AIBU to think people should not smoke/vape in queue?

So the queue at Supermarket is quite a long snaking queue but people are smoking and vaping and I have to stand there and just accept it? I complained to the store and every little did not help as they said it’s in the car park. I’m stood 2m away with someone’s second hand vape billowing across - surely smoking in the queue should be stopped?

What about all the vehicle emissions that you're breathing in whilst queuing in the car park?

MamaBearLockdown · 14/04/2020 17:58

YANBU

vaping is just as bad as smoking, it stinks and people

If it's banned in train station, even the outdoor platform, of course people should not doing it in queues, and show a minimum of manners.

The supermarket should ban it, their private car park, their rules.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/04/2020 17:59

I would have thought the last thing people should be doing whilst there is a virus that impacts your lungs is smoking or vaping.

I think it is very anti social whilst people are standing in queues.

Applemum10 · 14/04/2020 18:05

I was told that it was in the car park so they couldn’t stop it and yes I did argue that if I sat there revving my car up and letting the exhaust blow all over people that they would be ok with that then? It’s quite a big car park and they have sectioned off a part and made rows with trolleys like a slalom that you follow - it’s not like I can leave the queue - surely not smoking for half an hour is not going to kill you??

Wear a mask then

Applemum10 · 14/04/2020 18:09

Yes Howfar12 I do - there are small children and even babies in the queue - one peak right behind a smoker and you can see the poor mum doesn’t know which way to turn... maybe she has no choice to bring her baby out - I just think it’s a bit rude and unnecessary

YANBU, it's anti-social.

Not something I can get too fussed about though, once a week in queue.

Ffsnosexallowed · 14/04/2020 18:11

Vaping is nowhere near as bad as smoking. Stand further apart if it annoys you.

Fimofriend · 14/04/2020 18:12

@Howfar12 Wear a mask? How would that remove the smell?

Applemum10 · 14/04/2020 18:14

Worraliberty if I was in the queue once a week maybe it wouldn’t bother me so much but being a volunteer and shopping for quite a few people at different times of the day - I just think surely you can wait an extra 30/40 mins?

OP posts:
Applemum10 · 14/04/2020 18:18

@Ffsnosexallowed has that vape not come from your lungs then?

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 14/04/2020 18:20

Can't you do your shopping for the people at the same time?

My neighbour volunteers and does 3 lots at once.

stopandListen · 14/04/2020 18:26

I'm a smoker and quite a heavy one at that. I would never smoke in a que, especially during these circumstances and I think it's totally selfish. Either have one before you start to que up or after your shop.

Applemum10 · 14/04/2020 18:27

@WorraLiberty yes today I shopped for 4 people - tomorrow I will shop for 2 ( unless an urgent request comes through) I shop for lots of different people and try to do as many as I can together but some like different supermarkets so I have to try and put all those together too - on top of working and then shopping for myself believe me the less times I can go I do but why should i have to put up with other people’s vape/smoke?

OP posts:
Howfar12 · 14/04/2020 18:32

It’s harsh OP, but they don’t care. It’s legal, so you’ll have to put up with it

Ffsnosexallowed · 14/04/2020 18:33

Vape has come from my lungs in the same way that my breath has, whats your point??

Shmithecat2 · 14/04/2020 18:36

@Ffsnosexallowed

Vape has come from my lungs in the same way that my breath has, whats your point??

That's what I'm wondering 🤔

Applemum10 · 14/04/2020 18:36

@Ffsnosexallowed vape / smoke is breathed out a lot harder and further than normal breath - that is my point

OP posts:
opticaldelusion · 14/04/2020 18:36

This doesn't happen at Waitrose.

mayoral · 14/04/2020 18:36

Why would you complain to the supermarket?? They're not doing anything illegal, or even unlawful.

I'm a non-smoker and I can't get worked up by this.

Dontlikeoranges · 14/04/2020 18:36

Uuurgh I hate this! I'm asthmatic and is her really wheezy standing next to someone smoking

WorraLiberty · 14/04/2020 18:36

on top of working and then shopping for myself believe me the less times I can go I do but why should i have to put up with other people’s vape/smoke?

Because the supermarkets won't put signs up asking people not to do it?

Dontlikeoranges · 14/04/2020 18:37

I'd get really wheezy that should have said

User18492725204065241 · 14/04/2020 18:38

I'm a smoker and wouldn't be selfish enough to do so in a queue. Especially in the current climate. Unfortunately there's nothing the supermarket can really do, so it's something people will have to put up with.

TSSDNCOP · 14/04/2020 18:41

Nope. Cannot find it in myself to get worked up on this.

I can get worked up that, having stood happily in such a queue for 45 minutes today, the number of mostly male shoppers that leant across me in the store rather than keep their fucking distance.

It seems that COVID distance, much like penis length, is a staggering mathematical challenge.
