My neighbour has ruined my night.

I'm bottom floor flat with my living room window on the street, no front garden. It's a busy street with everyone out walking as we're near a country park and it's a nice area to walk. So I like sitting of an evening watching everyone go by and loving all the dogs out for a evening's constitutional.
My neighbour has had the absolute cheek to park his big fucking van outside my window blocking my view of half the street. WIBU to chap his door and make up some story as to why he needs to move it?
This is the biggest parking drama ever to happen in the street as everyone is very respectful and considerate so I may be overreacting. Slightly.

You could change the view regularly. Maybe a seascape this week, mountain views next week. Whatever you fancy.
Depending on your budget, you could DIY or splash out on the fancy mural prints, or even the magnetic ones suggested by a previous pp.

The world is your oyster.

Its embarrassing how nasty some of the early replies are

Only one was nasty.

Move to a house with a garden and a view, unreasonable to live somewhere without one but expect people to modify their behaviour to give you one.

jillybeanclevertips · 16/04/2020 08:47

I don't think it would unreasonable to ask him nicely in a neighbourly way to move it, if you explain that it's upsetting to you, and why. Then at least you know where you stand.

I've never understood why people don't RTFT. At least skim it to get the gist!

Good morning OP! Desperately need an update: is the dastardly van still ruining your view? I hope normality has now been restored.
Your fantastic drawing got me thinking. Clearly you have an incredible artistic talent & therefore should be producing and selling your works far & wide! This would raise funds to ensure you can move somewhere with unobstructed views galore = problem solved!
If van is still there, showcase your talents by chalking a creation on the side which will advertise your abilities AND give you a more pleasant vision to gaze upon.
Also definitely do not dispose of van owner by feeding to ddog - clearly someone as appallingly selfish & unthinking as van man will taste rancid & possibly poison poor dog. HTH! 😊

I understand your frustration at this, I think it’s unreasonable of a homeowners to use their street to park a large commercial vehicles outside anyone’s house, thus blocking view and light. These are domestic car park spaces. Sadly the law will be on their side. Try explaining how it’s impacts on you and that you would be really grateful to him if at all possible not to park it outside. Good luck.

I’d be out with magic markers in the middle of the night painting hazard signs on it and a great big word merely stating ‘radioactive’

It would soon be shifted.

And you could get back to watching your goldfish walkers

I can't quite envisage the situation, but if he is blocking your view instead of his own then by all means have a chat with him, but if he moved it in such a way that he blocked his view but you could still only see half the street then no point.
I can recall a neighbour of my childhood who spent her time peeping round the side curtain in her bay window. We often wondered if she had the curtain made with a permanent kink in it so she didn't have to constantly hold it back!
