Who else is sick of the teacher bashing threads on here?

I’m not even a school teacher and I’m sick and bored of it.

You do realise that this will turn into another one, don't you?

Iwannabeadored20 · 12/04/2020 20:51

Yep, and I get that no job should be immune from criticism, it is just that when people criticise teachers you can hear another voice that is really saying 'why aren't you doing the bits of parenting I find hard/don't want to do?' coming from them couched in queries or complaints about something else.

Cynicism, on my part, brought on by too many conversations with parents where I have come home afterwards and wept.

Cherrysoup · 12/04/2020 20:52

There are rather a lot, although I just replied to one offering help as the parent does seem genuinely concerned. I think parents need to contact the school-after Easter! I would respond to a direct communication, which is available through most homework setting apps.

We’ve been told to set individual lesson work, so say period 3 Tuesday is a year 7, we set work for that lesson which were then expected to mark and return, all online, of course. Fortunately, we had been trialling a new and very useful system so easily managed to implement it in the week before we closed.

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 20:52

No I just want people to be aware how many there are that’s all.

Do people really have nothing else to talk about?

Mumsnet HQ’s willingness to tolerate the constant stream of anti-teacher spite is actually fucking shameful.

Teacher here. We can’t do anything right 🤷🏻‍♀️

ScorpionQueen · 12/04/2020 21:09

It's horrible, people are so happy to generalise and bitch about teachers. We are fair game to them.

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 21:11

Is there anything MNHQ can do?

MN used to be fun now it’s the same old nasty threads

It’s the way they seem to expect us to be able to throw together a perfect remote learning system in the 2 days’ notice we were given that schools would shut...no recognition that this is incredibly difficult and that most schools will be reviewing over Easter to improve the situation. Or that different schools with different intakes may need different solutions.

cardibach · 12/04/2020 21:14

@FredericcaPotter whinging about what? The only whinging I’ve seen is for parents because they aren’t getting what they think they should without any consideration for what other parents might need.

PinkiOcelot · 12/04/2020 21:14

I’m sick of threads on here being made out to be teacher bashing when the OP has only asked a simple question about schools or teaching. I’ve seen plenty of them.

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 21:15

FredericcaPotter Go away don’t use this thread to post your rants.

Onceuponatimethen · 12/04/2020 21:16

There’s quite a lot of parent bashing in the staff room threads

Have two family members who are teachers and I still think it’s fair enough for parents to ask questions about provision

Oakmaiden · 12/04/2020 21:16

Yes, but this is just going to be a magnet for people to come and explain how they aren't bashing teachers, but really they should just STFU and work right through the year and not expect to get paid, because Nurses and shop assistants have to go to work too.

Oakmaiden · 12/04/2020 21:18

It is often not the OP, though. Lots of times threads start innocuously enough, but then dissolve into "but I don't get 12 weeks off work, so why should you?"

Devlesko · 12/04/2020 21:23

I am too, and have just sent Thanks to all the teachers doing wonderful job.
My dd isn't in a state school, but seeing the face of a neighbour, teacher, was enough for me.
She hasn't seen her kids in a month, they're staying with gp's, she's ashen, looks scared to death and is a shadow of her former self.
I'd get her a present but will have to wait until I can go out.
I don't know how anyone can for shame bash teachers. Those who aren't wfh will be having to prepare for future years.

ilovesooty · 12/04/2020 21:25

The resident teacher bashers on here don't need any encouragement to put the boot in. It's tiresome.

YgritteSnow · 12/04/2020 21:28

Teachers are not above criticism. Personally I am sick of aggressive, petulant responses from teachers where they label perfectly reasonable concerns as "teacher bashing".

Snowboarder45 · 12/04/2020 21:29

Maybe those that insult teachers and the profession are jealous, jealous of the vocation that it takes, the satisfaction that it must bring to actually teach a new skill, the range of highly tuned skills many teachers possess and of course the perceived working hours, terms and conditions of service and holidays. I am in awe of teachers even more since I became one at home over the last few weeks. I believe there is a recruitment crisis in some areas. I couldn't do it but maybe some of those that bash the profession should consider a career change if they think they could do better.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 12/04/2020 21:30

See this thread started yesterday op.

LucyLastik · 12/04/2020 21:30

Unfortunately, most of the "concerns" are not reasonable. Just needs an email to their school. Not all teachers are working to the same constraints.

Frompcat · 12/04/2020 21:32

I have seen more threads complaining about teacher bashing than I have seen actual teacher bashing

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 21:32

ChicChicChicChiclana I didn’t notice that thread but I agree with the op.
