Where have all the biblical classic films gone?

I know that Easter isn't celebrated by everyone but just as Elf etc. Is on every Christmas on TV where have all the grand biblical films from my youth gone? This was part of an Easter ritual in my household, sitting down to watch an epic marathon long film.
I really miss them and I'm sure many older than me do too.
Does anyone else miss them?

Christian films aren't allowed any more because it's the majority religion imposing their beliefs on minorities. Or something.

Middle class Christian TV executives have decided on this. I doubt that any member of a minority religion would care.

Ninkanink · 13/04/2020 12:05

NowTV has Ben Hur and the Ten Commandments.

nitgel · 13/04/2020 12:06

Jesus of nazareth was on sky arts. With robert powel

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 13/04/2020 12:07

My God they were diabolical

funnylittlefloozie · 13/04/2020 12:07

The Ten Commandments was on yesterday, and Jesus of Nazareth was on on Saturday afternoon.

BigBairyHollocks · 13/04/2020 12:07

The Greatest Story Ever Told was on Saturday,I taped it.Was excellent

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 13/04/2020 12:08

@SuckingDieselFella
Do you have any evidence of this? Maybe many of us have no interest in them. Viewing figures have influence

SerenDippitty · 13/04/2020 12:08

Yes I can remember when The Greatest Story Ever Told, with Max Von Sydow as Jesus, was always on at Easter. Also the Robert Powell mini series.

mogtheexcellent · 13/04/2020 12:09

I watched the end of one over the weekend. Was on bbc2. And is now on iplayer. 'Greatest story ever told'.

I was born in the early 70s and these films were the big event of the weekend. Nowadays there are so many channels and other technology they barely register an interest. TV companies have to chase viewing figures. So I suspect that has a lot to do with it.

SerenDippitty · 13/04/2020 12:10

I clearly don’t take enough interest in the TV schedules Blush.

Nonnymum · 13/04/2020 12:10

'The Greatest story ever told' which is basically the life of Jesus was on Good Friday and 'The 10 commandments' which was on yesterday. Both classic biblical epics, both on BBC. So I'm not sure what you mean OP and SuckingDieselFella of course Christian films are allowed on TV!

Minesacider · 13/04/2020 12:13

I noticed them on the tv guide at the weekend, Ben Hur, Ten Commandments etc

They're all about 6 hours long, aren't they? Or does it just feel like that?

FleurNancy · 13/04/2020 12:14

I can't get past the example of Elf as a Christmas film with the greatest biblical films of Easter!!

BlythesEyes · 13/04/2020 12:15

Well I've obviously missed them whilst doing the gardening...pffft...darn it Sad

10 Commandments and The Robe were on yesterday. They haven’t gone anywhere. There were also services from churches.

Winniewonka · 13/04/2020 12:16

The Ten Commandments was in Channel 5 yesterday afternoon for four and half hours. The Robe is on BBC 2 this afternoon.

Paddington68 · 13/04/2020 12:16

@suckingdieselfella@ Nonsense.

skippy67 · 13/04/2020 12:16

Which channel was The Robe on please?

Zombiemum1946 · 13/04/2020 12:18

Last I looked they were on BBC2.

SuckingDieselFella · 13/04/2020 12:18

@NoMorePoliticsPlease

It's very simple - just turn on your TV.

They used to be on prime time when I was a child.

Now they show kiddies films instead.

Ponoka7 · 13/04/2020 12:20

You did miss them. There's a freeview online telly guide, i used it to track down when 'hop' was on. It's my Easter version of muppets Christmas carol.

All the Biblical and Bond films have been on. The carry on films and On the buses. Blakey died over the Easter weekend.

SuckingDieselFella · 13/04/2020 12:20

@Paddington68

Thanks for that intelligent and well-reasoned comment. Smile

You must be very young not to remember how often they were shown.

Zombiemum1946 · 13/04/2020 12:21

You can also see them on Amazon prime and Netflix. Not my thing but the new ones were the ones that popped up when I logged on.

Ponoka7 · 13/04/2020 12:21

The robe is on BBC2 at 3pm today.

Ponoka7 · 13/04/2020 12:22

@skippy67, BBC2 at 3pm today.
