leave. Essential service my arse - they really are flattering themselves. And to the PP saying it’s keeping people informed - you’re thinking of ‘The News’.

Boredbumhead · 14/04/2020 19:26

I was wondering this too. Why are they still filming ffs?

IFancyANamechange · 14/04/2020 19:27

Why does it matter?

LagunaBubbles · 14/04/2020 19:28

I like watching This Morning when I'm off, can't speak for The One Show as I don't watch that but watching programmes for entertainment for lots of people is quite essential especially because people will be stuck in more.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 14/04/2020 19:29

Actually some of us may like some frothy lighthearted entertainment as a much needed break from the relentless news and corona updates with constant depressing stats.

LilacTree1 · 14/04/2020 19:30

“ Why does it matter?”

If they’re allowed to keep those shows going, then ordinary folk should be allowed to visit other households. Do they guarantee none of the presenters, staff, guests etc are using public transport?

Generally, if you’re allowed to do non essential work with social distancing there’s a whole bunch of other stuff that should be allowed too.

Sirzy · 14/04/2020 19:31

No the news is for the serious stuff about it. Understandably.

These shows for those who want to watch them can provide a look at things from a different angle, they can talk to people who can help and entertain from a different angle.?

Cynara · 14/04/2020 19:33

Agree absolutely, it's shite at the best of times with absolutely no claim to journalism. I'd be happy to see it scrapped under any circumstances, never mind now, when there's no justification whatsoever for its continued existence.

Mammyloveswine · 14/04/2020 19:34

@LilacTree1 I agree!

I don't knot why they couldn't do them from home like ant and dec!

OP posts:
Rummikub · 14/04/2020 19:34

To keep the nation entertained during lockdown

WickedlyPetite · 14/04/2020 19:35

Huh? Confused

TheFairyCaravan · 14/04/2020 19:36

This Morning haven't had guests in the studio for weeks now. It's only Phil & Holly or Eamonn & Ruth, everyone else joins in via video link

Redcherries · 14/04/2020 19:37

People can still work, I think this gets forgotten, however is there a reason they can’t do it from home? I don’t watch either?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/04/2020 19:37

Never watched the One Show so don't know about that, but I do sometimes watch This Morning - there's two presenters and they sit well apart.
Don't know what you've seen to think there's guests?
Everyone on it have been doing video links from home Confused

Mammyloveswine · 14/04/2020 19:39

It might have been a few weeks ago that this morning had guests on but the one show have had guests every night!

OP posts:
alltripe · 14/04/2020 19:40

Broadcasters are essential workers. They are functioning with absolutely minimum staff and sticking to social distancing. I am grateful that there is at least something that’s not news on TV.

I have no idea why so many people on here want everything to be so bloody miserable.

alltripe · 14/04/2020 19:42

If you don’t like it, no-one is forcing you to watch it. Try the off button Angry

TheFairyCaravan · 14/04/2020 19:44

It might have been a few weeks ago that this morning had guests on but the one show have had guests every night!

Yes, Gabby Logan was on tonight. She was sitting well away from the presenters.

bobstersmum · 14/04/2020 19:45

Well Eamon and Ruth live together anyway. There will be bare minimum camera crew keeping more of a distance than the shoppers next to you in the supermarket. There has to be something on that's not a repeat for those stuck in that see it as part of their daily routine. The news is still on should that be stopped?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/04/2020 19:50

It may have been a few weeks ago
So maybe get your facts straight before publicly moaning how wrong it is/unnecessary?
Sorry but this peddling of things as true when they're not and constant negativity from some is starting to get on my tits now Grin
Makes me wonder if The One Show "having people in" is just as untrue.
Why is it unnecessary anyway? Why aren't we allowed a bit of light relief/entertainment?
I was watching Alison Hammond bake banana bread the other morning.
(From her home via video link!)
Plus you've got your spinny wheel competition where people can phone in and try to win some cash (I see the holidays have gone off the wheel now funnily enough Grin )
Something light-hearted. Or do we all have to be sat watching the news anxiously waiting for new corona updates/death tolls?
