I’m not even a school teacher and I’m sick and bored of it.

It is the monotony of the teacher bashing threads amongst others that will be the end of Mumsnet - people will get bored. It is why parking threads are so popular

PrivateD00r

I am not aware of any other keyworkers who get to choose whether they go to work, yet remain on full pay.

I am not aware of any teachers that are doing either.

Teachers are volunteering to come in to schools on their days off when they are not being paid.

At my school their where so many of us that names for the holidays were selected randomly.

But don't let that stop you from generalising.

I think you just have to ignore it and realise like in most areas of life you can't please everyone all the time.

I sat down with my 2 DCs before Easter and helped them with all the work they were set by their teachers who did a brilliant job of getting stuff together in a short space of time. DD1 is at high school and got a fairly prompt response from most teachers to any questions. DD2 at primary got her work "liked" almost instantaneously. They were working off very different platforms and at 13 my DD1 understands the difference between a primary school teacher having 1 class opposed to a secondary teacher who has goodness how many students.

Some of DD1s friends mums could believe I'd made her do the work- they were just chilling in the garden. I found it useful as it gave us a structure to the day but they did make me feel like I was being "that" mum. We actually enjoyed doing it together- it didn't take long. DS2 is a bit of a workaholic so loved having something to do and getting a response from his teacher.

My Dsis lives 40 miles away her DCs got nothing and she was pissed off.

DH brother is pissed his DDs school has set too much and they're pissed off.

@ChloeDecker
*It’s interesting that a lot of posters on this thread (and the other teacher basher thread in The Staffroom) arguing for the teacher threads being absolutely fine, are ones who have actually started unreasonable teacher threads in the first place..."

It was me who started that staffroom one. It was me who asked MN for the teacher bashing threads to stop and you are absolutely right, it turned out the opposite. Hundreds of arguments appeared.

MN replied to me that they didn't patrol the boards and that they wouldn't do anything. So now I'm hiding the TB threads, as that's all I can do.

Mistressiggi · 13/04/2020 19:01

@pinkrocker For a moment I thought there was a special TB section I could hide! Wouldn't that be wonderful.
I'll ask in site stuff I think Smile

I've taught in three countries now and have come to regard teacher bashing as a British pastime.

We've all been to school so we all know how to teach, apparently. Johnny's a little shit in class? Teacher's fault. Johnny hasn't turned in homework three weeks running. Teacher's fault. Johnny's had an argument with Jenny, Sandra and Jamil? Teacher's fault.

Teachers take responsibility but it seems in the UK they take it all, leaving leaders, society, government and parents innocent. It is a profession that is constantly pissed on from a great height by people from all walks of life and I will never understand why this happens.

In other countries, teachers are trusted to know what's best for your kids in the field of education sometimes. Not here.

I drove a car two weeks ago. I'm off to set up my own garage.

Rant over.

luckylavender · 13/04/2020 19:51

So fed up. So much teacher bashing. Always. I'm not a teacher by the way.

Mittens030869 · 13/04/2020 19:58

@luckylavender I agree. We don't see any lawyer or engineer bashing threads, do we? Or medic bashing threads. (Although no one would dare right now anyway.)

I wouldn't be a teacher now. There was a time when it was a respected profession. Sad

CleanUpWoman · 13/04/2020 20:15

Children (in England) have missed literally just 5% of their academic year so far.
Everyone needs to chill the fuck out.

MsTSwift · 13/04/2020 20:16

Everyone hates lawyers!

Bestbe · 13/04/2020 20:19

It seems to be part of the job. I rarely tell people I meet I’m a teacher. But I’m proud of what I do and couldn’t care less what people say. I know they couldn’t do the job and I know what I do most days makes a difference.

FrippEnos · 13/04/2020 20:41

MsTSwift

Everybody hates Chris as well.

Mittens030869 · 13/04/2020 20:41

@MsTSwift I agree that a lot of people hate lawyers but I've yet to see a thread about it on AIBU, unlike with teachers. It's strange how bashing teachers is a national pastime, it's very sad, I think. Sad
