I've just returned to MN after a fair absence (needed some advice about something) and see that this is about to become available. I won't be paying, but will you?

OP posts:
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/04/2020 11:15

Ah I see. You don't use the site that much, OP but now you've popped back just in time to comment on the 'Premium' option and are very much relishing the idea of slapping down of the site by some posters who use it FOC day in and day out but think nothing of criticising it. Did I miss anything?

Your thread/posts - to use your own phrase - leave a nasty taste in my mouth and I'm astonished at the crassness but not really surprised and I'm glad that most who've responded so far haven't taken your goady bait. If I felt the way you've posted you do, I wouldn't be on the site but, we're all different.

Pay it, don't pay it.

Witchcraftandhokum · 13/04/2020 13:06

Lying I can assure you I've been here on and off for years I can do the old penis beaker, naice ham shit if you want but we all know it proves nothing. I name change everytime I come back because I was stung in of the data breaches.

And yes I came back for advice, I'm currently supposed to be abroad and wanted some advice from the travel section although I can seem to create a thread there, still trying.

Stating how I feel about something is not being goady and in my mind blindly signing up to something without questioning it's merits is idiotic. In the past sanctimonious posters like you who feel they can police threads is one of reasons why I dip in and out. Which is a shame because you and I have had some quite nice interactions in the past.

And I hope it doesn't happen but in case it does, I would quite categorically state I am not a previously banned poster.

OP posts:
Irial · 13/04/2020 13:16

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe, what do you think the value of the site is? It's the people writing content for the forums, the users they now want to charge.

I started another thread asking what people use the site for, not one person (afaik) has stated they use anything apart from the forums it doesn't require a staff force costing £350,000 every month at all.

penisbeakers · 13/04/2020 13:20

I wonder how long this thread will last (no I won't be paying).

Bezalelle · 13/04/2020 13:22

I might be more willing to pay, if it could be guaranteed that I won't be banned for calling a man spade a man spade on the Feminist board.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/04/2020 13:27

So your post at 0955 wasn't goady then? Inviting criticism. Of a free- of-charge site that you use for advice?

Criticising posters who pay without digging into the financials isn't idiotic, they've already told you why (keeping MN going) and it's none of your business anyway. Calling them idiotic isn't very edifying, is it?

'Sanctimonious' is a lazy term to use for people one doesn't like. I'll take that over hypocrite any day. I don't name-change and I don't change tack depending on who's posted. You do as you like and I'll carry on as I am, thanks.

This wasn't a thread for advice and you obviously wanted replies so, take the rough with the smooth, I'm not going to back-pat you.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 13/04/2020 13:35

I'd also have been happy to make a donation but not to pay £5 a month when I'm not earning anything

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/04/2020 13:38

Irial; does it matter? The value that posters put on being able to use the forum isn't fiscal, it's a free-of-charge board. People post about the 'product' as if it's something of value without any return for them which isn't quite correct. It's a site that's FOC to users and nobody's being forced to contribute.

It smacks of ego to grandstand about a request to subscribe as if it's some sort of invoice levied to users. Those who want to will pay, those who don't, won't and I don't want to start a ruck over it, honestly, that's just how I feel. I've never had a problem with others having a different view either.

Seeitsortit · 13/04/2020 13:39

£5/month to Mumsnet (suggest your look at companies house) or £5/month to your local hospice.

I know where my money is going

Witchcraftandhokum · 13/04/2020 13:47

Lying As I've said no my post wasn't goady. I asked a question. People are answering it and I haven't jumped on anyone who posted a response.

I'm not going to get into an argument with one of the quintessential MN mean girl types who feel the need to decide a posters worth on how much time they spend on here. It's tiresome, unpleasant and puts actual new posters off.

Thank you for your input.

I’m not paying. They could of easily of done these features ages ago but choose not too. They still have plenty of ads on the website too and it’s not exactly like it’s a struggling start up company.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 13/04/2020 14:03

I won't be paying as I cannot justify an extra £5 a month on a subscription service.

I would have contributed to a fundraiser, it is a shame MN decided to go down the subscription route instead.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 13/04/2020 14:04

I’d happily pay a one off donation
Think far more viable go ask for this
MN has saved me a few times

Makeitgoaway · 13/04/2020 14:16

How can a business with extremely high revenues very low core running costs possibly have got into trouble so quickly?

What are the owners taking out of the business and has that changed? Why are there no reserves?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/04/2020 14:26

You don't know me at all, OP. I think every poster has the same 'value' and equal rights to post here. Opposing a viewpoint doesn't equal 'policing' no matter how much you say it.

Your posts speak for themselves, you think that anybody who pays who doesn't 'inspect the books' is an idiot. It's not me doing the name-calling and being 'mean'.

But, I'm happy to leave you to your thread, I've said what I wanted to.

Everyexitisanentrance · 13/04/2020 14:34

Mumsnet need to keep the site active as that is what attracts users which in turn attracts advertisers. The users provide content and helps newspapers with stories which is free advertising for Mumsnet which then attracts users etc etc

I never look outside of the chat rooms and I dare say that is the same for most of us.

Fantasiaa · 13/04/2020 14:59

No won’t be paying.

It’s odd that mumsnet is asking for money while other forums aren’t.

Witchcraftandhokum · 13/04/2020 15:11

Has there been any word of how many 'fewer' ads you'll see, a percentage maybe?

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 13/04/2020 15:19

one of the quintessential MN mean girl types looks a bit like a personal attack to me.

Witchcraftandhokum · 13/04/2020 15:26

ilovesooty It looks as much like a personal attack as calling me a hypocrite but I'm not bothered about it. If you feel it's unjust then please report it and give MNHQ a reason to delete another read raising questions about their motives

OP posts:
Witchcraftandhokum · 13/04/2020 15:27

*another thread.

(you don't give your financial details to MN but a third party)

Which is rated 2.5* out of 5 Poor.

Witchcraftandhokum · 13/04/2020 15:32

Rishi Really, I wasn't aware of that. Poor choice.

OP posts:
Eggcited · 13/04/2020 15:44

you don't give your financial details to MN but a third party

Not entirely true, some of the MN staff will be able to access these details.
